That isn't true; people are constantly bringing them back...
Maybe you just got burned once and that's why you're saying this, or perhaps you work for Customs now.😵

Customs fees are tied in, and once you cross into Canada, you'll end up paying a 17% sales tax plus customs duties—bringing the total hit to roughly 35%. It simply isn't worth it for anything over 800 dollars; it only makes sense for smaller amounts.

I'm not sure why, but I've never run into any issues. I actually successfully claimed a tax refund on a laptop $2667 I bought, and the whole process went smoothly without any trouble at all...

Whether you're actually based in Canada or just there on a temporary visa, you still face the same hurdle: you either have to ship everything back or physically drive yourself down to the retailer or the service center. Either way, it's an extra step you don't need. 🤷

To be honest, I tend to avoid ordering from overseas unless it's through Amazon. They seem to be the only reliable option that ships directly to the US without any hassle. Every time I find a German retailer offering a great price, it inevitably turns out to be some shady scam site.☕

When you actually sit down and look at the numbers here in the States, it’s pretty eye-opening. We’re seeing an RTX 4090 sitting at around $20,000 and an RTX 4080 hovering near $18,000. It really puts things into perspective. 🤦
If I had the capital, I’d buy ten of them right now just to flip them here.☕
Since I'm right by the border, everything is easy for me. I can be in Miami in about an hour. 😁

The 4070Ti is starting at $980 including shipping for the Inno3D model, and it's in stock right now.
The only $1,200 model I managed to find is the ROG Strix.

https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/inn...0+ti+x3+788585
https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich....html?q=4070ti

Look, I wasn't saying they were all $1,200. Of course there are cheaper options available here too. I personally paid $1,400, while in Germany it's about $1,220. But keep in mind, if you buy from overseas and something goes wrong with the card, you have to deal with the hassle of shipping it back and waiting for a resolution... 🍿

steelfalcon71 said:There aren't any customs fees since both countries are part of the European Union. I order from abroad all the time. The only issue is dealing with those poorly managed shops that occasionally miscalculate the tax—charging you 25% instead of the standard 19%. If that happens, you just skip them. It’s that simple.

If you buy locally at our domestic prices, are you out of your mind or just throwing money away?

So what? How much extra are you actually paying when you order directly from Germany?
For me, it would have been worth it because I was coming from Canada; I really should have ordered through someone in America!
But it's too late now, I already pulled the trigger on Micro Center... I definitely overpaid a bit, but at least I have peace of mind for the next five years. 😁

That’s true; once you factor in the sales tax difference and shipping, the total ends up being about the same—unless there are some sudden flash sales. For instance, there were a few days where the RX 6700 was listed at $375, making the final price on Amazon about $403, but now the price has gone back up...

I'm actually based in Canada 😁
But honestly, it all works out to be roughly the same. Once you pay the sales tax, it might even end up being $100 cheaper $67
I was just talking to a friend over in Germany, and they have the 4070 Ti for around $1,100. That means we're paying about $200 more here, which makes sense given that our income levels are significantly higher than theirs 🙂🙂

Besides, AMD has been struggling lately. Their last two series, the 7000 XT and XTX, had massive issues with their cooling systems, so...

wiredotter14 said:Where on earth did you find one for $1,350? 😵😵

For just an extra $200, you could step up to a 7900XTX or a 4080.

In Germany, prices sit around $900–$950, whereas here in the States, they go for $1,000–$1,100.

Here is where:
I originally intended to grab a 3080 Ti, but since the price was identical to the 4070 Ti, I went with that once I saw the deal...
Honestly, don't bother looking at Germany; by the time you factor in shipping and duties, the cost ends up being the same. Besides, I noticed that over at AMD.US, things are actually cheaper by about $800. $367
But I haven't been able to find anything for $900 locally...☕
P.S.: They start the build today. 🙂

wiredotter14 said:If both new cards were priced around $900, I’d go with the 3090 just for the Intel memory capacity.

As it stands, I believe opting for the newer card at a $150 premium is actually the smarter move.
Performance-wise they are fairly close; the 4070Ti edges out the 3090 slightly in gaming, landing somewhere in the realm of the 3090Ti. Ray tracing performance is essentially on par with the 3090.

At your resolution, you aren't going to run into any VRAM limitations.

