I was watching a documentary last night about some legendary athletes from the 90s, and it got me thinking about how much our entire culture—especially in sports—has shifted toward this obsession with "potential" rather than actual, proven production. We spend so much time talking about who is going to be a superstar in three years, or which young player is about to "make the leap," that I feel like we’ve lost the ability to appreciate the grind of the present moment.

It’s become this weird ritual, hasn't it? Every single offseason or preseason, the narrative is always the same: "This is the year this specific player takes over the league." We treat these young guys like they’re already finished products, or like their entire career trajectory is a foregone conclusion based on a few flashes of brilliance in training camp or a single standout game. It’s like we’re placing these massive, heavy bets on people who haven't even had a full season of adversity under their belts yet.

I remember back in my college days, I played some recreational ball, and there was always this one guy who was a total phenom. Everyone talked about him like he was destined for the pros. The pressure on him was suffocating. The coaches kept giving him more responsibility, expecting him to carry the whole squad because of what he *could* do, rather than what he *was* doing. In the end, the weight of everyone's expectations just crushed him. He never found his rhythm because he was too busy trying to live up to the myth we had created around him.

It makes me wonder if we do this to players too often. We take a young talent, especially in high-impact positions where one mistake can change a game, and we basically hand them the keys to the franchise. We say, "We trust you, now go prove us right." But that’s a terrifying amount of pressure to put on someone's shoulders. It’s not just about skill; it’s about the mental fortitude to handle the fact that if you don't "leap" exactly when the pundits say you should, you're suddenly labeled a "bust."

And honestly, it’s not just a sports thing. You see it in tech, in politics, even in corporate ladder-climbing. We are obsessed with the "prodigy" narrative. We love the idea of the underdog who suddenly becomes a titan. It makes for great television and even better headlines, but I think it creates this incredibly volatile environment for the individuals involved. We're essentially building entire strategies around a "what if" scenario.

What happens when a team or an organization builds its identity around a single young player's projected growth, and that growth is incremental rather than explosive? We see it all the time—teams that are "one player away" from greatness, only to find out that greatness takes much longer to cultivate than a single season or a single leap. It feels like we're constantly looking for the shortcut to dominance through individual brilliance, rather than valuing the slow, boring process of building depth and consistency.

I'm starting to feel a bit skeptical of the "leap" narrative. It feels more like a marketing tool to keep fans engaged during the off-season than a realistic assessment of how talent develops. Development isn't a vertical line; it's a jagged, messy scribble. You have setbacks, you have plateau periods, and you have moments where you look like you've regressed entirely.

Do you guys think we overhype the "breakout" potential of young players? Is it fair to tie the success of an entire unit to the development of a single person, or are we just setting these athletes up for a massive psychological fall?
Norton update ERROR in Software ·
I heard there’s some kind of patch out there that resets the trial period, basically letting you run it indefinitely. I think it’s called Marafix or something along those lines.

P.S.: If you actually decide to shell out for a license, just go with Kaspersky. It works better for me, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thinks so.
Best way to boost video volume (up to 20x)? in Software ·
Everything works fine when I test other videos. But the second I play this specific one and crank the volume to the max, I can barely hear a thing.

Because of that, I need a program that can actually boost the audio levels in this file.

I'm running Windows 7
Monitor Issues in Computer Peripherals ·
I finally nailed down the actual issue. It’s a hardware failure—specifically a faulty connector on the GPU. The shop where I picked up the rig gave me a DVI adapter to patch it together, and it's running fine for now.

I’m planning to get this graphics card repaired while it's still under warranty.
Monitor Issues in Computer Peripherals ·
I formatted the drive, but nothing changed. The monitor shows better colors in blue and yellow. I also went ahead and installed all the drivers—audio, network, and graphics. And just to set the record straight, it wasn't an .ini file, it was an .inf file. I ran it by right-clicking and selecting Install, but that didn't fix anything either.

That proves the issue is definitely with the monitor!!!
Monitor Issues in Computer Peripherals ·
Ever since I booted up my PC, everything has been stuck in 16-color mode. There’s absolutely no way for me to switch it back.

Here are my display properties:

And here’s Device Manager:

I figured it might be a driver issue, so I went hunting for a driver for my ancient monitor (an old Dell MicroScan 5P+).

I tracked down this driver: http://driverscollection.com/?H=Micr...205P%2B&By=ADI

When I download the zip—which is barely 2 KB—all I get is an .ini file. When I try to run it, it just opens in Notepad.

My graphics card is running the latest drivers.

I can't find the original driver CD (if one even existed).

I've tried restarting the computer several times already.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this a hardware failure with the monitor, or is it something else?
2. Is the driver I found actually legitimate?
3. Would buying a new monitor even solve this?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!
