Thanks so much

Hey everyone! Does anyone know if there are any nonprofits in Miami that offer psychological support for cancer patients? Or even just some general support groups in the area?

Thanks so much for all the help! ☺ Honestly, he’s just really worried about that growth rate. He even did the math and told me, "If it keeps growing like this, you'll have metastases in two years." Even though all the levels look normal, that sudden spike totally threw both of us for a loop. Who wouldn't be rattled by that?
He had two ultrasounds done, and everything looks perfectly fine. So really, nothing is an issue except for that constant rise in his PSA levels over this past year. Isn't it strange how that works?
Hi everyone, could anyone share their thoughts on my dad's post-op PSA levels? He had a radical prostatectomy about five and a half years ago for prostate cancer. His pre-op PSA was 4.8, Gleason Score was 7 (3+4), stage T2C, and the pathology report showed "no tumor cells at the surgical margins." He didn't need any follow-up therapy after the surgery, and his initial post-op PSA was just 0.01.
For the last two years, his PSA stayed steady at 0.02, but his most recent result came back at 0.044. Since there's a visible upward trend, I'm wondering what might be causing this rise, even though it's still technically below the detection limit.
Thanks!
Thanks so much! My dad just got his referral for an ultrasound, and the doctor actually recommended he get the procedure done now instead of waiting three months like originally planned.

Hey everyone, could someone help me make sense of these urine results? It’s for my dad, who had surgery for prostate cancer about four years ago. He just had a cytology screening because there was a tiny trace of blood in his urine—specifically near the lower bladder area.
"Urine (3-day collection) shows sparse cellular sediment with highly degenerative clusters of transitional and squamous epithelium. One sample contained a small cluster of dyskaryotic transitional epithelial cells, some neutrophilic granulocytes, mucus, and rare Red blood cells. Follow-up urine cytology scheduled in 3 months."

Sandra Vaughn50 said:I'll take a quick look at those results, even though this isn't exactly my area of expertise. What do you think?
I'm guessing that protrusion you mentioned is happening at the L5-S1 level? It could be in the cervical spine too, right?
Did you mention if your mother is dealing with any symptoms? Is she struggling with diagnosed osteoporosis, muscle weakness in her legs, or maybe some tingling and numbness?
So, according to the results, it looks like there's some damage to the nerve roots that control the muscles in both the upper and lower limbs—likely because a protruding disc is pressing right on those nerve exits. Anyone else dealt with something similar?
It seems like my right arm and left leg are the ones getting hit the hardest—I'm guessing that shows up as muscle weakness or maybe some tingling?
Thanks so much! My mom is dealing with those exact same issues. She’s also been diagnosed with osteoporosis and gets this tingling sensation in her hands—plus, she keeps tripping over thin air while walking on flat ground, especially with her right leg. Isn't it scary how that happens?
So, what are we supposed to do with this diagnosis? My doctor recommended some spa therapy, but there’s already a three-month waitlist in Split. What should I do? 😢My mom has such an exhausting physical job, too—she’s a nurse at a nursing home working specifically in the disability ward. And apparently, they aren't even allowed to write on her medical reports anymore that she needs a lighter duty assignment? Since when does that happen?
Hi everyone, could someone help me make sense of these results? It's for my mother (she's 55), and she's already been dealing with a disc protrusion in her
.
Thanks so much for the reply! It seems to me like everything looks fine as long as those first two zeros are there. That said, his doctor suggested he check in with his oncologist to figure out why these changes are showing up at all and if they should consider a bone scan. So, we're just waiting to hear what the oncologist thinks now.
Hey everyone, I could really use some advice here. My father had surgery for prostate adenocarcinoma back in June 2011, and his Gleason score was 3+4=7. His first PSA reading in September 2011 was 0.00, and since then it's hovered around 0.01 and 0.018. However, he just got today's results back and it's up to 0.022. Is this enough of a jump to be worried about? Does this indicate the cancer might be coming back, or what should our next steps be?
Hi everyone! I’ve been following this community for years now, and I just want to send so much strength and positivity to everyone fighting these tough battles. My dad had surgery for prostate cancer about a year and a half ago. It was caught early, so he just had a prostatectomy, and we’re just doing regular checkups now. Everything looks great so far, and we're staying hopeful!
However, there's something else on my mind. After his surgery, his doctors mentioned that his children (regardless of gender) need to be more proactive with screenings because they might have a higher risk for things like breast or ovarian cancer.
So, I'm wondering—how much "more frequent" are we talking about here? I'm 28 and currently go for my gynecological exam once a year, but I'm not sure if I should be doing anything extra beyond that...
Thanks so much for all the help! 😍
Just one more thing—what’s the standard prophylaxis used for high-risk cases?
Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from the group if anyone has a moment.
I'm scheduled for an abdominoplasty—basically a tummy tuck—in just under a month. However, I’ve been doing some reading, and I'm starting to get a bit spooked. Apparently, it can be a long, risky procedure because of the potential for blood clots. I know it's rare, but still, it's out there. For context, I'm generally healthy and don't take any daily meds, but I am a smoker (and I've read I should probably quit smoking and stop drinking herbal teas about two or three weeks before the surgery?).
So, I wanted to see if any doctors here, or even anyone who's gone through this themselves, could give me some perspective on the actual risks? I really started getting anxious once I began falling down the internet research rabbit hole...
