As for your point about international matches—that actually works in my favor. Leagues run for 35 to 49 games a season, whereas European championships and cups consist of maybe 3 to 6 group stage matches plus the knockout rounds. That structure is much closer to today's game, where there's more chaos regarding scoring or holding onto a lead—something you admitted yourself.
