Iceland - USA Over 4.5 yellow cards @ 2.26 DraftKings 4/10 (0)

The pitch is rough—we all know how that goes—and conditions will likely deteriorate as the match progresses. This is a high-stakes game, which always breeds tension. We know the Scandinavian style is physical, and our guys aren't shy about playing rough or chirping at the refs, so a flurry of yellows isn't out of the question.
The referee is Alberto Undiano Mallenco, who isn't afraid to reach for his pocket—averaging over 4 cards per match.

I noticed the Under 4.5 line is sitting at 2.20 over at FanDuel, which opens up a small arbitrage opportunity if you play it right. Who knows, there might be better odds at some local US sportsbooks, though I haven't bothered checking.

Joseph Clark37 said:Iceland is playing on home turf—crowds that actually show up—which is a far cry from what our guys are used to playing in front of at a cavernous place like an empty Rose Bowl. We saw how they crumbled under pressure back at Yankee Stadium.

Even with 9,800 people there, you aren't hearing much noise from the stands—and that's assuming even a few of our fans show up. 🤷

Bryan Adams6 said:I don't feel like digging through old threads right now... didn't you say something similar before the last qualifying match? Just pure spite—thinking things would finally turn around this time... 😍

I did. 🤣
That’s exactly why I used the phrase "despite everything" in my first sentence.
😁 But there's a difference this time—a new coach, a potential jolt to the system, and a game that actually matters for our survival... unlike last time.

Iceland - USA 2 @ 2.10 PSK 4/10 (0-0)

Despite everything, I’m still backing our boys—they have a habit of responding when their backs are against the wall. Everyone is talking trash right now, which might just be the fuel they need to finally play the way they actually can.
Iceland is a decent squad that managed to navigate a tough group; they shouldn't be overlooked.
The coach is signaling an aggressive lineup with five attack-minded midfielders—I like that approach.
We have the talent; it’s purely a mental game at this point. I think we can sort it out tonight.

Mandžukić scores @ 3.20 HL 4/10

Mandžo is always in the thick of it—he's our primary striker and the focal point for every ball. If anyone finds the net, it'll be him. To be honest, I expected much lower odds on this one, but the value is there. I’ll play him as a single and parlay it with a US win for a solid 6.72 return.🙏

Kranjčar scores 6.00 Favorite 2/10

Niko has bailed us out more times than I can count. He has a sharp shot from outside the box and isn't afraid to pull the trigger—the odds are perfect for a small casual bet.

LA Galaxy - PSV Eindhoven 2 2,15 SS Favorite 4/10

Toivonen scores @ 3.50 Favorite 3/10

Stick with LA Galaxy while the streak lasts. They’re desperate—they’ve even started dropping points in MLS, which hasn't happened since they were playing in the minor leagues.
No crowd energy, no chemistry in the squad, no coach, no rhythm, no defense... nothing.
PSV is reportedly finding their footing—they recently dismantled Ajax, so they might just pull it off again today.

Toivonen is a Swedish midfielder/forward who, if you ask me, pops up on the scoring leaderboards over at ESPN.com more often than he should. 😁
LA Galaxy's defense is a mess and their keeper is shaky; everyone seems to score against them. I'm hoping he does too—the odds are decent.

Robert Jackson3 said:Which standard starting eleven are we even talking about in these qualifiers?

I misspoke slightly—I should have said the projected lineup.

Regardless, we have seven or eight guys who are essentially locked into the starting XI whenever they're available.

Pletikosa, Strinić, Ćorluka, Šimunić, Srna, Modrić, Mandžukić...

James Taylor3 said:What do you guys think—can our boys beat Scotland today?
I think they can, regardless of how poorly we've been playing lately.

We have too much individual talent and a clear edge over the Scots; plus, there's no pressure from recent results, and the players are undoubtedly motivated to prove themselves after the entire nation tore them apart.

James Taylor3 said:True, but even when people were trashing them, they still showed up to watch and support. After the matches against Wales and Mexico, people rarely criticized the team because the results hadn't turned sour yet, despite the play.

