The art of doing absolutely nothing in Off-topic ·
I’m about 20 hours short on my PTO, but whatever—they already know I work myself to the bone. I didn't bother logging everything during those parent-teacher conferences ☕ besides, their whole documentation system is a total joke anyway. ☕

Finally 🥱 wrapped up all my job paperwork, so now I can just coast until autumn 🥱

Jacob Thompson3 said:Yeah, nice. But that sounds more like a day trip to me. You’re supposed to actually prepare for this stuff.
My backyard is right on the way from work to my house.
But hey, your mountains are your own. Respect.

Prepare? Please. We always have blankets in the trunk, we either make sandwiches at home or grab something on the road, sometimes we just pack leftovers from dinner. Just brew a thermos of coffee, hop in the car, and we’re there in twenty minutes. 🙂

Jacob Thompson3 said:I spent today nursing my wounds (literally, using a grinder). Now I'm buying a beer and heading to my own little sanctuary (Big S).
A tiny church, 200 years old, surrounded by an old cemetery. There's a well just outside the graveyard.
It’s a tradition of mine—show up with a beer and sit by that well in peace. Pines, cypress, linden, chestnut trees everywhere. It smells like the Mediterranean Coast.
But the silence...! God, the silence is heavy. You don't hear a single human sound. Nothing! Only when I crack open a beer. Birds, crickets, cicadas... just the wind.
Do you guys have a spot like that? A "Special" (Big S) place? Do you bring anything to drink or snack on while you're there? What?

Ero and I have one too, out here in the hills. Woods, a creek, rocks, and absolutely nobody around. Just us and the local wildlife. We pack some food, a thermos of coffee, and an empty bottle, because the water in the creek is so clear and cold it's pure bliss. 🥳
We usually end up staying all day. 🙂

The commander is a star, by the way. The colonel is a dog. 🤣

Oops 🙂 I thought you were talking about the dog 😵 Nope, we just wandered down some new side streets, checked out a few new corners, but he ended up bringing me right back home 🥳>

It finally cooled down where I am; I had my denim jacket on with a raincoat over it, just letting Yellow lead the way through the streets. I was actually curious to see where she'd take me. 🙏 😍

Write a real laid-backness haiku.🙂

The roof was carrying it; mine wasn't particularly interesting😳

then you've got a well-insulated roof👍 🙂

I've been feeling just as lazy yesterday as I am today😳

I'd probably just cook him for a yellow card. 🐔 I could probably find enough food to last me a solid week. 🐔

I wasn't laughing at all back then.🤷 Ero tossed a piece of wood into the water, and about 50 yards off to our left, there was this swan with her cygnets. He didn't even throw it toward them, and the babies weren't even close to being a threat. Then, out of nowhere, a massive swan takes off from the opposite bank—maybe 200 yards away—and dives straight at the wood. Luckily, Buddy swims fast; he snagged that piece of wood and made it to the shore in a flash. Ero actually jumped into the water to scare the bird off, and this idiot Buddy tries to "protect" him. I had to grab Buddy by his collar to pull him back, while Ero finally managed to scare the swan off by waving his arms around. 😳Fine, we survived that, but there were so many people around that some self-righteous guy decided to lecture us loudly in front of everyone. 🤦

Besides, if Buddy had been in deep water when that swan caught him, there would have been no saving him. A dog like that doesn't stand a chance. Those birds just beat their wings against the animal until it drowns. ☕

If a swan had messed with my husband two years ago, she would’ve snapped his neck, dragged him home, and turned him into a roast dinner. ☕ Swans aren't nearly as innocent as people think; who knows, maybe they were just defending their territory from a stray dog. ☕

If it doesn't last, it wasn't actually love. 🐔

And those so-called "short flames"? They're just trash. 🤷

Once a fool tosses a stone into a well, you could get a hundred geniuses to try, and none of them will ever get it back. 🙂

While the intellectuals are busy debating theory, the idiots are already storming the castle. 🙂

Honestly, stupidity is just a natural talent. 🥳

Fine by me. 👍 A little bit of USDA regulation would probably calm him down. 🥳

Ethan Barrett22 said:Mostly yes. But then again, not always.

Examples:
They're going to be pissed.
Mary’s going to whip up some hot dogs for her husband. :lamb feast:

The word "se" isn't an infinitive; it’s just a reflexive pronoun.
"Svom" is just a reflexive-possessive pronoun in the dative case.

The infinitive follows "to," though it doesn't necessarily have to come right after it.

Ali The issue is that people constantly write "protect" or "to protect" when they actually mean "to be protecting" or "to provide protection." It's a constant grammatical mess..

Thanks. 🙂

Why the eye roll?
That’s exactly what I was getting at.

And then he went on to list a few examples where that just isn't the case. 😛
It could easily go on for more than three words, especially given that second example I mentioned.
Or maybe after 26. When people have already completely forgotten how to use "will," there's really no logic left in insisting that the infinitive is mandatory. He's coming up behind her...: D
...blabla...
🙂 I didn't write "immediately after," I just wrote "after." ☕

And after "will," you definitely don't follow up with a present tense verb. 😳
Chris Myers said:For a second there, I thought this thread was just going to be a massive PDF on linguistics. Honestly, made me want to jump in and moderate this mess. :D

I really thought one of the mods would finally step up and fix that headline. ☕

Alright, maybe I should just write:

And here I was, foolishly hoping one of the mods would finally step up and fix that headline. 🐔

Fine, I'm giving up. 😵

Can someone from the mod team please fix the thread title? 😳 As far as I know, you're supposed to use the infinitive after "will," right? 🤔

Don't get mad at me—grammar mistakes literally give me an itch. 🙂
