Buying a laptop in Germany in Laptops ·
I am currently in the US looking for a laptop primarily intended for Microsoft Office, web browsing, and watching YouTube or Netflix.
My budget is roughly $550.
Ideally, I would like the machine to have a 256GB SSD.
Beyond that, I am unsure whether it is more beneficial to prioritize higher RAM capacity over a better processor, or vice versa. Additionally, I am wondering if an energy-efficient "U" series processor will be sufficient for my needs. I don't have any specific requirements regarding screen size.
I am also debating whether it makes sense to increase my budget to $650, as there is currently a sale on this model:

which appears to feature quite solid components
(Intel Core i5-8250U Processor, 8 GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 620, 256GB SSD).
Most other options I have found within the $550 range seem to rely on either some mobile AMD's processors, which I am unfamiliar with, or an Intel Pentium.
If anyone is willing to assist, I would truly appreciate your help in making a selection.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.🙂
I really appreciate the detailed response.
I appreciate the quick and thorough response.
Could you clarify one thing for me? Does this laptop have a dedicated M.2 slot available for an upgrade, or would I need to swap out the existing drive currently installed inside?
Hello, I am looking for a new laptop because my current machine is no longer meeting my requirements. My main priority is finding a device that can run AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and similar software smoothly without any lag. From what I have gathered during my research, a fast SSD and a capable graphics card will be essential.🤔

0. Where do you intend to purchase from?
I don't have a strong preference, though I would ideally like to buy from a retailer in Miami or Washington, D.C.

1. What screen size are you looking for?
15.6 inches

2. Resolution
Full HD

3. Reflective or matte screen?
Either is fine.

4. What will you be using the laptop for?
I will be doing programming work in Matlab and Python, but the primary driver for this purchase is ensuring smooth performance when running AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and related engineering applications. Reliability under these specific workloads is my top priority.

5. Do you need Windows included?
No, I have access to it for free through my university.

6. Do you have any favorite brands or any you wish to avoid?
My preferred brands are Dell, HP, Apple, and Lenovo.

7. What is your planned budget?
$4,000 or more$2500

8. How important is the warranty?
The longer the better.
