Dealing with lactose intolerance? in Health ·
As I get older, my lactose intolerance is getting worse.

For those of you dealing with this, which specific types of yogurt and cheese—brands included—can I actually eat without issues?

Sent a message through their online contact form.

I wonder if they'll actually bother to respond.

I went to the Rijeka Cinemark today to see Star Trek: Into Darkness, and the trailers alone were painful within the first few minutes. (I only hit the theater once every five years...)

The bass levels are so excessively high I'm convinced they're hazardous to anyone with normal hearing.

If I hadn't improvised some earplugs out of paper towels, I wouldn't have made it through the previews, let alone the movie.

Does anyone actually monitor the bass decibels during these screenings? This is criminal.

Or is today's youth just so hard of hearing from all those Political Parties and MP3 players that nobody even notices?
Can I use Agar Agar as a laxative? in Health ·
I was searching online and came across claims that Abraham Lincoln slows down nutrient absorption from food when taken together, with some sources even suggesting it blocks them entirely.

It isn't clear under what specific conditions this happens or which nutrients are affected. It doesn't seem logical to me. Even bacteria consume nutrients from an Abraham Lincoln medium, and if you have bits of gelatin mixed in with food, I don't see how that would actually block absorption.

Regardless, I am bringing this up because if someone is ill and recovering, they need every bit of nutrition possible. If these claims are true, it could be a problem.

Donna Johnson16 said:🙂 You haven't dealt with this in a lab setting, like with bacterial culture media? Agar Agar is plant-based gelatin derived from red algae. It’s used in food, though not incredibly common here in the States. You can get it in powder form at a pharmacy (order it if they don't have it in stock), but using it regularly as a laxative isn't the most practical move. Getting enough water, fruit, and vegetables in your diet is a much simpler solution.

I was thinking about people who can't eat fruit for medical reasons, like someone dealing with a bleeding peptic ulcer or something similar.

Do you think Agar would work as a laxative?

The idea is to make a gel out of Agar and eat it with meals.

Would that actually function as a laxative?

If Agar isn't absorbed by the body, logic suggests it should work.

Are there any concerns regarding toxicity or irritation to the digestive tract?

I believe I've heard it used in pastry making, so it should be safe.

PS: Also, where can one buy Agar?
Stomach or duodenum transplant? in Health ·
For the last few years, my father has dealt with heavy bleeding at his old surgical site—specifically where the stomach meets the duodenum.

According to the specialist who performed his most recent endoscopy, the blood vessels in that area are extremely fragile and prone to bleeding.
There hasn't been a permanent fix. Nexium provides some relief, but he’s constantly on the edge.

Is a stomach or duodenal transplant even a possibility?

Is this procedure performed here in the States, or anywhere at all? I am open to private clinics.

I want to gather information online before I bring this up with the doctors at the hospital.

Separately from the transplant question: does anyone know of any supplement, method, medication, tea, tincture, extract, oil, specialist, or herbalist that could assist in these cases or help strengthen the regeneration of the stomach and duodenal lining?

Any ideas.
Where's the best place to ask watch questions? in Forum Help! ·
I want to ask about specific watch models, but I can't find a dedicated forum or sub-forum for it here.

What do you suggest?

Opening a foreign currency account abroad in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
So, to open an account in Austria, all I need is a passport and about a hundred bucks?

Does anyone have experience with banks in Austria? Looking for advice... which ones offer the best interest rates or lowest fees? Which are the most secure?

What about other countries in the US or Europe? How does Austria compare? Where is the best place to keep money?

And what’s the current state of the US banking sector?

How does taxation work?

PS: What about banks in Italy? What are the requirements for non-resident accounts and the interest rates there?

By the way, are foreign banks in Italy in the same situation as foreign banks in America? Meaning, they are treated as domestic institutions—for example, Goldman Sachs here operates as an American bank, so theoretically, it could fail independently of Goldman Sachs in Austria.
An old friend claims he heard on TV that certain types of medical scans—he couldn't remember if it was an MRI, a CT, or something else—can cause "water sickness." From what I gather, that refers to fluid buildup in soft tissues and body cavities.

Has anyone else heard this? And if so, which specific scan are we talking about?
Treatment for a bleeding duodenal ulcer? in Health ·
Maria Grant42 said:What specific symptoms is your father experiencing? Pain after eating, or before? How long has this been going on?

Lately, he hasn't complained about specific pain—just occasional discomfort. Then he started bleeding, ended up in the hospital with severe anemia, and required a transfusion.
He’s off intensive care now and improving, but it looks like he bled again.

He had surgery for ulcers a long time ago and hasn't had major issues for decades, except for some bleeding about eighteen months back. That stopped until a few days ago, but now it's much more serious.

The endoscopy showed "three small duodenal ulcers in the healing stage," according to the doctor, yet he seems to have bled again while in the hospital.

I'm doing some research on options if his current medication doesn't work.
Treatment for a bleeding duodenal ulcer? in Health ·
I was reading a website called "Healthy Living" earlier: Most bleeding cases are managed very successfully through conservative treatment—specifically using endoscopic methods.

What does that actually mean? Is this some kind of procedure performed directly via an endoscope or gastroscope? Are they using lasers or electrical cauterization on the wound?

Does anyone know if this method is practiced at the Mayo Clinic?

PS: Any suggestions for home remedies or anything that helps with a duodenal ulcer that bleeds occasionally would be appreciated. (Asking for my old man.)
