wiredrider9 said:Maybe it's because people have partners who don't work Sundays at all—so while they're off, they end up spending that time alone instead of with their significant other. Or maybe their partner works the opposite shift, so they barely see each other anyway. Even if they both have Sundays off, sometimes you can't even get one full day together with the whole family, etc., etc.

So why not just ban opposite shifts then?

Oh, right. I forgot. Unlike the sanctity of Sunday, opposite shifts aren't considered sacred.

wiredrider9 said:So, are you working retail?

Why does that matter?
Do you think because I spend my days repairing tillers, I don't have a family?
Am I somehow less worthy, such that the Church... or the government, shouldn't want to ban Sunday labor?

bluebison47 said:A worker's right includes daily, weekly, or annual time off... this whole spinning the concept of "rights" into "laziness" is just a massive, convoluted mess.

But I suppose you're just trolling for the sake of trolling at this point, so... whatever.

The right to rest? Absolutely. But why does it have to be Sunday?
Why shouldn't I be allowed to work on a Sunday if that's what I want to do?

I suppose one must give credit where it is due; if it weren't for your tireless contributions as the backbone of the workforce, the global economy might be at least fifty percent weaker as it is.

Nobody is actually offended by the idea of having a free Sunday.
I, for one, am offended by the notion of banning work on Sundays.

Me, sick?
I wouldn't call myself that. I'm not the one putting my faith in some bearded old man sitting on a cloud, watching everyone get off.

restlesssurfer97 said:Labor rights are basically the bedrock of any actual socialist movement, so how does that even make sense right now?
The whole idea of workers having a guaranteed day off every week is pretty much set in stone.

No.
Labor rights mean the right to be paid fairly for your work, not the right to avoid working altogether.

bluebison47 said:I find this whole obsession with mentioning "the Sabbath" a bit much... I don't know, maybe it's just me. It feels unnecessary to act like everyone avoids working on Sundays because of religious sanctity or needing to hit a church service. There are plenty of people who just want a Sunday off simply because it's *the* day off. You know, it’s just not the same thing. Having a Tuesday off versus having a Sunday off? They aren't even in the same universe.

And don't even get me started on those comparisons to essential services like EMTs or police officers...🙏

Personally, I couldn't care less if it's Sunday or a Wednesday.
So why bring up the "holy" aspect?
Because the clergy started this initiative, and they happen to be the loudest voices in the room.
The union hacks just latched onto the movement; I wouldn't bet against the idea that the Vatican provided them with funding or some other form of incentive to fall in line.

restlesssurfer97 said:But wait a second, even the socialists are pushing this exact same thing, like the socialists and the clergy have basically teamed up and slid right into this whole debate. 😂

Where on earth are you seeing these socialists?

A true socialist would advocate for more—specifically, more fairly compensated—work, not for banning work altogether.
I certainly don't see anyone like that here in America.

restlesssurfer97 said:Just pure spite, honestly.

Well, it’s certainly worth making them regret it.

Cowardly politicians are just using this global crisis as a smokescreen to push their own agendas through.

They’d be the first ones out there protesting if Sunday work bans were actually enforced; they'd probably find a way to squeeze in all that extra labor on a Saturday instead.

wiredrider9 said:Oh yeah, and don't forget—Sundays are usually the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to revenue. Total washout compared to the rest of the week.

So, if that's the case, why on earth would they work on a Sunday?
Working on a Sunday isn't mandatory.
Why bother doing it if there’s no profit in it?

The researchers behind this study crunched the numbers on nearly 5,700 people hospitalized between March 1st and April 4th. They focused specifically on the 2,634 cases where folks either passed away or were discharged. Out of those, 320 patients were hooked up to ventilators—and get this—88.1% of them didn't make it. For the seniors over 65 on life support, the mortality rate hit a staggering 97.2%, according to the study. Meanwhile, for patients in that same age bracket who weren't on a ventilator, the death rate was "only" 26.6%.

So, how many people actually died on ventilators in the US? But hey, don't hold your breath waiting for an answer—total radio silence on that one.

That data point is completely meaningless without knowing exactly why those patients were put on ventilators in the first place.

wiredrider9 said:Seriously, has anyone actually asked the people working here if they even want to work on Sundays? Like, is anyone forcing you? Pretty sure the shop owners aren't exactly clocking in on a Sunday themselves.😉

It’s as if my boss actually cares whether I’m putting in work on a Sunday. As if. Does he really give a damn?
He tells me, "Look, if you've got an excavator sitting there, go ahead and fix it yourself. If you don't want to? Well, there's plenty of other people out there who will."

By the way, I used to know a few shop owners who were willing to work on Sundays. They ended up hitting rock bottom after they were hit with that last ban on Sunday operations, and now they won't even show up on the other days of the week. What's left after that?

wiredrider9 said:Honestly, Sunday work should probably be scrapped entirely—but hey, why are they cooking up this nonsense now? Who knows. It’s all just one giant improvisation at this point. Those working the standard Mon-Fri grind aren't pulling 8 AM to 9 PM shifts (well, most of them aren't, anyway), so I don't see any issue with this.

I think maybe in Austria they’ve had Sunday bans for like a hundred years or something... or maybe I just read that somewhere.

Am I allowed to repair excavators on a Sunday?
I am.
So why is retail being prevented from operating on a Sunday?

wiredrider9 said:So what's the fallout? In Germany, they've been doing this for like a hundred years already.

In Germany, even crooked crises are banned. Is that really what you want?

I honestly hope they opt for the German tests; they’re the gold standard. When a German lab handles the diagnostics, the results actually make sense.

Funny how the mainstream media isn't even touching this story.

pssssssttt

"David against Goliath," according to the narrator.
But who exactly is David here, and who is Goliath?

I am beyond tired of this constant playing the victim by the Catholic Church. And by Catholics.

And kale.

There was this interview recently with some guy about how Domino's Pizza was supposed to expand here, but obviously everything stalled because of the pandemic. They were supposedly planning to head to the US for some kind of training...

Oh, and

The best fast food I've ever had was probably Taco Bell.

Quite the gourmet, aren't you?

I wouldn't touch that even if I were starving.