The Belgium game was really the breaking point—there weren't even 6,000 fans at the stadium.
And you can tell by the players' comments (Pletikosa and someone else) that they’re motivated and want to make some amends.

And now you're being dense. You see my point. Regardless of how important this match is, they want to fix the mood within and around the team before the next qualifying round.
They want to redeem themselves to themselves, to each other, and to the American public. They surely want "revenge" against Scotland, since that loss at the home stadium started this slump—everything had been perfect until then.

In any case, I'm not betting on this one—at least not until I see the lineups. If the coach starts with a strong XI, I'm definitely taking the double; if he makes 4 or 5 changes from the usual starters, I'll pass on betting.

Our guys are playing their strongest available lineup, so I'm going with:

Scotland - USA 2 @ 2.40 SS 5/10

Bryan Adams6 said:Ever since that match against Wales, everyone’s been talking trash about them—but honestly, I haven't seen them play a single game where they actually looked motivated. 🤷

That’s true—no matter how much they were criticized, people still showed up to watch them and offer their support. After the matches against Wales and Mexico, people only started talking trash because the results hadn't caught up to the performance yet.

The match against Belgium was really the breaking point—there weren't even 6,000 people in the stands.
You can tell just by listening to the players—Pletikosa and a few others included—that they're motivated. They clearly feel the need to make some sort of amends.

Bryan Adams6 said:That’s just it—if they couldn't find the motivation when the stakes were actually high, why on earth would they suddenly care today? 🤷

And you're missing the point. You know exactly what I mean—regardless of how much weight this game actually carries, they just want to boost morale within and around the national team before the playoff qualifiers kick in.
They want to redeem themselves—to themselves, to each other, and to the American public. There’s a clear desire to "get even" with the Americans, too; that loss at the stadium kicked off this downward spiral, whereas everything had been flawless until then.

In any case, I’m not putting a cent on this game—at least not until the lineups are out. If they come out of the gate with their strongest XI, I'll definitely be taking the over. But if there are four or five deviations from the starters, I'm sitting this one out.

Drew Wright said:Robin van Persie (idg)-Turkey-Netherlands (10.15. 20:00) betting@3.20Van Persie is leading the qualifiers with 11 goals—with Džeko right behind him at 10, who’s playing now and will likely net his 11th, if not more. If Van Persie starts tonight, he'll score; that's why I'm hoping for a full Dutch lineup...🙂

I've seen a few articles suggesting Persie won't be playing tonight.

Bryan Adams6 said:Don't mess with me—you don't seriously believe this, do you? 🤣

A total NO BET for me.
We were huge favorites back in the States during that matchup, and we all know how that turned out... Scotland is a tough side at home, and knowing our players, nobody is going to be focused on tonight's game.
Add in that idiot sitting on the bench, plus the fact they'll likely rest guys due to yellow card issues... I wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole. There are much better games on the slate tonight to put on a parlay. ☕

Do you really think they aren't motivated?
It’s perfectly normal to me that they're fired up, considering how much everyone has been talking trash about them—they were used to being treated like superstars here in the US until just four or five weeks ago.
They're athletes; they're human beings. They want to show (or prove?) to the fans and the media that they're wrong.
Since the result practically doesn't matter for us, there's no pressure—which means they can play freely and potentially perform better than they have in their last few outings.

Mandžukić?

I'm reading this on Index—not that they're exactly reliable, but let's hope they aren't making mistakes constantly:

- Modrić, Kranjčar, Vukojević and Jelavić are all on yellow cards and will miss the first game of the playoffs if cautioned against Scotland

What do you guys think—can our boys take down the Americans today?
I reckon they can, regardless of how poorly we've been playing lately.

We have far too much individual talent and a clear edge over the Americans. Plus, there’s no pressure from recent results, and I'm sure the national team players are incredibly motivated to prove themselves after the whole country tore them apart.

