But if everything goes smoothly, I’d want to head out early—not immediately the next day, obviously, but maybe after three days instead of the full five or six.
Look, nothing catastrophic is really going to happen. If you get a heavy nosebleed, just suck on some ice or press against the roof of your mouth; that’s what they do on the ward, too. You might run a fever, but anything under 100.4°F is pretty standard after this kind of surgery. The only real issue is if those tampons slip down toward your throat—which is rare—but they told me to just hit the ER if that happens. That’s it. Seriously, don't count on getting any actual rest or sleep at the hospital. I had a private room which was awesome, but the lady snoring in the room across from me was driving me crazy. Two closed doors between us and she was sawing logs like we were sharing a bed! If you're a light sleeper like me, it’s going to be a struggle. Plus, they start checking your temperature around 5:30 AM, so forget about sleeping after that. Honestly, I was just stoked to finally get home. And let's be real—home food always tastes better anyway!!! :-)
Well, I guess because everything went fine, and honestly, they probably just needed the beds since things were backed up because of that strike. Either way, being in your own bed at home beats being stuck in a hospital any day.
@Alex Moore62/">@@Alex Moore62 Daaa! And they actually told me I should feel honored because they only perform this kind of surgery once a year. Happy happy happy!!! If only I wasn't dealing with this cold right now (meaning: I'm a total mess and my nose won't stop running), recovery would definitely be going a lot smoother.
Went to see Dr. Jurlina today for my dressing change. Honestly, the guy is a legend—he deserves a statue or something. I finally survived getting those gauze pads and tampons pulled out. It doesn't actually hurt, but the sensation? It’s like someone is trying to pull your brain out through your nose. He patched me back up with all this tape. It feels like he built some kind of custom mold because apparently, something inside needs to heal "perfectly" or whatever. Anyway, I'm back this Friday for another dressing change, and next week we're talking about those spreader grafts he put in... though I didn't really follow all the medical jargon. His schedule is absolutely insane. He actually asked the nurses to stop booking patients because he's so backed up. So, if you're looking to see him, good luck—you better be persistent because you won't get an appointment easily. But hey, you'll get the coolest doctor who actually knows his stuff. Cheers!
@stormylynx21/">@@stormylynx21 I have no clue what it’s like at Holy Spirit, but I can tell you how it went at Seattle University Hospital—maybe that’ll help you out! :-) Right before my surgery, they gave me half of a little blue pill and then wheeled me off in a cart to the so-called "recovery room." That's what they call it, anyway. Once I got there, they tucked me into bed and you just... wait. The nurse told me, "Just lie down, the pill will knock you out soon," but honestly? I didn't sleep a wink. Then the anesthesiologist showed up and put in a Braun needle or a cannula or whatever you call it into my IV, and gave me something else, probably more stuff to calm me down. After that, they moved me into the OR. Such a fun crew in there! We were all joking around because they actually misspelled my last name on the paperwork. I kept begging them to fix it because I didn't want them accidentally amputating my leg, so they started cracking jokes about what they might "accidentally" cut off. Haha. I eventually woke up back in that recovery room and then they wheeled me straight to my hospital room. But hey, four years ago when I had my tonsils out at Holy Spirit, they took me directly from my room to the OR, though who knows if they've changed things since then. Anyway, good luck!!!
Hey everyone, I’m finally checking in. Had my surgery yesterday and I’m already back home today. Everything went smoothly—no bruising so far—but man, I can't get comfortable. Every time I think I've found a position, my mouth goes bone dry, and it just keeps happening. Around 5:30 PM, I begged the nurse for some pain meds, which probably knocked me out because I ended up crashing for a bit. Now that I'm home, the nosebleed isn't nearly as bad; thank God it wasn't constantly draining down my throat. But ugh, my head is pounding, my nose has this stinging sensation, and even my teeth ache, haha. Still, I survived. Thanks to everyone for the advice, and wishing you all the absolute best!
I honestly don't know. It doesn't look like things are 100% settled yet, so I doubt they even have a clue themselves. My big worry is that if you're paying for aesthetic surgery at a hospital, you might not get that same level of care you'd get at a private practice. You could end up getting stuck with some low-budget service or just a "take it or leave it" attitude.
Yeah, they told me I won't know anything until it's finally my turn. By the way, Dr. Jurlina mentioned that moving forward, they aren't going to be doing cosmetic procedures covered by Medicare anymore (you know, if you have an actual medical issue and try to sneak in a little aesthetic tweak at the same time). Apparently, they feel like it’s just wasting money and time on nonsense when there are plenty of much more serious patients dealing with things like tumors and whatnot... So listen up, people—get in while you still can... Thanks, Alex Moore62... :-)
Hey everyone! First off, thanks to everyone for all the advice. I finally got my surgery date after waiting for 10 long months! Dr. Jurlina is going to be performing the procedure. It’s septoplasty, turbinectomy, spreader grafts, and since they're already getting in there, I asked them to shave down the tip of my nose too. Does anyone who’s been to Vinogradska Hospital before know how long they keep you overnight? My admission is on January 13th—anyone else scheduled for a checkup around then? Peace!
