Vlašić vs Kostelić in Other Sports ·
Ryan Vaughn7 said:Never since Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

You’re missing the point here. In track and field, you can mix sprints, long jump, and triple jump. You can pair long jump with shot put or hammer throw, or combine different types of middle and long-distance runs. The only guy who really pulled off the feat of dominating both the 1500 and the 5000—which is why he's one of the greatest ever—was that runner Spahn back in the 80s. Look, I'm not exactly out here defending Blanka, who isn't even in the same league as Jackie, but let's just stick to the actual facts.

Joško Vlašić isn't just some coach standing behind Blanka Vlašić; we operate as a tandem, and I honestly can't wrap my head around why he hasn't mentioned Marinović even once. Instead, he just keeps talking about himself.
Post-op pain management: Any advice? in Health ·
So, I had shoulder arthroscopy surgery yesterday morning, and they’re already sending me home today. The instructions they gave me for managing the pain are basically this: for the first 3-4 days, take Percocet 4x2 tablets, OxyContin 10 mg 2x1 tablets, and Ibuprofen 600 mg 3x1 tablet, then just as needed after that. Does that actually mean I’m supposed to be popping 13 pills a day for the first four days? Because honestly, that sounds like a massive overkill to me. Thanks in advance.

Morgan Rodriguez57 said:The Chapman case is pretty straightforward. Trying to tie his motives back to Christianity is a massive stretch, even if you don't know the guy... he did it out of pure hatred, and the end result was an incitement to violence... you religious mods just refuse to acknowledge that specific part...

Ever considered the fact that there are crazies in every Christian congregation out there? He might have just been some lunatic who imagined he was killing Lennon in the name of Christ or to spread the faith (and I’m only saying this because of that post you linked—honestly, I don't care what his deal was). Every religion, every movement, every ideology has its fanatics and psychos. If someone looks at the fact that the crazy Chapman guy was Christian, and his girlfriend was too, and concludes he killed Lennon for those reasons, that doesn't say anything about other Christians, and nobody should be taking it personally.

Since when is calling things out considered harassment or hate speech??
wanderinghawk17 said:If Fak stops competing, here’s how this whole mess likely plays out: the Canadians are going to come knocking and demand reimbursement for all those training sessions Fak did for the World Championships and the Olympics. Then, once again, the US Ski Association will just play dumb and pretend they have no idea what's going on. It’ll end up in court, where—surprise, surprise—the ruling will favor the Canadians. Since the USSA won't have the cash to cover it, the ISU will step in and suspend them. Eventually, the US Olympic Committee will be forced to foot the bill, which means there won't be any money left to fund training for any other American Olympians.

Hehe, what even is "retroactive billing"?? Let me explain it to you. I come over to your place and ask, "Hey, can I crash on your couch for five days?" You say sure. Two or three years go by, we get into a fight, and now we aren't on speaking terms. Suddenly, you show up at my door and say, "Pay me for those five nights I let you sleep here, or I'm taking you to court." What kind of nonsense are you talking about, man??
Paul Jones7 said:You can't even compare handball to biathlon; in handball, people actually make a living from club sports. Besides, what is "little Fak" even doing right now? Training out in the middle of nowhere on some unkept, messy tracks?

And I don't get this whole "if the money is there" thing. Where is he getting the cash? Did he pull some massive windfall from a transfer like a pro soccer player, thinking he can just pull $100k out of his own pocket?

If he was serious about switching federations, he should have secured guarantees from the Canadian Association before signing anything. He shouldn't be playing the martyr now. Give me one single constructive reason why our federation should just hand him a free release. If the federation can turn a profit off this, why wouldn't they? This is like walking into a grocery store, putting stuff in your cart, getting to the register, hearing the total, and telling the cashier, "Actually, just give it to me for free because I patched up your tire a few years ago."
Paul Jones7 said:You’re missing the point. This isn't just about the money; it's about national pride. If the USA Biathlon Association actually paid up $100,000, someone would jump at the chance to use that leverage against the leadership over at the Canadian Association. They’d launch an attack, and even if it was just driven by a certain (unfortunate) public outcry, they could force the top brass out. We're talking pure politics here. Plus, HBS pretty much knows the Canadians are going to struggle to cough up the cash. That’s the whole mess Fak is stuck in. Honestly, Fak should sue HBS for extortion, but doing that would basically be career suicide since legal battles drag on for years. If he sues, he loses everything.