USA - Belgium 2 @ 3.20 Marathonbet 6/10

It’s no secret that our boys are struggling—they’ve completely bottomed out over the last four or five matches. There’s zero forward momentum, even against weaker sides; I can't imagine how they'll fare against Belgium, easily one of the top three or four teams in Europe right now. To make matters worse, we're missing two pillars of the squad—Srna and Simunic—who provided much-needed stability to an already shaky defense. They are the only true leaders this team has, so it won't be an easy day for the Americans.

Belgium boasts a stellar generation—it's hard to pick a standout because they all play key roles for elite European clubs.
Sure, they're missing a couple of players, but their bench depth is impressive regardless.
They really only need a single point from their remaining two matches to theoretically clinch the top spot in the group, though I doubt they'll settle for just a draw. They know they can hold their own against an American side like this, even at Yankee Stadium. Their first match ended 1-1, but Belgium dominated the play—we could have easily lost there. Then again, we might have won if Vid (Ćos: "Domagoj, Domagoj") hadn't missed that sitter in stoppage time.

Belgium plays fast, attractive football and creates plenty of chances, while our defense remains fragile—especially without the aforementioned duo.
The Belgians are solid defensively, whereas our guys are, to put it mildly, struggling to build any rhythm or create openings. Consequently, Mandžukić might find himself completely isolated.

Lukaku scores a goal @ 3.60 PSK 2/10

The perennial youngster is in peak form in the Premier League, scoring whenever he gets the chance. He’ll start today as the focal point of Wilmotsov's attacking formation.
As I mentioned, our defense is shaky and lacks conviction, while Lukaku is both powerful and clinical. I expect him to capitalize on at least one of the many opportunities that will surely come his way.

Quick heads-up: the odds for Rijeku are sitting at 6.20 over at Pinnacle—definitely higher than what you'll find at the local US sportsbooks once you factor in the vig.

Can someone who actually follows soccer explain why the odds for PSG are sitting at 1.78 on Pinnacle?

It feels a bit high—especially considering Benfica hasn't looked remotely convincing in the MLS lately. 🤷
I see PSG is only missing Silva, whereas Benfica is down 3 or 4 players.

LA Galaxy - LAFC (-1.5) 2 @ 2.08 DraftKings 5/10

I have to deal with Robert Wright4 again. 🤣

The Galaxy hasn't been great lately—dropping games even in MLS, locker room vibes are off, you know the drill.
That said, they are still seven classes above LAFC, who might actually be the worst squad in the league right now.
LAFC’s defense is a sieve and their attack lacks any real creativity; I expect the Galaxy—likely hungry to snap this skid—to walk away with a routine win, just like they usually do against them.
I caught their first matchup this season; the Galaxy absolutely dismantled them. They barely created a single chance, aside from that one late goal in stoppage time, if I recall correctly.
I've watched LAFC play about four or five times this season—they are genuinely bad, especially defensively. Every opponent seems to carve them up.
Easy win for the visitors.

Los Angeles FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes 1 @ 1.85 SS 6/10

LAFC isn't playing with the same flair they showed last season—it's a bit more functional—but they remain one of the top four teams in MLS.
The roster is solid; Chago is back in form, leading the charge alongside Mišić and Šitum.
Their defense has been reliable enough for this league, which explains why they’ve racked up so many points this year.

Then there's San Jose—the newly promoted side that looks like they might struggle to stay in the top flight. They aren't particularly impressive; the defense is shaky, and there's a general lack of quality, both as a unit and individually.

I honestly don't know what the oddsmakers at DraftKings were thinking with these lines. I was genuinely surprised when I saw the spread this morning.
In my view, the fair price should be around 1.50 to 1.55—and looking at international books, they seem to agree, averaging 1.53.

My play:

LAFC -1.5 @ 3.10 SS 2/10

It’s purely because the current odds feel unrealistic—the handicap is a very legitimate option here.
LAFC has a potent attack, a lethal counter-attacking style, and they punish mistakes—which is exactly what San Jose tends to make.
