You can basically boil down the action in any movie into seven core themes.

And setting scripts aside, let's talk a little about the filming process

It looks like everyone is pointing me toward the i7-4770, while I ended up picking the i7-4770...S. The S version runs a bit cooler, but the 4770 definitely has that extra kick of speed.
What's the deal with the i7-4771, though? The price gap between the slowest one (the Intel Core i7-4770S Haswell 3.1 GHz LGA 1150) and the fastest (the 4771) is about $100.

What's your take on the Gigabyte GA-H87-HD3?Thinking about the H87...Is that the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3...? $27 I really need more USB 3.0 ports...

Benjamin King2 said:That Quadro K600 graphics card is pretty decent... $433You can use it for both AutoCAD 2006 and MATLAB too... Check out this breakdown on NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards... It’s got some great info if you're looking to dive deeper into the hardware!

SSD: I found this SSD kit online, and honestly, it looks like a pretty solid deal if you're looking to give an older system a bit of a boost... It’s got a Samsung 120 GB 840 EVO in there, which is always a reliable choice for making things feel snappy again. Everything seems straightforward—just a standard SATA setup that should plug right in without any headaches. If you've been feeling like your computer is dragging its feet, this kind of upgrade is usually the easiest way to fix it... worth checking out!

My budget for a graphics card and an SSD is actually what I've set aside for my peripherals. I'm planning to pick those two up a bit later on... once the prices finally drop... 🙂
Hey everyone!

I'm looking to put together a PC for some work involving AutoCAD (just 2D stuff), running simulations in MATLAB/Simulink (plus data processing), and obviously the usual—Microsoft Office, browsing, movies, and things like that. Definitely NOT for gaming.
Since I have some extra free time and really feel like building my own rig, I've come up with this setup.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or any advice you might have...

processor Intel Core i7-4770S Haswell 3.1 GHz LGA 1150 65W
cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212
motherboard ASUS Z87-A LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI sat 6
memory Corsair DDR3 8
hard drive WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM 64MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5''
graphics card (integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600)
case Thermaltake Chaser A21
power supply XFX Core edition PRO550W
optical drive Samsung SH-224DB

around $1833
+ other peripherals (monitor, mouse, keyboard) = 8 - $3000

My goal is to have a machine that lasts me for several years. My last one was bought about 7 years ago and it still runs Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007, and AutoCAD 2006 pretty smoothly, so I've made sure to leave some room for future upgrades—specifically for more memory, a dedicated graphics card, and an SSD.

Thanks!
