Quint, chill out. Fumio's starting up again, go vent somewhere else.
That’s why I stick with rim brakes. You can't even grab them hard enough to fly over the handlebars. 😁
Discs just pull you forward when you slam on them anyway.
If you nail 62 miles in 2.5 hours, I'm buying the beers 🙂

A smoker could argue the same thing:

How much does a decent bike cost $2640!
I'd rather smoke a pack a day and chill at home without breaking a sweat.

To each their own.

Mileage tracking in Cycling ·

Am I missing something here? 🤷

I keep a log just like this because I run a bike computer and my phone at the same time.
Phones fail. Sometimes I forget to hit record or the battery dies mid-ride. This way I stay in control and actually enjoy tracking my stats.
Yeah, great advice right there.
I snagged a bag like this on eBay for about $33. It fits my pants, a shirt, phone, wallet, plus some pens and a lunch.

From my experience, I can tell you 25 miles/h is doable.

I bike from a small town near Columbus to Washington, D.C.; it’s about 12 miles miles. My rides take around an hour. I stay between 19 and 12 miles/h so I don't end up sweating like a pig.
The first 4 miles are on a main road—total hyper-vigilance there, eyes and ears wide open. Then I have a 2-1.9 miles stretch through the city on a decent bike path. You still need caution, but it's easier. The biggest headache is the idiots stopping at bakeries and then swerving back into traffic like maniacs. After V. Gorica, I have 3.7 miles which is partly on a trail and partly through a rural area. That’s the least stressful part. Once I pass the marshalling yard, I hit Washington, D.C., and head down Sarajevo to Most Mladost. Again, senses at 100%; people are either blind or pretending to be. I won't say I follow every single rule to the letter, but I ride so I don't kill myself or anyone else. I don't run red lights unless I see no cars for at least 200m. When it's foggy, I wear a reflective vest and my rear light is on the second the sun goes down. Front light is optional depending on visibility.

Exhaustion was my main issue early on. It takes time for the body to adjust; 25 miles miles a day isn't massive, but it's work. At the start of the year, I could only manage 3 days a week. Now, I'm out 4-5 days a week for the commute. With basic gear, I'll ride in temperatures as low as -2°F if there's no black ice.
Gear matters less than good lights and a vest—you need drivers to spot you from at least 100m away. If a car is coming at 70-50 miles/h and they only see you 30-40m away, they have maybe 2 seconds to react. Besides lights, a helmet isn't optional; falling off a bike that's barely moving is enough to rattle your brain. Get puncture-resistant tires from a reputable brand. A lock and a reliable bike. My advice? Get a mid-range bike, maybe even lower, and keep it well-maintained. It won't attract thieves like an expensive model would.

Try this: one weekend, wake up early two days in a row and bike to work. See how your head handles the early starts, how much time you actually need, and if you have the discipline for a routine. It was hard for me at first. Even now, on freezing mornings, I ask myself, "Why the hell am I doing this?" Eventually, it becomes a lifestyle. You actually start missing it when it rains and you're stuck in a car or a bus. Not to mention, you feel better before and after work.

I work starting at 8:00, so I leave on my bike at 6:30. I roll up to the office around 7:35, then spend those 25 minutes swapping my cycling gear for my "work clothes."
PC turns on by itself in Hardware ·
If anyone’s dealing with this or runs into it, I fixed the issue by disabling "Fast boot" in Windows 10.

Basically, for some reason, because of that Fast boot setting, Windows 10 kept claiming my PC didn't shut down properly, even though I was hitting shut down like everyone else.
The damn thing would just turn itself back on after I shut it down, hit the boot screen, and then I'd have to turn it off again. Then, when I tried a normal startup, it would complain about an improper shutdown, run checkdisk, and just make my life miserable.

If you're getting screwed over by the same thing, just try turning off Fast boot.
PC turns on by itself in Hardware ·
Hey,

I don't post here much, so hope you don't mind me jumping in like this.

My PC has been acting up for the last two weeks. I was running Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked perfectly for a week, then suddenly the computer started turning itself on. I thought maybe I was just hitting restart instead of shutdown by mistake—you know, those tiny new buttons in Windows 10 and all that.

Then one day, when I booted up, I saw a checkdisk running on the C drive followed by a repair. The repair would hit 88% and then crash, forcing a reboot, which just triggered the checkdisk and repair loop all over again. My C drive is a 120 GB Samsung 840 SSD with only 2.7TB of data written to it.
I decided to test the SSD. I took it to a friend's place, and whenever they plugged it in, the computer wouldn't even boot. Back home, I installed Windows on a different drive, accessed the SSD, and tried running checkdisk to fix it. No luck. Windows reported a corrupted MFT and said it was unfixable. Eventually, I formatted the SSD and checked the S.M.A.R.T. data; everything looks fine, at 98% health.
I reinstalled Windows on the SSD, and it worked great for about 4 hours before the issues returned. If I shut down the PC, it actually shuts off, but then 5-10 seconds later it turns itself back on, hits the Windows logo, and shuts down again.
If I boot Windows from a standard hard drive, it runs checkdisk on the SSD and then boots normally. I have zero issues during boot or shutdown in that scenario.

Now I'm stuck in limbo.
Some people say the memory controller on the SSD is dying.
Others claim my power supply is shot.
I have no idea what to believe. It feels stupid to send an SSD in for warranty if the issue is this weird. I want to be certain before I take any next steps.

Specs: i5 4570S, 16GB RAM, Gigabyte board with H87 chipset, Samsung SSD, and two WD drives—a 750GB Black and a 2000GB Green. GPU is a Sapphire R7750. Power supply is a 550W Chieftec. Voltages in the BIOS look fine.

Thanks for the help.
Go ahead and trash the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival all you want, but if they didn't exist, I wouldn't have seen Kraftwerk, Moby, Franz Ferdinand, Alice in Chains, Morcheeba, New Order, or Gogol Bordello...
The real question is when these bands will actually decide to hit our neck of the woods on their own.
boldranger12 said:My take on the New Order show: They’ve lost most of that raw Joy Division energy, but they still prove they have plenty of reasons to keep fans happy after all these years.

Shout out to the people who didn't try to scam me for my ticket—you guys made my night. 😁

The start was pretty weak, but things finally kicked into high gear after they played Blue Monday. :hopla:

My only gripe? The arrangement of Isolation. They totally killed the best part of that track—that heavy, grinding guitar work.
New York City +1
And The Rapture, they're touring all over Europe
