Laptop is acting up in IT Support ·
I guess that’s really my absolute last resort, looking at grabbing a "new" motherboard, though honestly, things aren't freezing up quite often enough right now for me to be convinced that's actually the culprit. 🤷

As far as the SMART data goes, everything is looking green.

EDIT: I just went ahead and checked it with CrystalDiskInfo, and honestly, there isn't even a single warning, let alone any actual errors. 🤷

EDIT 2: This laptop doesn't actually belong to me, so tomorrow morning I think I'll put together a bootable USB drive with Memtest86+ just so I can run some tests on the RAM.

Hey everyone. I’ve got a bit of a situation brewing with my Dell Inspiron.

So, over the last few months, I’ve been running into this issue where macOS just completely freezes up on me, leaving the laptop totally unresponsive unless I force a shutdown using the power button. It usually starts with whatever audio or video I'm watching starting to stutter and glitch out, and then—boom—everything just grinds to a halt.

I’ve already tried running 32-bit versions of Windows 7, though I'm currently on the 64-bit version of Windows 7. I’ve run scans with various antivirus programs and malware scanners, too. I even went as far as repartitioning the drive and testing out several different sets of drivers for all the hardware, but when I check the Event Viewer, nothing stands out as suspicious. I actually took the whole thing apart to blow out the dust, cleaning the fan and the heatsinks, though the temperature readings didn't seem to indicate any overheating issues at all. I also gave the RAM a once-over—as much as you can really do visually—cleaning the contacts and clearing out any dust. The weird thing is, the problem persists whether I'm running on battery or plugged in, and it happens even with a clean install of Windows without any extra apps running.

I’m honestly running out of things to try, unless I reach out to a buddy of mine who has the exact same model and swap our RAM sticks just to rule that out once and for all. I have a nagging suspicion it might be a hardware defect, but I really don't want to drop a fortune on professional diagnostics for something I feel like I should be able to figure out myself, so I was hoping some of you experts with more experience might have a clue.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions you might have! 🙂

I’ve got an Apple laptop, specifically the model NP270E5V-K03HS
and I can't get the wireless to kick in—I'm starting to think it's because my function keys are totally dead on me.
Can anyone point me toward a direct download link for the drivers for this thing?
I've been scouring the Apple site, but I can't find this specific model anywhere, and honestly, I have no clue which drivers I actually need... I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.
I already tried downloading the chipset and WLAN drivers, but nope—nothing works.
What am I supposed to do here?
The laptop came with a driver CD, but it's all for Windows 8, so that's useless to me.

Here you go, 🙂 http://www.samsung.com/in/support/mo...01IN-downloads

He’s actually pretty great in Fast Five, especially when he’s just tearing things up and throwing hands 😁

It’s actually pretty interesting because this whole issue seems to pop up even on perfectly legitimate, properly installed versions of Windows.

And then, as soon as you head over to the System Properties, everything just settles back down to normal, showing that the OS is fully licensed and activated without any issues at all.

Weird.

I wonder if he might be referring to one of those RC-ov versions.

Benjamin King2 said:Maybe give this one a shot, since the tagger can tap into the freedb, MusicBrainz, and CDDB servers, which might help you pull down exactly what you're looking for.

Yeah, you can search the entire database just by typing in the artist and the track title, but honestly, the whole thing feels a bit over-engineered and clunky to actually use, doesn't it? 😂

Jason Richardson5 said:So, if I’m following his train of thought correctly, is he essentially trying to figure out which specific album a track belongs to just by knowing the song title? Is he looking for that link between the song and its parent album?

If that really is the case, then you can actually find exactly where a song fits quite easily right here http://www.last.fm/search?q=&type=track and once you have that info, you just pull the album name into some kind of tagging software and call it a day, right?

That all sounds like a perfectly fine plan, I suppose, assuming you aren't sitting there staring down a mountain of several hundred—or maybe even thousands—of tracks that would require manual sorting.

Yeah, but he’s missing the actual album titles for a few of these tracks.

And honestly, I’m just not sure if there’s any specific software out there that can actually fix that for you :/

Robert White46 said:First off, Mp3tag actually handles things pretty well. Right now, I’ve just got this massive pile of tracks where the filenames follow a pattern like this:

Artist - Album - Song Title

In most instances, I don't have the album info or the album art attached, so how can I go about pulling those in automatically? I've tried messing around with freedb and Amazon, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around getting it to work.

Well, why don't you just have the program extract the album name from the filename, save it directly into the tags, and then let it grab the album art from the web?
Just ditch the old Soviet anthems and let's find some peace instead.

Go ahead and swap out those sounds, then just save them down as a brand-new preset.
analogskipper742 said:Unfortunately, it doesn't. Everything else seems to be working just fine, but for some reason, it just won't cooperate within F&R. If you've managed to get it working on your end, or if you happen to know a trick to getting it tuned right, please let me know.

Maybe try clicking through that extra options menu first and then give it another shot?
Aren't they already up and running? If you hit CTRL+B, for example, shouldn't you see something like "Format: Bold" popping up right underneath the search field?

The thing is, you probably need to open PowerShell because you aren't quite sure how to navigate it, rather than it being any issue with me... I think—and honestly, I’m not alone in thinking this—that you might be a bit out of your depth here. But hey, if you really feel like you know what you're talking about, why don't you enlighten us? It would be great if we could all finally wrap our heads around your logic.
PS.
I am still sitting here waiting for you to produce that virus of yours.🙂🙂 Now, I'm not saying it's impossible for such a thing to exist, but rather that YOU can't actually find it, mostly because you claimed you managed to crack the email password only by freezing up the entire OS.!!!!

Personally, I'd love to see that JPG file just to see what Norton has to say about it. Because, from what I understand, neither it nor any other standard antivirus software typically reacts to those kinds of registry-based viruses. 😂

a then you go off on this tangent asking if CS3 can embed files directly into an image, and once you finally wrap your head around how to scan an image with an antivirus, you'll probably be running around in circles looking for answers.

And honestly, what's the big deal if someone embeds a file in an image? Any decent antivirus will catch the malicious code the second it tries to execute and shut the whole thing down before any damage is done.

But hey, don't mind me—you guys are all elite Facebook hackers, so I'm sure you've got everything completely under control. 😂

quietcanyon2 said:...my dear Windows enthusiast Benjamin King2,

...whether we're talking about being current or performing an update, what you're really touching upon is that broad, somewhat ambiguous sense of the word—a term that, if we're being honest, really just traces its roots back to those pesky Anglo-Saxon linguistic imports like "updating," which essentially means bringing something, whether it be matter or a specific phenomenon, into its current, standard state,

...which is basically what your brain perceives when you reduce all this complexity down to the rather banal and vulgar level of everyday usage: just the common tech slang for having an "updated" operating system.

I think we might have wandered off into the Linguistics subforum 😂😂😂

👍

You want to completely isolate the vocals from the backing track?

Not going to happen.
