I feel like every single week there's a new headline about some teenager halfway across the world who is supposedly the "next big thing." It’s become such a cycle. One day it's a kid in South America, the next it's a teenager in a local academy, and suddenly every massive club in Europe is supposedly in a bidding war for them.
I remember back in the day, you actually had to watch the games to realize someone was special. Now, it feels like the scouts and the media have turned talent spotting into a high-stakes stock market. Half the time, these kids are just incredibly physically gifted for their age, but we treat them like they've already won five Ballon d'Ors.
Don't get me wrong, there are definitely generational talents out there, but I can't help but wonder how many of these "sure bets" end up being massive busts once they actually face grown men in a professional league. It's hard to tell the difference between actual greatness and just being a very fast kid with a lot of hype.
Does anyone else feel like the constant obsession with teenage prodigies is actually hurting the sport, or am I just being cynical?
