Is it actually possible that out of all these doctors, not a single one has a perfectly spotless reputation? I’m constantly lurking on this forum, and it feels like every time I find a surgeon who seems totally amazing, I’ll flip through a few more pages and suddenly see someone saying they completely ruined their nose, while someone else says it turned out perfect. I get that every nose is different—obviously—but I still have to ask; is there really just one doctor out there who can do a great job without leaving you with lumps, bumps, or other issues later on?
Just keep in mind that some people are way too critical of a nose that hasn't even finished settling into its final shape yet. For instance, I just went with my gut feeling—it was important to me that I felt comfortable and that the doctor was approachable. But I did make sure to glance over their previous work and check this forum too... 😉
Honestly, I wouldn't put anything around your eyes except for some cold compresses. They really did the trick for me—on the first day, my eyes were so swollen I could barely even open them.
On another note, does anyone know if it's normal to have a slight fever or just feel kind of under the weather after having a tampon removed?

Another sleepless night over here... Oh, and there's still a little bit of bleeding—nothing crazy, but it's constant, I guess. At least I think I'm handling it okay so far.
I could try to send a photo, but honestly, it's such a hassle and I'm really not looking to force anything right now.
Are you using a Q-tip to poke at your nose near your ear, and have you noticed any of that yellow mucus?
And yeah, my sense of smell actually came back. The only problem is that all I can smell is how bad my own nose stinks.😬
So, today is day four since they pulled out those tampons—it didn't exactly hurt, but man, it was super uncomfortable. It's quick though, so I guess it's fine...
Right now, it’s just constant drainage, which is kind of annoying, so I started using some Pfizer drops five times a day. Nothing really hurts, and I still feel that pressure because of the cast, but I can't breathe through my nose at all. I can't seem to catch a full breath, and whenever I try to inhale through my nose, it sounds like a trumpet 😁
The thing that’s actually worrying me is this yellow mucus I'm seeing—is that normal? Also, I'm done with the antibiotics, but I've still been running a low fever of about 99.5 every single day.
How much does the tip of the nose actually drop after the cast comes off? I told my doctor I really didn't want a hooked shape, so now I'm kind of spiraling—worrying that it might end up looking saggy or droopy. My natural nose was pretty straight, and honestly, that’s exactly how I want it to look
I’ve been scrolling through this whole thread, but honestly, my brain is kind of a mess right now and I can't quite keep track—did you guys start breathing through your nose right after taking the tampon out?
Hey everyone, just checking in after my surgery. It’s my third day now—I’ve got these purple bruises circling my eyes, and my cheeks feel pretty swollen too. The procedure was done at Mayo Clinic by Dr. Pirkl. I actually ended up seeing her quite by chance; I wasn't specifically looking for her, but she seems great—very down-to-earth, and I guess her patients really seem to love her. They did a septoplasty on me to fix a deviation and the nasal septum.
Nicole Ortiz34 said:Haha, I’m using nasal strips too! 🙂 Mine don't even seem to work—if anything, things just feel more congested. 🙂 Fingers crossed yours actually do the trick. Which doctor are we talking about? Just want to make sure I steer clear if I can.
It's me again... 😁 Are those special strips your doctor prescribes, or can you just grab them at any local pharmacy? I have to be back at work 10 days after my surgery (while I'm still recovering at the hospital). 🙂 I haven't had the procedure yet—it's for a deviated septum and some rhinoplasty stuff—but it should be happening in a day or two. I'll definitely post an update on how it goes for anyone else going through this later on.🙂
Nicole Ortiz34 said:Nobody really told me anything—I guess I’m just left hanging on this one. 🤷 I mean, does anyone actually do that? Because honestly—the sensation when you touch the tip... it just doesn't feel great. I guess I'm just wondering if it's even worth the hassle. 😕
And how much time has passed since the OP? Are you still dealing with that swelling, and if so, where exactly is it acting up?
Hey everyone, I was wondering—how many of you actually got instructions from your doctor to massage the tip of your nose to help bring down the swelling faster? And for those who did, how long did it honestly take before your nose finally settled back into its normal shape?
So, I’ve been reading through everything and it seems like quite a few of you are heading back in for follow-up surgeries because things didn't go quite as planned during the first round 🙂. 🙂 Besides the widening of the nasal side bones, what else has been happening for you guys?
Please help—or just share your experience if you have one! Did anyone else find that their nasal side bones widened out about a month or two after surgery on the nasal pyramid and septum? You know, kind of like how it looks on Black people?

I was actually pretty lucky—they let me skip ahead because they had a sudden opening—but that was before everything moved to the centralized scheduling system, so I'm not entirely sure how it works now. Usually, the chest X-ray results come back in a day or two, depending on when the radiologist gets around to writing them up... same goes for the heart reports if there's a cardiologist on site to sign off immediately. As for blood and urine tests, those are typically ready by the next day.
Thanks! I'm heading out tomorrow to tackle all these tests. 🙂 Oh, and about the EKG and ultrasound—my primary care doctor mentioned that you don't actually schedule those specific ones in advance; you just show up in the morning and wait to be seen. I really hope she isn't mistaken about that part.
Hey everyone, I haven't been able to find a single thread here about what to do leading up to surgery. Since the staff at our local hospital can be pretty stern—kind of intimidating, really—I've got a ton of questions swirling around my head. It’s actually getting a bit stressful because I keep getting conflicting info from different people, and my procedure date is creeping up fast... For instance, if my surgery is set for March 21st, when should I actually go in for my blood work, urine tests, and those heart and lung screenings? Is doing it 10 days beforehand cutting it too close?
And does anyone know how long it usually takes to get results back from a local clinic?
