They didn't give me any updates at my checkup—hopefully someone here knows more.. 😁 anyway, how long after surgery can I actually go diving or just hit the beach normally.. 😁
It’s been a little over a month since the procedure and the last stitch finally came out today.. swelling is basically gone.. 😁 well, it looks invisible to me, but the doctor insists they're still there 🙂
Hey everyone.. 😁 how long did it take for your sutures to fall out? 🙂 I’m already at day 22 or 23 since my surgery and they’re still in there.. :S They smell pretty bad and are getting annoying.. I just want to finally clean my nose properly.. 🙂 Both are stuck in my right nasal passage...
I’ve got a broken bone and had surgery on my cartilage..
I only wear them when absolutely necessary.. 🙂
It’s honestly irritating that they didn't give me any actual precautions after the procedure.. :S all I got was "try not to bump into anything"—as if I haven't figured out how to navigate a room on my own.. :/

I’m already wearing mine—it’s only been about 20 days. 🙂
Hannah Baker23 said:Don't sweat it—I’m dealing with the exact same thing in my left nostril. My Conan stitch is halfway out, and all this gunk has gathered around it, hardening into a mass that just won't budge. The only way I can deal with the new buildup is using a saline spray and Q-tips. Honestly, you might just have to wait until it falls out on its own; the wound isn't truly healed until the body rejects the stitch holding it together. Until then, you're stuck dealing with the smell, the tightness, and picking at the crustiness. 😁
Hannah Baker23, I figured out a fix last night 🙂)
Basically, that buildup around the Conan stitch was driving me crazy. Then I remembered—instead of just using cold saline in the syringe, I used warm water instead. Not scalding, obviously, just warm. It turned everything around the stitch into a liquid state, allowing me to clean it all out completely. 😁 Give it a shot. 😉
Hey there.. 😁 It’s day 16 post-op for me. I still have two Conan sutures left in my nose—my doctor actually pulled one out during my check-up, and honestly, it hurt so much I told him to just leave the remaining two alone.. anyway, I was wondering how long it took for yours to fall out..?
The sutures aren't the issue so much as the fact that my nose is partially blocked. I can't really clear it because everything is getting tangled up around the thread (sorry if that's a bit gross) .. could they potentially fall out because of all that buildup? There isn't a massive amount, but there's definitely stuff caught around the suture.. ://
On a side note—I don't have any swelling under my eyes at all. Just some lingering swelling in my nose, but overall, I'm extremely happy with the results.. 😁
I spent that entire morning cramming for an exam scheduled in two weeks 🙂—I had absolutely no idea I was heading into surgery 😁
I told you everything would turn out fine... 😉 I'm honestly glad to hear it.. 😁 As for the swelling, expect that to subside in about ten days or so—just take it easy and enjoy the new look 😁
I basically exploited the situation and held onto a young assistant's hand—claiming I was "just nervous"—to play it cool. xD
Just relax... get some sleep tonight and try to settle down. I thought I’d hesitate too, but I just jumped up and ran straight to the mirror. 😁 Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. 😉
Oh, and one more thing—don't bother wiping your nose with toilet paper. Wet wipes are much better... at least for me. 🙂 I use the Pampers Sensitive ones. 😁
Sarah White79 said:I took my cast off this morning—not feeling nearly as satisfied as you seem to be. I knew there’d be swelling, but this is ridiculous; I don't even recognize myself. My face is a total mess. So, quick question: how long did they say it would take before I actually look human again? And what was the deal with "cleaning" the nose? They told me to leave it alone mostly—just a light wipe here and there—but I have to go out, head to campus, go to work... I can't exactly walk around with stuff leaking out of my nose (gross crusting). Plus, there are stitches inside, so I'm terrified to touch anything and mess up the thread. It's pretty intimidating, so if you were given any tips on cleaning things up so I can function in public, let me know.😢
I was actually thrilled when I saw the results. There's just some lingering redness where the bump used to be—apparently, they had to break a bit of bone there to fix the alignment.😁
They said a realistic assessment isn't possible for another month. For now, they just gave me these plasters to wear for a week—they claimed it doesn't actually do much for the healing, just helps with the psychological aspect of feeling secure.🙂
As for cleaning, they told me to use saline solution (you get a half-liter bottle and usually a syringe, or you can buy them separately at a pharmacy; it shouldn't be expensive). I just use Q-tips to clean whatever is visible.🙂
When I need to clean the inside a bit more thoroughly, I just roll up a standard wet wipe and gently dab.🙂 I guess I got lucky—zero crusting on my end.🙂
Cast is finally off this morning... I am THRILLED! 😁
I haven't had any pain—just some very mild swelling. My face and nose are still a bit puffy, so I can't say I see the final result 100% just yet, but honestly? If it stays looking like this, I'll be more than happy. 😁
Highly recommend dr. Pegan.. 😁
And oh yeah... breathing is at 110% now. 😁
goldencobra92 said:you look amazing! man, I’ve got these massive purple dark circles under my eyes—looks terrible compared to you 😢. I noticed they applied patches to both your upper and lower eyelids at first; they didn't do that for me. Maybe that's why my bruising just kept spreading indefinitely
.
The doctor mentioned those patches were specifically for that purpose... the first night was a bit awkward because they were tugging at my skin, but they took them off by noon the very next day.. 🙂
I hope you have a speedy recovery 🙂.
I don't know... my cast looks like a normal size to me, but I guess that doesn't mean much to anyone else. 😉
I was supposed to have my tampons removed today, too—but since my doctor wasn't in, they told me it would have to wait until tomorrow. 🙂 If you want, I can send over a photo of what mine looks like right now. 🙂
restlesspuma15 said:Someone brought up that tapping sensation in the nose—I get that too, here and there.
I’m actually heading in to get this cast removed later this week, so I'll just run it by the doctor.
Same thing happening with me... 🙂 the doc told me it was normal. I'm getting my cast off in two days.🙂
I’m getting them pulled out on Monday too.. 🙂
Tomorrow they’re letting me out of the hospital just to grab lunch at home—apparently because it’s Easter—but I’ll be heading right back to the facility by evening.. 🙂 Honestly, it’s probably for the best. I have no idea how I’d sleep at home; I’m a stomach sleeper, and since they have my bed propped up here, I can't roll over without risking messing something up in my nose 🙂
Just checking in with a quick update.. 🙂
It’s day four post-op (surgery was Wednesday).. I feel great.. there's some minor bruising under my eyes, nothing major.. one tiny capillary burst during the procedure, which is the only noticeable thing right now, but it'll fade eventually.. My appetite has somehow skyrocketed—I'm basically eating whatever is within arm's reach. 🙂
Breathing through my mouth isn't an issue since I'm used to it 🙂 though learning how to actually breathe through my nose is going to be the real challenge. 😁
There was some discomfort in my nose earlier, but even that has subsided today. 🙂
Can't wait until Wednesday when they take the cast off so I can finally see the results. 🙂
Hey everyone, 🙂 I’ve been lurking here for a while, so I figured it was finally time to share my own experience. 🙂
Basically—I had surgery yesterday in St. Louis. It was performed by Dr. Boris Pegan, who traveled in from Chicago. We sat down before the procedure so I could walk him through exactly what I wanted, and he took some photos for the records.
The schedule went smoothly: went in at 11:00, woke up in my hospital bed around 1:15. The anesthesia was a nightmare, though—I spent most of yesterday dealing with nausea. Today, however, I feel great. No pain, really—just a tiny bit of sensitivity at the tip of my nose, which is negligible. My IV fluids were kept to a minimum. 🙂
Anyway, just wanted to give you all an update on how it went. 🙂
