It’s been five months now, and the tip of my nose is still swollen—it actually looks like a little bulb at the end! On top of that, I’ve ended up with two scars, one right under my eyebrow and another one sitting right on the tip itself. 😢
My doctor mentioned that if these scars don't fade away on their own, he’ll have to perform some kind of resurfacing treatment to smooth them out. Has anyone here actually gone through a procedure like that? What was the experience like for you?
I had my rhinoplasty about three months ago, and honestly, the tip still feels pretty stiff...
Do you guys think it’ll eventually soften up and settle down? It actually looks a bit thicker than it did before the surgery—it was so slim before, but it feels like they just took chunks out of it without much finesse.
What do you all think?
Hey everyone—it’s been about two months since my surgery, and I’ve run into a bit of a weird issue. I’ve never dealt with dark circles under my eyes before, but now they’ve just settled in and stayed there. 😢
They aren't budging at all 😢—honestly, nothing I try seems to make a dent. Has anyone else gone through something similar?
It’s been exactly a month since my surgery, and honestly? I’ve never felt better about how things are looking! 👍
I'm still waiting for the tip to settle down a bit more—it feels like there's still some swelling to go through. Also, my right side is looking way more swollen than my left... I have no clue why one side is acting up more than the other, but hey, that's just part of the process, right? It definitely feels like I'm heading in the right direction, though. My nose used to be quite narrow before this, so I can't help but wonder if the view from the front will end up looking similar to how it did before... especially since they removed the hump during the procedure, so who knows! If anyone wants to see some progress photos, just shoot me a private messageeeee 😁🎉

Personally, I couldn't really handle the shower spray hitting my nose directly—it just didn't feel right—so I ended up being super careful when washing my face.
Luckily, I didn't deal with any of that annoying splashing, but man, my skin got incredibly dry; it was actually peeling around my nose and eyes.
As for that numb feeling above the upper lip and the weird, unnatural smile? Honestly, everything eventually settles back to normal after a little while.😁

So, were you actually peeling that skin off your nose yourself, or did it just flake away on its own after a bit😕😕?
analogbison15 said:I won't go into too much detail right now because I’m just feeling a bit lazy—but honestly, I am beyond thrilled with the results! I can barely even recognize my own nose anymore. Huge thanks and high recommendations for Dr. Dinko Tončić and the entire staff! 👍

So, I actually have a few questions.

1. Now that the splint has been removed, can I go back to my regular shower routine like I did before the surgery?
2. Since I ended up with quite a few pimples because the skin couldn't breathe for eight days, what’s the best way to clear those up?
3. When I laugh, I get this sensation where my upper lip and the tip of my nose feel totally numb... Is it okay to laugh and talk normally without worrying that I might mess up the nose or something?

1. My splint comes off on the 10th day, and they told me not to shower it directly, but just to lightly spray it for a little while longer. I've decided to stick to that for the first month—so basically until October 9th.🙂
2. Same here, though I'm not touching anything at all... I'm just letting everything settle on its own.👍
3. That is completely normal! It happens to so many people—just be careful not to bump it against anything!😉
analogbison15 said:Is it actually normal to feel this weird, tiny little stinging sensation every now and then—almost like I've got scabs forming inside my nose?

Honestly, everything sounds totally normal to me 😁

But here's what I'm really wondering—should I try to peel those scabs away, or just leave them alone and let nature take its course?🤦
neonstag63 said:Totally. If I remember correctly, I actually headed into an exam about ten days after my surgery and didn't have any major bruising—it just looked like dark circles under my eyes, so everyone basically thought I’d been pulling all-nighters studying 😬! Plus, the nose really seems to "settle" its shape mostly during those first three weeks, and then things slow down significantly.

I'm really hoping your recovery isn't too drawn out. 🙂

Honestly, me too! It feels like it's only been 14 days... though I am still pretty swollen and bruised. The blue tint under my eyes hasn't quite cleared up yet, and my complexion is still looking a little bit yellow—kind of cute, I guess? 😍

By the time my semester starts on October 6th, I should be totally fine. 👍
neonstag63 said:For me, after about seven days—I still had a little bit of diarrhea lingering, nothing major at all—but honestly, I guess it really just depends on the individual, doesn't it? 🙂

Oh, wow, okay! 🙂 So you actually recovered pretty quickly then! 😉
So, roughly how much of the nose is going to get splashed? 🙂 I don't mean the whole thing—just the biggest part right at the start🤣 Honestly, I’m being such a klutz today, haha
Mark Young10 said:Hey, it’s me again! I was actually hanging out here about a month and a half ago—remember? I got some feedback back then, but honestly, I’m still totally stuck and can't quite make up my mind yet. So, here's the deal: I'm 14 right now, and I'm seriously considering going through with surgery. I know the typical age limit is usually around 16, though, right? Anyway, the main thing is that my nose looks exactly like Luke Modric's.🙂

Look, I’ve been dealing with my own insecurities since I was about 14 years old—and let me tell you, being a woman with a narrow face and a small head just makes you feel like everything stands out more, especially when you're stuck with a nose you can't stand. I ended up going through surgery when I was almost 22, but honestly? I made a point to wait. I wanted to be sure. First off, I wanted to make sure my facial structure had fully settled, and secondly, I kept wondering if I’d actually grow to love my profile once I moved past the awkwardness of puberty. So, my best advice is just this: give yourself some time... ☕

People are literally recovering from surgery in a hospital setting, and you're all sitting here planning to catch taxis or hop on public buses? Seriously?