Personally, I would wait a bit—perhaps until the price dips below $900.

Is the 4070ti series actually bad? I see quite a bit of criticism regarding it on YouTube. I already ordered mine, but now I'm worried I overpaid... I bought a whole PC, but since I'll be getting a tax refund, it might end up costing me less than expected.

RTX 4070 Ti vs RTX 3090. The 4070 Ti is more power-efficient, about 10% faster, and would be brand new from a retailer for $950. The RTX 3090 is used but still has 10 months of warranty left, offers twice as much VRAM, and would cost me $800.

My CPU, case dimensions, and PSU aren't issues here. My main focus is gaming and ensuring I can run everything on ultra settings at 3440x1440p resolution for as many years as possible.

I would appreciate any thoughts or reasoning you can provide. Thanks!

Where on earth did you find one for $950? Every retailer I checked was quoting me closer to $1,349.😵😵😵

After exchanging at least ten messages and consulting with three other guys, I finally placed my order. However, instead of sending me the pre-assembled units, they sent the components separately. Even though I hadn't explicitly specified that I wanted them fully assembled, the issue is that they rushed to process the order without ever asking for my preferences or providing a price quote. Honestly, it’s baffling when people seem this intent on turning down money.
And now I'm just sitting here waiting for a response. Does anyone have any idea who will be handling the assembly for me?
It’s funny how everyone has an opinion on this. You have one person insisting that I need to settle the full amount upfront, while someone else suggests just dropping 20% now and covering the rest as I go. 🙂

wiredotter14 said:Honestly, that just doesn't make any sense. 😵

If I were running my own retail shop, I wouldn't dream of offering cash discounts on custom-ordered items, especially not on high-end custom PCs. People place orders and then simply vanish. I'm sure that's happened more than once.

Or was the intention for them to pay cash upfront before the build even begins?

Exactly. That’s why you take a small deposit; if they flake out, the business isn't left holding the bag. It's pretty straightforward.

I've decided to pick up a full PC setup from Micro Center, excluding the monitor, for about $2,000.
I was offered a 5% discount, but there's a catch: it only applies if I pay via online banking. They won't accept any other method. Even though I told them I'd pay in cash, they refused, claiming the amount is just too high. I don't quite get it—doesn't everyone prefer cash?😵

I suppose that's just the trend these days. ☕
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
So, what’s the actual difference?
Well, one is the Ti version (which comes with 12GB) while the other isn't (and only has "just" 10GB)
It’s a pretty significant jump; I’d say at least a 10-15% performance boost
in favor of the Ti model, just so there's no confusion.
The price tag likely reflects that gap, too.
At the end of the day, you probably just get what you pay for.🙂

Look, I’m aware, haha. And honestly, the gap isn't massive $400 but I'm leaning toward the 3080 Ti because it's $3433 though I am eyeing the 4080. $4333 It feels ridiculous that they won't lower the prices on the other cards...
When you compare the 3070 Ti to the 3080 Ti, there's a clear distinction $1333 but they aren't touching the prices on these others at all.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
A three-year gap isn't exactly negligible, either.

That’s exactly how I’m looking at it, too.

On another note, could someone give me a better idea of how much of a performance jump there actually is between these two cards?

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, 12GB GDDR6

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 10GB GDDR6X
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Basically, it's the exact same graphics card at Best Buy $3000 as it is at Micro Center $2667, but the only real difference is the warranty coverage since one offers five years while those other two ☕

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Personally, I still believe we'll see some price corrections soon. Just look at the RTX 3080$3333 compared to the 3070 Ti priced at $6,400--$2333that's just completely unrealistic...

velvetlynx3 said:I’m expecting everything to climb after the new releases... both prices and stock levels. Looking at what I specifically need, costs have already risen by about 8%...

Personally, I believe we'll see prices drop—maybe not drastically, but perhaps a 10 percent dip for my brother...
I even came across an article suggesting that while grocery prices will rise, tech hardware might actually become more affordable. ☕

You can find Palit products in stores across America quite easily. They actually claim to be one of Nvidia's largest AIB partners.
https://www.palit.com/palit/about.php?lang=en

It seems they shouldn't be underestimated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palit_Microsystems

I see, though I haven't been able to find any high-quality videos about their graphics cards on YouTube.
