Just watch out—it’s acting like a flash sale right now, and in a few days, it could easily jump another 100 points $50 higher, just like it did before.
Well, obviously that update didn't actually expand the list... What CPU are you running now?
And if it works—it’s not worth losing your mind over. You're better off grabbing a Piledriver like the AMD FX-6300 (which is an absolute steal), or if you're on a tighter budget, maybe a AMD Phenom II 945 .
Looks good to me. Just one thing: skip the current drive and grab a 7200 RPM model instead—maybe a Western Digital Blue or something from Seagate. I'm not sure where you're shopping, but you could easily shave some money off the total by picking a more budget-friendly case. Check out those newer entry-level options like the Phoenix or Griffin series.
Patrick Diaz49 said:Heh... so I picked up four Phenom processors at Micro Center yesterday. They still have at least 30 more sitting in stock, and I actually went ahead and reserved another five for myself next week. 😁
Seriously though, don't sweat it—Micro Center has plenty. It looks like everyone else grabbed theirs too, so feel free to build those rigs with them while they’re still listed on the site. 😉
Phenom FTW!
Oh, and just so you know, Asbis is the importer; at least that's what it says on my packaging. 😉
Check this out, I just finished putting one together. 😁
mellowtiger83, you can't just hawk your custom builds like this—there are rules in place. Anyone who tried posting similar setups or individual parts before was told to head over to the Marketplace instead. Posting like this gives you an unfair advantage over everyone else. If every single person with an account started spamming their own gear here, this place would turn into a total circus. On top of that, if these items are brand new from a retailer, you need to list the exact components or provide direct links, including the store name and the price. Right now, it’s too vague; nobody knows what they're actually looking at or what the deal is.
That Phenom isn't even BE—the shops corrected their listings later on. What I mean is, with an i3, you actually have room to upgrade the CPU, just like you would with that AM3+ combo. With FM2/+, it’s probably the same story—maybe they drop one more CPU line, but it'll likely be the same old thing or nothing significant enough to make upgrading worth the hassle.

Total: $1525 - this price is for cash; if you are paying in installments, expect it to be about 10% higher—so just a tiny bit over $1667
Alternatively, here is the Intel option:
1 x Kingmax 1x8GB DDR3 1600 FLGG 1 x SAPPHIRE Radeon R7 265 2G GDDR5/256-bit 1 x LITE ON IHAS122 DVD-RW 22x Super Multi, SATA, Black, Bulk 1 x SILVERSTONE Strider ST50F-230, 500W, Walmart, 1x120, Black 1 x Acer V226HQLAbd 21.5" LED Monitor 1 x MS PHOENIX case without power supply 1 x HDD Desktop Toshiba DT01ACA050 (3.5", 500GB, 32MB, SATA III-600) 1 x INTEL Core i3-4130 (3.40GHz,512KB,3MB,54 W,1150) Box, Intel HD Graphics 4400 1 x Asrock 1 x Asrock s1150 H81M-VG4
These are all essentially the same card—they all run on the same 5450 GPU. The only real differences are the manufacturer, the cooling setup (whether it's passive or active), and whether you're getting the 512MB or 1GB version. To be honest, I haven't heard much about any 32-bit versions worth mentioning—if you have a choice, just go with 64-bit. I’d suggest picking up an Asus or MSI model because they offer a solid 3-year warranty. Also, I wouldn't recommend using Edigital Shop (especially if you aren't living right in downtown Chicago)—you'll likely deal with long shipping delays, and if you ever need to file a warranty claim, you could be waiting months for a resolution.
The HD 6450 is a newer model and slightly more powerful, but honestly, that won't make a difference for what you're doing. I'd suggest grabbing this one or this one. Both come with a 3-year warranty, feature 64-bit/1GB specs, and use passive cooling. They are practically in the exact same class.
It’s true, the site just compares raw GPU specs—which is completely pointless if the architectures aren't even the same (let alone being several generations apart). Just look at the example crimsonstag84 provided above; someone looking for help is going to be led down the wrong path instead of actually getting any useful guidance.
Let's say you were trying to compare an old BMW V12 engine to a modern V8. It just doesn't work that way.
As for motherboards—if you were looking for something cheaper than what you have now, you’d probably end up with an H81 model. But there's a catch: you'd lose that internal USB 3.0 header (unless you go with an ASRock HDS board), and you'd be stuck with only two RAM slots instead of four. If you do go that route, just grab a single 8GB stick. Honestly, if you've already paid a premium for your current board, I’d say stick with it. It's the smarter move.
The TT Commander isn't exactly top-tier quality, but it fits your specific requirements...
But what about the difference between GDDR3 and GDDR5? There should be a noticeable gap there. Can I actually leverage any of the advantages of version 5 over 3 using my current (older) card? Right now, I'm just stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to figure out😁what can be combined or utilized here. And I noticed that prices for the 5 series are starting at only $450...
Look, DDR5 won't make a dent in your day-to-day tasks or while you're watching videos; that kind of bandwidth matters way more for gaming performance. If you're dealing with weak integrated graphics, then those basic GPUs mentioned are perfectly sufficient for your needs.
Intel Core i5-4440 (3.1GHz, 6MB, LGA1150) Kingston 120GB V300 SATA III SSD Western Digital Green 1TB SATA 3 WD10EZRX Kingston HyperX Blue DDR3 1600MHz 8GB (1x8) MS Logic A10 case Gigabyte H81M S2PV with Corsair CX430M Corsair CX430M 430W, Modular Power Supply
I'm looking for a GPU recommendation—new or used—that will perform well. My budget is around $333 bucks.
Thanks
It would be a solid move if you could stretch the budget a bit to hit an r9 270; that CX430 should handle it without breaking a sweat.
