Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
fastred said:Does anyone happen to know how I can get rid of this "Windows Old" folder that’s just sitting there after I reinstalled Windows 7? I kind of messed things up while trying to run a backup, so I ended up doing a full reinstall, but now this folder is stuck on my C: drive and I can't seem to delete it no matter what I try.

If you right-click on your C: drive, go into Properties, and then select Disk Cleanup, you should be able to find what you need.

Once that window opens, look for the option labeled Previous Windows Installations—that should do the trick for you.
It was honestly never really about the software itself, but more about the hardware you're running if you're actually aiming for those high-end studio recordings.

If you have the right gear, then something like Adobe Audition or Steinberg Wavelab will be more than enough to get the job done.

But what if they ended up with a disc like mine, one that actually says "Windows 7 Ready" right on the label?

Jerry Flores74 said:So, I was just wondering if things like games, movies, and other general software tend to run smoothly? Do you happen to know of any specific programs that people use all the time that might struggle or fail to work? That's really all I'm looking for. Thanks!

Honestly, about 90% of the stuff people call "popular" runs perfectly fine on 64-bit Windows.

And for those rare cases where something doesn't quite click, there’s almost always an alternative out there that does the job just as well.

Jerry Flores74 said:I think the rig is plenty powerful enough to handle a 64-bit setup. But, a buddy of mine mentioned that when he tried running Windows XP 64-bit, he ran into a wall trying to install the framework, and without that, you can't really get into gaming or even run half of your usual apps. Is it actually worth switching to 64-bit if you just want to watch movies, play games, and do all the same stuff you'd do on a 32-bit system?🤷

Honestly, I think your buddy might be overcomplicating things because😬 on 64-bit Windows, the only real issues come from some incredibly ancient software; most 32-bit games and applications run perfectly fine—I'd say at least 95% of them work without a hitch.

EDIT: I've personally cycled through a massive amount of different games and software lately... and so far, I haven't stumbled upon anything that wouldn't work on a 64-bit OS.

EDIT 2: There is an x64 version of the .NET Framework available specifically for 64-bit Windows, so I'm honestly not quite sure why your friend had such a hard time getting it installed.
Should I just pop in the Office CD and get the installation started?

A 64-bit processor 😁

That’s exactly it.

I used to rely on it quite a bit alongside VLC, but honestly, I just don't find myself needing to reach for it anymore.👍

I just can't seem to find that one perfect player that actually handles every single file type I throw at it without making a fuss.

I noticed my graphics score actually jumped up by about 0.1 after I installed those latest drivers 👍

I actually had a 7000 series myself, so I ended up sitting at a 5.9 because my hard drive just drags everything down with its low score.

dustybear9 said:I ran a benchmark on my rig and it gave me a 5.1, which makes me wonder if that's actually decent or just kind of mediocre... I mean, considering what I dropped on this machine, shouldn't it be hitting a perfect ten? haha

Honestly, just drop about $150 or $200 on a solid SSD and you might see that score jump up past a 7.☕

Well, I'm not entirely sure myself, though I have a feeling he actually lays it all out right there in his post, doesn't he? Everything else aside... ☕

What kind of benefits would I really see from moving up to the seventh iteration?

In terms of how it looks, you won't notice much of a difference, but you'll definitely feel a bit more speed and overall stability when you're actually getting things done.

Douglas Garcia52 said:I tried getting Call of Duty 4 to run, but I just couldn't make it happen, even though it works perfectly fine on the 32-bit version.

As for me, I've been playing this exact same game for a whole week now on Windows 7 64-bit, and honestly, I haven't run into a single hiccup or issue.

well, you could always just use Ableton Live, or honestly, pretty much anything else along those lines.

You might want to try booting up from a Windows CD
and then, once you're in that repair console, you should find that chkdsk is available for you to run.

As for me, I'm using 4.35.6.0091 on Windows 7 64-bit and honestly, everything runs just as smoothly without any issues at all.
