Gaming upgrade with a $600 budget? in Desktops ·
Of course, if a user messes it up, that's on them. Those pins slide right into the socket perfectly; you'd have to be a complete amateur to force it if it isn't seating correctly. As for the CPU, it’s not just going to die on its own—that's an extremely rare occurrence.

Processors don't just fail; they are arguably the most perfect and durable components in any build. You might run into one dud in every few thousand—maybe even tens of thousands. If you can still find them, buying a used one is absolutely worth it.

Just a heads-up, we actually have a hardware marketplace specifically for requests like this.

My attempt at getting everyone to agree on specific price points here didn't exactly pan out.

Most forums tend to run on one of two models: either you have dedicated threads for specific budget ranges, or everyone just starts their own individual thread based on their own needs. In the first scenario, when there's a sudden influx of users all asking for different builds within the same thread, things get messy fast—people get overlooked and it becomes a disaster. Personally, I think the second way is perfectly fine. After all, what’s the point of having a massive community forum if only a handful of threads are active and filled with nothing but clutter?

It really isn't that simple. 😁
Prices and availability fluctuate almost daily, plus everyone has unique requirements, different payment methods, and various other factors to consider.

What’s your primary use for this PC?

If you're looking to play AAA titles, you'll need to add another 4GB of RAM and grab a more powerful graphics card.

The power supply should be fine, though you didn't specify which exact Corsair model you have.

In my opinion, these are the best value GPUs currently available under $200:

Look, that retailer doesn't even stock the FX 8300 or the DS3P motherboard (it's clearly listed in the top right corner), and Hyper hasn't offered a 5-year warranty like that in ages. That's why I put this build together using parts from several different shops instead.

That won't fit within a $3,100 budget, even including an SSD.

When you're building for gaming, the GPU is always going to be your primary bottleneck, but this setup leaves you plenty of breathing room for future upgrades.

EDIT

Or perhaps:

Look, we usually tell people on the forums to hang tight when a new release is on the horizon, but this isn't exactly dropping next week. It wouldn't make sense to tell everyone to just sit around indefinitely—that's not how life works. Besides, some folks need a new rig immediately, while others might find themselves broke by autumn if they don't get their timing right (assuming there aren't any more delays)

As for the aesthetics, don't sweat it. Once the commercial sockets paired with DDR4 hit the market, the variety will expand significantly, including options with beefy heatsinks and better cooling solutions alike.
It isn't actually that much more expensive, to be honest.

Prices are going to drop drastically in the near future.

It doesn't just offer higher bandwidth; you also get lower voltage requirements (1.2v vs 1.5v) click. Of course, that doesn't mean much to the average user—unless they're running an integrated GPU—but the average consumer isn't the only player in the game (think server farms). Besides, this is just the natural progression of technology; DDR3 isn't going to stay the standard for a hundred years (usually, an eight-year cycle is the norm). Upcoming sockets like LGA 1151 and potentially AM4 will support DDR3 as well, making the transition pretty seamless.

Alright, what’s the actual use case for this PC?

It's decent, but you really ought to pick up an aftermarket cooler if you want this rig to perform properly (even something like a Spire Kepler or an LC-CC-95 from $33)

120GB HyperX SSD, Hyper 500W (with a 5-year warranty), 8GB RAM = total $1003, and you end up with two extra cores plus that aftermarket cooler

If you're willing to stretch the budget, you could also go for the 240GB SSD (the OCZ Arc 100 240GB model for $240 before they're all gone)
It’s definitely not too early to consider it; DDR4 has been on the market for ages now, and lately, the prices have become incredibly budget-friendly.

As far as features go—nothing new as far as I can tell.

🤷

You have here a specific workaround (which pops up in several other threads like this one), so give it a shot—you've got nothing to lose.

It says:

You'll see 60Hz or ADAPTER DEFAULT listed - same as what was there before. Click on this so that it is selected again. It may seem odd that you are reselecting the same value but this is a necessary step so please don't skip.

If that doesn't cut it and the previous drivers were working fine, just stick with those and call it a day.

From what I can tell, that "analog out of range" error usually points back to the monitor itself. What refresh rate is your screen set to, and are you actually able to change those settings?

Try enabling the Intel XMP Profile in your BIOS settings. If you need more details, you can always find the manual on the manufacturer's official website.

The motherboard manual will explicitly tell you which slots to use for Dual-channel

It’ll also show you if Dual-channel is active within the BIOS or through tools like CPU-Z

What tool did you use to wipe out the leftover driver sweeper files?

Try resetting your monitor to its default settings—native resolution, standard refresh rate, all that stuff—before you test it again.
We might actually see prices drop back down to those 2012/13 levels, when you could snag 8GB for just a few bucks less than today$100
