I’m thinking about picking up this processor along with this motherboard—what do you guys think? Thanks!

So, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered something. I went with this CPU, but since that specific motherboard wasn't available, I ended up grabbing a Dell Prime B450 instead. Honestly, within a day and a half of overthinking where to shop and what to get, that Asrock board just vanished from five different stores I checked. It was like it disappeared into thin air. Anyway, everyone kept pushing the Dell Prime on me, and some people even claimed it was slightly better.

Did I make the right call switching to that motherboard?
Alexander Moore67 said:The CPU doesn't have integrated graphics, so you're definitely going to need a dedicated GPU...

I actually already have a graphics card—got all my gear ready—it’s just that I’m picking up these three specific parts right now, and my old GPU should be able to hang on for a little while longer for what I need to do. That's really why I was asking if this power supply would be enough to handle things.
Nah, I’m not really looking to dive into that either—I was just thinking, once I finally get the motherboard, processor, and RAM all installed, it should probably hold up for a while, right?
urbanheron4 said:Just whatever you do, don't grab some bottom-of-the-barrel power supply. It’s not just about the raw wattage—you really want to look at those 80+ certifications, like Bronze or Gold... honestly, that matters way more than just seeing a huge number on the box. And if you can, check out some actual reviews to see how they hold up under load. I'm not sure which GPU you're aiming for, but you probably won't need a massive amount of juice; a solid 500W unit should do the trick if it's actually decent quality.
I actually picked one of these up recently, but unfortunately, it's out of stock right now—it says it's coming back soon. So, maybe keep an eye out; if it pops up again, I think it's a pretty sweet deal for $133.

Do you think what I've got running right now will be enough for the time being?

Yeah, it's DDR3—I actually already picked up the RAM, so now I just need to find a processor and a motherboard. Then, down the road, I'll probably look into a GPU, assuming the rumors about prices dropping actually turn out to be true.
Alexander Moore67 said:It'll cover the motherboard and the CPU, sure—but once you start adding high-end, modern parts along with a solid graphics card... well, pairing them with a budget power supply just doesn't make much sense.....

Yeah, yeah, I hear you loud and clear. Thanks for the heads-up.
Ps. I had one more quick question—if I end up grabbing this motherboard and processor combo, do you think my current 600W Platinum power supply will cut it, or am I going to have to shell out for a beefier unit?

Andrew Fox74 said:well, yeah, it's still an Intel Core i5-12400 😁

If you aren't feeling super confident about this stuff, you might want to run it by someone who is—it’s way too easy to accidentally grab parts that just don't play nice together...

Look, I wouldn't call myself an expert—that's definitely a stretch—but I'm not a total amateur either, so I wouldn't just blindly pick up parts that don't fit. It was just a bit confusing because the specs mentioned above were slightly different—like, 36mb and 4.2hz—while the one below listed 32mb and didn't even mention the clock speed, so I figured they weren't the same thing. 🤦

But it’s actually not quite what the guy above mentioned.

And if there's any wiggle room in the budget, maybe grab a motherboard that isn't super cheap... just so it at least has some decent VRM heatsinks.

Same thing over at Newegg

1 * Intel Core i5 6C/12T 12400 (3.5/4.4GHz Boost, 20MB, 65W, LGA 1700) Box

Probably best to wait until after New Year's to swap out the GPU

Hey, I was actually looking into getting a processor like this one, but I can't seem to find it anywhere lately!? 🤷

I guess you could call it the perfect sweet spot to kick off my journey. ☕

I can't really see what you're trying to show me there—it looks like a blank quote box or maybe just a technical glitch on my end. If you were trying to share something specific, could you try posting it again? I’d love to weigh in once I can actually read it!

I honestly thought the Man of Steel would be pulling for the Steelers—it just seemed like the logical move, you know?🤔

Look, I'll be honest—it’s just one of those situations where it feels impossible to pull off, regardless of who you've got on the roster. 😉

Hey everyone. I’m the new guy on the block—just wondering if there's still room for me to jump into the action, or if I've already missed the boat?
