It’s entirely possible he ends up facing the same fate as Mark Webber. If Lewis Hamilton runs into trouble and starts falling behind early in the season, Rosberg's performance might start to slip too.
That said, looking at the lineup of drivers who actually have the machinery and the ambition to challenge him—guys like Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Räikkönen, Valtteri Bottas, and Felipe Massa—I honestly doubt he’ll lose that second-place spot, even if Mercedes loses its massive edge.

Even after those first qualifying sessions, it’s becoming painfully obvious that Honda is a total bust. It isn't just about the reliability issues; they look fundamentally slow, too. I have to admit, it's pretty disappointing, though I suppose we should give them at least one race (or maybe a few more) before we pass final judgment.

To be honest, I’d be pretty shocked if Kimi Räikkönen managed to beat Sebastian Vettel, let alone put up a real fight. I don't usually have strong feelings about Vettel, but I still expect him to handle an aging 36-year-old Finn who is clearly on the decline without much trouble.

When it comes to McLaren Honda, there really isn't much to be surprised about. Both sides of that partnership—and especially Honda—have been in a state of total decline over the last seven or eight years. Of course a driver can't just shave four seconds off their time—I never claimed that was the case. But they certainly can find a few tenths, and you never really know where McLaren Honda will land, how much those tenths will matter, or if they'll even make a difference at all.

As for Ferrari, everything mentioned holds water. I'm actually a supporter of the team myself, so if you think I called them "incompetent" out of some sort of grudge or antagonism toward Ferrari, you're mistaken. Throughout their history, they've had some of the absolute greatest figures in Formula 1, and there's no debating their legacy.
What I meant to convey is that I feel the people currently running things (and by "currently," I’m referring to the last few years) aren't particularly capable, which is why I don't have very high expectations from them right now.

Mercedes' dominance isn't going anywhere.

Those guys in Maranello might be able to fool an amateur, but they aren't fooling us experts. It’s honestly become a joke how they consistently coast through their prep work and practice sessions. Any success they have feels purely accidental. And even if they do stumble into something good this year, their so-called "experts" within the team will just ruin it by chasing questionable "upgrades" from race to race.
Because of that, I’m predicting mediocrity for Ferrari, just like we've seen in recent years.
It doesn't help that they don't have a top-tier driver in the lineup this year, so they’ll likely look even worse than before.

Red Bull Racing is on a downward spiral. Those of us who actually know what we're talking about saw this coming way back when Sebastian Vettel was racking up those titles under Newey's guidance. Regardless, they'll still finish ahead of Ferrari this year. Plus, their driver lineup is objectively better.

As for McLaren, we'll have to wait a bit longer to judge them. They could easily emerge as the second most convincing team on the grid—similar to how Red Bull Racing looked last year after struggling early on—or they could turn out to be a complete disaster. Let's hold off for a while. We also shouldn't forget that they currently have arguably the best driver on the planet.
