Well, look what I just stumbled upon...

Sending this laptop in for repairs this weekend...😁

Bryan Nguyen90 said:No way there isn't an XP driver if there's one for Vista. You should just shoot an email to Dell support—they'll definitely hook you up. Worst case scenario, if there really isn't an official driver for XP, some tech geek definitely whipped one up in their garage.
And don't bother asking HG Spot for help—that place is total garbage.🙂

I actually just searched right now, and Google isn't showing anything useful. Do you know of any site—something like laptopvideo2go.com (but specifically for graphics drivers)?

stormytiger57 said:Total bummer. Two more things I need to know—there are two versions of that Dell Inspiron 7520 out there with different graphics cards: an Nvidia GeForce 7000 m 128 and an Nvidia GeForce 8400GS with 256 MB. Which one’s actually better, say, for gaming???

The 8400GS is definitely the winner between those two. Just don't expect to crank up the settings—for newer games, you're looking at maybe 800x600 (or maybe 1024x768 if you're lucky) on medium settings. My laptop has an 8600GT, so I can run Company of Heroes at 1280x800, but even then I have to drop the details pretty low.

stormytiger57 said:Hey everyone. Got a question that's bugging me—hope you guys can help me out here:
Basically, I'm looking at picking up a Dell Inspiron. Saw one in the shop and it's got a Windows Vista sticker on it, plus all the drivers are listed for Vista. I really want to run Windows XP instead, so I'm wondering if those Vista drivers will actually work on XP since they only provide them for Vista.😕 😕
Thanks😉

Hey. Or, uh, good evening.😁

I've got a Dell Inspiron myself and didn't get any driver CDs—plus, on the Dell site, they only list drivers for Vista. Before I pulled the trigger, I emailed some guy over at HG Spot support asking if it was possible to run XP—like, could I buy the laptop with Windows XP pre-installed, or maybe just get it without an OS so I can do my own thing? He told me he has the exact same laptop and even tried swapping out the HDD, but he couldn't get XP to install. So now I'm stuck thinking—is he just telling me it only sells with Vista (which sounds suspicious, like maybe he tells everyone that regardless of what they ask), or is he actually telling the truth?
The easiest workaround? Just grab a machine that actually has that beta installed—run it off a thumb drive or whatever—and use the Save as option to export everything as a .doc or even an .rtf. That way you can actually save your work and then just open and edit it normally in Microsoft Office 2003.

Good luck!

Check THIS out—it’s just a demo for Neuralink.

But, like R. Flag pointed out, these programs are still riddled with bugs. Computers aren't even close to matching the processing power of an American translator's brain yet.

Anyway, take a look at the attachment to see how Neuralink tries to translate this English tech text into American.🤣

Hardware = iron🤣 🤣

Ugh, I'm running into trouble too. Only this time it's with Windows XP.

I had a disc for Windows XP + SP2. Everything was working perfectly—it would boot up automatically and all that good stuff. That is, until I—being an absolute idiot—lent it to my buddy without making a backup, and he lent it to someone else. Anyway, when I finally got the disc back, the damn thing was covered in scratches.

So, I tried manually copying folder after folder onto my hard drive. Somehow I managed to grab everything except for some random file for Chinese language support. I figured, whatever, I don't need that anyway, so I burned it all onto a new disc. But now, when I pop it in, the boot—and I mean the actual startup boot, not just Autorun in Windows—doesn't work at all.

Did the boot sector or whatever you call it get wiped out during the process?

Thanks, redheron12.

I used to have Amazon installed ages ago, but back then I didn't need it—just like most of the stuff I actually need nowadays. 🙂

So, is there anything out there I can just download from the web?

Anyone know of anything similar?

Doesn't even have to be 3D—2D is fine—as long as it works offline.

I messed around with Google Maps, but it’s way too bloated for me, plus I'm stuck on this ancient 56k modem so loading stuff is a total nightmare. All I really need is something that maps out the major world rivers, mountains, countries, capitals, and that kind of stuff.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Maybe this has come up on the forum before, but my search tool is acting up—no matter what I type in, I just get "Sorry - no matches..." over and over.