I won't even get into the specific costs, the individual providers, or their accommodations, because frankly, the whole situation sounds just ridiculous. After a surgical procedure, someone is going to be groggy—they might even need pain management—so where are they supposed to grab a bite to eat? Is it really too much to ask to just hit up a local bakery nearby?! This entire thing requires some serious logistical planning, like maybe having someone drive you straight back to Chicago.

I'm with you on that... I mean, you truly never know how you're going to feel once the anesthesia wears off, so trying to jump on a bus the very same evening? No thanks. 😢 🤷
All I know is that if it were me, I wouldn't even consider it.
I’ve been trying to clear things out with some saline spray pretty much constantly, but honestly—hardly anything ever comes out besides just a bit of mucus. 🙄
This morning I tried blowing a little harder, and yeah, I actually saw a tiny bit of blood, but other than that, 🤷

And oh my gosh, the itching inside my nose is driving me absolutely crazy! Haha 😲😲😲
Betty Edwards22 said:First, try rinsing with some saline solution—and then for the first seven days after removing the Maxitrol packing, you can use three drops in each eye, three times a day. After that week is up, maybe switch over to a Nasonex spray or something similar.

Thanks so much for the help, dear! 🙂🙂🙂
I actually used those same drops on my dog about two weeks ago when they had conjunctivitis. 🤣
darkgardener9 said:It’s not just about that—that's definitely one reason—but honestly, how would you even plan on going anywhere if your nose was all swollen up anyway?

Oh, come on! You'll be feeling like a whole new person in just two weeks 🙂 so there's really nothing to worry about
electricangler32 said:Basically, you just need to rinse everything out thoroughly using saline—fill up a syringe, tilt your head gently to one side, spray it in, and then let it all drain out.
There’s going to be all sorts of debris coming out when you do that. 🙂
It won't hurt you at all, and honestly, it's pretty necessary if you want to wash away those scabs so the doctor doesn't have to scrape them off manually
later on.

thank you 🙂
I actually gave the department a call today—the nurse told me to use saline, and she suggested that if my nose gets too stuffed up, I should use some Operil just to help me breathe a little easier. 😉
Ever since I had my tampon removed, my nose has felt completely stuffed up—it’s just constant congestion. Does anyone know if there’s a specific ointment or some nasal drops that could help clear everything out a bit faster and get me feeling normal again?🙂
Hey everyone! 🙂

Well, here I am... I had my surgery on September 9th, and now I'm heading in to get my packing removed.
Regarding my experience—honestly, I didn't spend too much time digging through the internet or lurking on this forum because I knew I’d just end up overthinking everything, right? I figured I'd just feed my own anxiety and be more terrified than I actually was if I kept snooping around.
I know you all are worried and curious, which is totally normal, but honestly, when you want something as badly as I wanted this surgery, that desire just kind of overrides all that fear and everything else...
I had a septoplasty and rhinoplasty done at the hospital.
I won't drop names publicly, but feel free to shoot me a private message if you want to ask about the surgeon or anything like that.
So, basically, I had—to put it mildly—a bit of a bump on my nose. I hated it, and I had some seriously intense complexes because of it. In crowds, I was always trying to "hide" it somehow, and taking photos from a profile view was completely out of the question—I would have literally killed whoever tried to snap a picture of me from the side! 😁
But hey, if you haven't dealt with it, you won't understand, and even though most of my friends and acquaintances were saying stuff like, "Oh, it won't even look like you," or "I can't imagine you any other way," or "It looks great on you already"—well, the problem was mine and mine alone, and that was that.
I could hardly wait for surgery day! As for how the nose actually turned out? I have no idea, and honestly, I'm not ready to think about that just yet—you know, what's done is done. 🙂
On the day of the procedure—I was actually pretty fearless! They gave me a little blue pill, maybe half of one, that really calmed my nerves. Then I had some Brufen and an antibiotic. About 40 minutes later, the nurses arrived to wheel me into the OR. I laid my head down on those white rolls on the table, and the anesthesiologist goes, "Why are you so nervous?" (You can hear the heart monitor beeping in the background...) The next thing I remember from the anesthesiologist is, "5 ml of Dormicum..." And then, boom. Done.
I woke up in a room, sitting up in bed with two nurses helping me get my shirt on... I don't remember everything I said while waking up, obviously, and I did vomit once and got a Voltaren shot in the hip, but I don't even remember that part either! 😂
In the days following, my head hasn't hurt at all, but sleeping on ice packs was definitely annoying, and the worst part? All that mucus buildup and having to constantly spit. 🙂
However... oh boy, was I swollen. Like, abnormally swollen. On the second day after surgery, I literally couldn't see ANYTHING! Even the doctor commented on how sensitive I must be since I swelled up so much... I had bruises under my eyes and on my eyelids like someone had punched me right in the face! 😁
Everything is passing now, though. The bruises are changing colors—turning red, yellow, and green—and I've lost a looooot of weight/swelling, though I'm not quite back to normal yet. So, that's pretty much the gist of it. 🙂
Anyway, I'm off to get my packing removed now, so I'll check back in later! 😛
