Hey, could someone take a look at these results and give me their two cents? I’ve got an appointment scheduled with my orthopedist in two weeks—but honestly, I'd rather not sit around waiting that long if I can help it.

So, here’s the situation—for the last six months to a year, I've been dealing with intense hip pain. In my opinion, it's all stemming from an old injury from back when I was stretching—my hip basically "popped" out of place—which was at least five years ago, maybe even longer. Up until this point, I didn't have any major issues with my hips, aside from occasionally noticing that I couldn't quite execute certain movements smoothly during my stretching routines and stuff.

I’m getting pain on both sides of my pelvis—sometimes it lingers all day, other times it only hits at night. I haven't been able to pin down any specific pattern or trigger for when it flares up. To make matters worse, it feels like things are steadily getting worse—I'm even starting to get this strange, "cold" sensation running down the front of my thighs.
EDIT: I forgot to mention—the pain becomes absolutely unbearable whenever I’m dealing with anything more intense, like a bad flu or running a high fever.

Here is my X-ray report:

I'm thinking I’ll probably go with the R9 280 and that Scythe cooler up top. It just seems like the best bang for my buck.

On a related note—since we're already talking about this stuff—what would you say my current rig is worth in USD?

Thanks, everyone.

Personally, I’d rather his GPU just hold out for another 4 or 5 years like it has been—IMO.

EDIT:

Ah... okay, so we're looking at an R9 280 and that cooler from the link.

There isn't really a "budget" set in stone—I'm just weighing what makes the most sense and then deciding how much to drop. But I'm assuming I won't need a massive pile of cash to bring this rig up to a decent modern standard without having to buy an entirely new PC. Still, if people are saying overclocking is a solid move, then fine by me.

That’s just way too much money for me. Look, my priority is strictly price-to-performance ratio—I'm not interested in overpaying for fluff. I don't think I could shell out more than 2 $0.00 total.

Seasonic, yeah... there's some 🙂

As for the CPU, I'm stuck with just the stock cooler for now. I've been weighing the idea of overclocking and picking up a new GPU first—then maybe a new CPU down the line—as that seems like the smartest move. I was looking at coolers in the roughly $100 range, though maybe I could get away with something cheaper if I push the OC hard enough.

Also, will my power supply actually handle an OC combined with an R9?

When I built this rig five years ago, I specifically designed it so I could squeeze more performance out of it later. Since I haven't touched the overclocking settings yet—and temps have been fine—I assume everything is still in good shape. I've avoided overclocking because, frankly, I don't want to risk frying the chip. But, if it makes more sense than selling the whole thing off, it’s definitely on the table.

EDIT: Most of what I do on this machine is gaming, yeah. Though, I'm not the type to insist on running every single new release at max settings. I'd much rather have solid price-to-performance than pay a premium for overpriced components.

Hey,

I need a reality check on what this desktop rig is worth. Picked it up from Micro Center back in July 2010. Since then, I've added two extra case fans:

MOTHERBOARD: ASRock X58 Extreme
CPU: Intel Core i7-920
GPU: HD Radeon 5870
RAM: 3X2GB Corsair DDR3 SDRAM
PSU: Seagate 600W
CASE: Cooler Master CM 690
HDD: WD 1TB

I'm planning to run Windows 7 SP1 on it.

I'm looking at buying a brand-new desktop, so I want to know if it makes sense to sell this whole setup as one unit—or if I should just swap out a few parts. Though, honestly, it looks like if I upgrade the GPU, I’ll probably be forced to replace the CPU too.
