Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·

Otherwise, you're just skipping it.

By the way, how did you calculate that 500 grams of whey lasts exactly 8 days?

According to my math, one week comes out to 325 grams. If someone works out three times a week, they take two scoops after training and one scoop in the morning with their oatmeal; on the off days, they just have one scoop in the morning. That’s 13 scoops over 7 days. Since one scoop is 25 grams, you multiply them and get 325.

What’s the verdict on Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey?

If it says WHEY in the title, don't get played.

I’ve been reading through those fitness forums, and the general consensus seems to be that you absolutely have to slam some whey right after a workout. We talked about this here before—how protein supplements aren't strictly mandatory. Some guy on one of those boards swears by these extreme brands; apparently, a 500g tub costs about $47. That would barely last me eight days, and I don't have money to burn. Is post-workout whey actually an absolute requirement, or is all that stuff we discussed earlier still valid?

Look, I haven't read the whole thread, but here’s the short version. Once you're done lifting, hitting some fast-digesting protein is basically standard practice because that's what drives muscle recovery and growth. That said, you can get your protein from steak, tuna, eggs, and so on. However, whey protein paired with glucose is hard to beat; nothing else quite hits that exact mark perfectly.

I’m sure you guys have heard this a thousand times already, and please, spare me the "check five pages back" comments. I’m too lazy to dig through old threads, so if anyone actually wants to be helpful, jump in...
I need to pack on about 20 pounds of muscle. What kind of protein supplements should I be using? Where can I find them? 🙂
