You’re going to spend quite a bit of time tinkering with the template creation—honestly, it's a bit of a process! I’d suggest grabbing some thicker cardstock, or maybe just layering a few sheets together to give it some real substance.

Do you happen to know where to find them—I’m actually looking to grab a few myself!

Maybe try tracking down some rubber—or perhaps a denser sponge material, kind of like polyurethane foam image—and use that to wrap it. That’s how I usually dampen my speakers... though, if I'm being honest, the one downside is that it might run a little hotter than usual.

I’m starting to think it might be better for me to just build my own case—that way, I can design it exactly how I want it.
I know this isn't strictly the right place for this kind of thing, but I was wondering if anyone could weigh in on value: is it better to go with a Venomus X (around $200) or stick with a liquid setup using a single 3cm thick triple radiator (which is essentially what I'm running now around $333)?
My current case is just too cramped to fit any "proper" air coolers, since anything larger than 15cm won't even squeeze in there.😁

darkowl72—thanks if you were talking to me! 😁
I’ll admit, I spent way too much time overthinking this thing—to the point where I almost threw in the towel—so I just decided to let it sit for a while—plus, I haven't had much free time lately. Honestly, the biggest letdown was when I finally finished the build exactly like the photo, flipped the switch, and... nothing. No display. 😁 So, I actually considered just selling the whole thing off.
Once the holidays roll around, I'm planning on starting another PC Modding project—I want to build the entire case from scratch (well, except for the motherboard tray area). I'm still debating materials, though—the frame will be made of square tubing about 1/2 inch thick, but I can't decide whether to use sheet metal or MDF (you know, that engineered wood stuff 😁). If anyone has any suggestions or maybe a third option, I'm all ears! Personally, I'm leaning toward 1/8 inch sheet metal because it’s easier for me to work with and I can easily paint it.

True, but that was all in the past—take a look at the final page (the third one)

Bryan Wood49! I'm not quite sure what you mean—are you asking about the specific case brand or something else?
I honestly can't remember the exact brand of that old one...

briskbison41—well, at least it provides cold water!😁
Here is the link where you can check out the full project; I'll be posting photos of the new setup very soon, as soon as I get this circuit board fixed up.
Personally, I'm really happy with the case—it looks significantly better now than when I first picked it up!

I have to admit, I did a pretty subpar job painting the front end—I completely skipped the sanding process and didn't even bother applying a primer.
Since there’s a grille over the front bumper, you can't really see the imperfections.
driftingmarlin70, what makes you think it's because of the paint job?
Here is how it looks at the moment:

I wanted to post a "before" photo as well, but my computer is acting up—so I had to borrow my brother's rig just to get this online.
Please excuse the low image quality; my hands were shaking just a little bit while taking these.

Hey, Mike! Try putting that hard drive in some "underwear" 🤣—basically, just hang it using one of those stretchy rubber bands. It’ll help dampen the vibrations, and honestly, it makes things way quieter. That’s exactly what I did with my Western Digital Black drive, and now it's practically silent 😁

I’d really suggest using a primer first—it helps the color bond much better so you don't end up with peeling issues. I tried spraying mine without any primer, just straight matte black and white, and I've already noticed some slight flaking in a few spots...
Here’s a shot of my bin: Just a few days after painting it

Fast forward about 5 or 6 months

The edges are starting to peel off a bit, and if you tighten a screw just a little too much, the plastic actually starts to crack slightly...

Zachary Wilson30, seriously, props to you—that build looks absolutely incredible!🙂
I went ahead and gave my own "junk pile" a fresh coat of paint—and, uh, I might have drilled a few extra holes for cable management... oops! Here’s the shot:
James Morris4, if I could offer a little tip—maybe don't drill such massive holes in one spot? It might be better to just make small, specific openings exactly where you need them—like for the 24-pin connector, for instance.

If you can't see the quote properly, please just let me know—I'll be more than happy to snap another photo for you!
Regarding the power supply, I'm planning on picking up this one link

Hey everyone!
I’m currently running an Intel Pentium D 915 (2.8 GHz), and I’ve managed to push the overclock up to about 3.9 or 4.0 GHz—hitting maybe slightly higher at 1.5V😢—but I honestly can't figure out what's holding me back... I've been bumping up the voltage and the speed just for the CPU, but should I be looking at adjusting the voltage on the chipset instead?
At 4.0 GHz, things stay relatively stable enough for me to get some gaming in
Has anyone else here managed to squeeze more performance out of this specific processor?

My current setup
CPU: Intel Pentium D 915 2.8 GHz @ 3.9 GHz - TtSonic tower rev2
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS (256 MB)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
RAM: 2 GB total (1GB Kingmax (600MHz) + 512MB Kingmax (500MHz) + 512MB Transcend (500MHz))
PSU: Codegen 400W (Could this be part of the problem?)

So, over the summer I finally tackled my second PC Modding project—I’m a little late getting the photos posted, though... 😁 😉
The old junker
Raw finish
With the paint job
Paint and lacquer work (this mid tower actually belongs to a buddy of mine!)
Stripping the thermal paste off the GPU
Oh, and here's the breakdown: 1

I'm not quite sure if these images are too huge—if they are, just let me know!

I'll be posting a much more detailed write-up over on PC Gamer in a few weeks!

Well folks, summer has finally arrived and the temperatures are starting to climb... seriously...
Once school wraps up soon, I’m diving into another PC Modding project—I’m planning to pick up a new case (though that might include some fresh components if I can scrape enough cash together)
The game plan is to install a transparent side panel, swap out the CPU cooler, grab a few extra fans, and maybe snag some decals from Best Buy. I’ll be sure to post photos once everything is finished!
And who knows, maybe I'll even get an AC unit installed so I can actually cool myself down—right now, I'm just trying to survive the heat with a massive 250mm fan pointed directly at me, haha
LET'S GO PEOPLE! WAKE UP! It's been almost a month since the last post!!!

Alright
PC Modding in Desktops ·
redmason, what kind of case are you running there?
Did you actually customize that Razer setup yourself, or...?

I used a grinder to trim down some 2mm sheet metal—it turned out pretty decent! Though, I have to admit, you definitely need to follow up with a hand file afterward if you want everything to look polished and smooth
PC Modding in Desktops ·
I’ve also got this red 120mm Ventic fan and some neon lights—so, yeah, the whole setup is basically glowing
Anyway, I’m using the Ventic as an intake fan right by the processor—and man, it actually works! My temps used to hover around 42°C, but now they’re sitting at about 30°C while I'm gaming
PC Modding in Desktops ·
Man, I have to admit—it actually looks way better this way, haha!
I'm only 14—so, let's just say I can't really judge which version was superior without causing a total meltdown if I told my folks what I actually thought...
But honestly? The main thing is that it's finally here.