If HBS refuses to back down and the Canadians can't pay, they'll destroy him. Now, HOO has enough clout to force HBS to drop this if they actually wanted to, but it doesn't look like they have any intention of doing so.

They didn't offer him anything remotely decent. With the terms they put on the table, forget about him ever winning another medal. He might have seen better paychecks, sure, but his training conditions would have been a massive step down from what he had while training with the Canadians.

If Šterbik could afford to wait, then this little faker can too—unless he's got the cash ready to go.

Maria Palmer2 said:Can anyone point me toward a spot in Washington, D.C. where I can play some recreational badminton? I was checking the Democratic Party website and it looks like most of the local clubs are strictly competitive. Since I'm 27, I can probably forget about joining those types of squads 🙂. I just want somewhere I can pay a fee to learn the basics—rules, footwork, whatever—because my company provides free access to courts, but honestly, we look like total amateurs compared to the people playing there 😛. I think the sport is awesome and I really want to pick it up, just for fun.

Look, you don't need a coach if you're just doing this for recreation. Me and my buddies started playing about a month ago. You get better every single time you step on the court; you just need the drive to keep going. Besides, you can find all the basic fundamentals explained on YouTube.

Ronald Gonzalez31 said:I've been watching these videos and I'm still a bit lost on the rules once the ball gets kicked. Does play stop immediately when a player catches it, or what? I see some guys pause while others just keep charging ahead. Can someone clear this up for me?

From what I gather, it's called a mark. Once he grabs it, the ref blows the whistle and the other team has to back off a certain distance. He can choose to keep running if he thinks he can make headway, or he can just plant his feet, take a breather, and take a free kick.

Looking for an expert to confirm or shut this down.

I just finished watching the replay of that championship game, and man, I am officially hooked on this sport. It’s fast, high-energy, and the rules are actually pretty easy to wrap your head around once you see them in action. 🙂

Good luck in Milan from my end, too—and seriously, let me know when there's a game happening near Chicago.

BTW, is that ball something special or just a standard rugby ball?

If the next game ends in a tie, they’re doing overtime, as far as I know.
Systemic censorship: Is free speech being targeted? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I forced myself to sit through this entire post, and I’m still sitting here wondering why on earth he got banned. If we’re calling this trolling, then 99% of everything posted here is just trolling. The guy literally stated that Hitler's Catholicism says more about him than it does about Catholicism, which is a perfectly valid point. He also buried that nonsense about being an enemy of education and all that other stuff.
This ban is just another ridiculous move.
Sorry if I’m cutting into some high-level debate here, but honestly, who gives a single damn about Jakov Fak??

P.S. I know I’ll probably get flagged or banned for posting this, but I just had to get it off my chest.

Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
I need to get some bloodwork done—basically a full panel. Does anyone have a recommendation for a private clinic that’s easy to reach by light rail? I’m still getting my bearings here in Washington, D.C., and I’m not exactly a pro at navigating the transit system yet, so the closer to a streetcar stop, the better. Thanks in advance!
Ex-Lax suppositories in Health ·
Look, I checked the damage immediately after the first attempt—just an old, stupid habit of mine, honestly. But I’m not really in any actual pain, just that usual discomfort you get whenever you're dealing with diarrhea.
Ex-Lax suppositories in Health ·
So, I’m heading in for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Following my doctor's orders, I used an Ex-Lax suppository around 6:00 PM tonight. It felt like it started kicking in after maybe twenty minutes—or at least, that's my gut feeling—but here’s the catch: the suppository itself came right out with my first movement. Is that actually normal? Or am I going to need to pop another one in?
