Speaking from my own experience, I can confirm the fit is perfect—no bumps, no lumps, nothing. It stayed completely secure even after I took a pretty nasty hit to the head 👍
Thanks a lot! 🙂
Hey everyone, I had nose surgery about two weeks ago to fix a deviated septum and a bump. I’m absolutely loving the look right now, but my doctor mentioned that the final shape won't truly settle until about six months from now once the swelling goes down and the bones settle. My main concern is: will everything actually STAY straight once it all settles? Assuming I’m careful and avoid any accidental bumps, of course.
Quick question for anyone here who’s gone under general anesthesia for rhinoplasty: did they make you do an enema before the surgery?
Megan Harris35 said:I opted for private testing, so everything was wrapped up pretty quickly. Normally, though, my blood work results show up on my Medicare portal by the second day, and you get the EKG results immediately. 🙂
As for the surgery duration, I can't give you an exact number, but let's say it was around noon or 12:30. I started coming out of anesthesia around 3:30, though I didn't really wake up on my own—the staff had to assist me. That was the only real issue for me; I noticed most of the other patients were waking up naturally. 🤷
Regarding the recovery experience... nothing. It felt like nothing even happened. They tell you that you absolutely need someone staying with you the first night because you might deal with nausea or dizziness, but honestly, I didn't have any issues, so 👍
Thanks, Megan Harris35! What did they actually do to your nose? They told me they’d be breaking the bone to straighten out the hump.
Thanks so much! :* How long did it take you guys to wrap up all the testing before the surgery?
Roughly how long was the actual procedure, and what was your experience like with general anesthesia?
Casey Kelly2 said:Hey everyone, I've got nose surgery scheduled in about a month and a half. Has anyone here gone through with the procedure under local anesthesia, or is general anesthesia absolutely mandatory?
Can anyone weigh in on this? 😢
Hi everyone, I’ve got nose surgery scheduled in about six weeks. Has anyone here actually gone through with this under local anesthesia, or is general anesthesia pretty much the only way to go?
I really want to do it, but it’s just not convenient right now. I don't live in the city, and I'm currently wearing braces—plus, I've heard some people say you shouldn't get nose surgery while you still have orthodontic work going on.
So much for my big plans to fix up my braces before college starts ://
Thanks anyway, though. :*

Fair enough, my mistake :/ But honestly, can you really just call up out of the blue and ask how long a procedure would take when the waiting lists are miles long? I don't know...
2. Can you get rhinoplasty done while wearing braces???
1. How should I go about asking them?🤷
2. Yeah, for dental work.

Does anyone know if it’s actually feasible to get an ENT surgery scheduled, including all the preliminary exams and getting the referral sorted, through a general hospital or a medical center before October? I'm trying to figure out if I can get the whole process finalized by then.😢
Does anyone actually bother with nose jobs while wearing braces?
Is it general anesthesia, or can they just do local?
Anyone? I need some help here. 😢
Hey everyone!
1. Does anyone know if it’s actually feasible to get an ENT surgery scheduled—including all the exams, getting the referral sorted, and everything else—through a general hospital or a specialist clinic before October hits? 😢
2. Can you undergo nasal surgery while still wearing orthodontic braces?
3. Is the anesthesia typically general, or is local an option?
Thanks so much 🙂. Is the wait really that long? I have a deviated septum, but I’m also looking to get some aesthetic work done on my nose at the same time.
I don't know if this is a stupid question, but what exactly does "secondary op" mean?
Hey everyone. I have a really urgent question. Does anyone happen to know the approximate wait time for an appointment with an ENT specialist? Specifically, I’m looking at either Mr. Tončić or someone over in San Diego. Also, does anyone know how long the wait is for surgery through insurance? Please help!
One more thing, on a slightly different note (not sure if this is the right place for it)—does any girl out there know some makeup tricks to distract from a terrible nose and draw attention to the rest of my face?
Betty Edwards22 said:You just head to your primary care physician, and they'll give you a referral to see an ENT specialist. You go in for the consultation, and then you find out what the verdict is.
Thanks for the reply, but most of the previous posts were just talking about procedures at private clinics. Does anyone here have actual experience going through Medicare?
Has anyone here actually gone through the process of getting an outpatient procedure covered by Medicare? If so, I’d love a firsthand account of how the whole thing went down.🙂
boldnomad45 said:If you have supplemental insurance, there’s no out-of-pocket cost. That said, be prepared to wait—it’s at least six months, though honestly, it feels much longer lately. You'll likely spend about five days in the hospital. I'm not sure if they'll bother with any cosmetic aspects for you; it sounds more like strictly medical issues. Then again, some people do get those extras done—maybe they had connections or just got lucky, who knows.

Thanks a ton 😉🙂Are you talking about supplemental insurance?
boldnomad45 said:Are you dealing with actual medical issues or just looking for cosmetic work? Usually, you go to your primary care physician, explain what's bothering you, and they give you a referral to a specialist. Personally, my doctor handles everything—he even sets up my imaging, so by the time I see the specialist, they already have my scans ready to review. From there, the specialist determines if surgery is necessary. You take their diagnosis and medical history to the nurse, who then schedules the procedure, typically with a six to nine-month wait. They’ll also give you a checklist of all the pre-op tests you need to complete before the big day.

Thanks for the info; things are much clearer now. Regarding my nose, one nostril is significantly narrower than the other, and I've been wanting some cosmetic adjustments regardless. If I go through insurance, will I still have to cover out-of-pocket costs for things like the hospital stay?
Hi, I'm new here, so I'd really appreciate some guidance from the veterans. I'm planning to have nose surgery covered by Medicare, but could someone walk me through the whole process 😕—from visiting my primary care doctor for a referral all the way to seeing the ENT? If anyone has been in this exact situation and has a moment to spare...
