We aren't quite sure which store we're talking about here 😛
You probably won't land on something perfect since you'll be stuck with a pre-built setup, but I guess they might be able to find something significantly better for you.

Motherboard hitting 112°C... help!

Must be a bug... there's no way the CPU is sitting at 29°C while the motherboard is hitting 112 😬

It’s probably the Core 2 Duo E6550... if we're just looking at single-core performance, the E6550 might have a slight edge 😬

Unfortunately, you can't really upgrade the CPU either... the AM1 socket won't support anything more powerful than what you've currently got. It's just one of those platforms designed for ultra-low power consumption—only about 25W—so it’s strictly meant for basic tasks, like I mentioned before.
If you're looking to actually get into serious gaming, you'll probably need to swap out both the motherboard and the processor. Plus, we already established you'll need a new graphics card too. If you ended up buying this blindly, well, I guess that happens all the time with pre-built systems, especially in the budget range up to $1000.

I’m assuming you mean this processor:
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-X4-5350-Processor/dp/B00C6P4NTC
Unfortunately, it isn't really built for much more than web browsing and Office 2000 work.😬
For $667, you could put together a decent base without a GPU, then maybe grab a used card for $167 and you'd be able to play most modern titles on 1080p low/medium settings quite nicely.
The GeForce G210 is basically just there to output a signal; it's honestly garbage for anything else. I suspect the integrated graphics on the Athlon 5350 might actually outperform it.
The Radeon HD 3870 is way stronger, sure, though it's also pretty weak by today's standards. You might be able to get a playable experience in newer Battlefield or Call of Duty: Black Ops II titles at 720p/low.
By the way, I was thinking about selling my new G120 for $150-$67 to save up about $200. But now you run into the issue where the CPU is too weak to keep up with cards like the Radeon HD 7850 or GeForce GTX 660, so you're kind of stuck, unfortunately.

Eh... I guess you should have done a bit more digging before buying the whole rig. If you'd picked out individual parts instead of a pre-built, they probably would've put together a much better setup for you.
The Radeon HD 5850 is a seven-year-old card at this point. It was last available around mid-2011, so it's definitely way older than three years.
I'm not sure if it's worth it... personally, I’d hang onto the Radeon HD 3870 for a while longer since it blows that GeForce G210 out of the water. I'd probably sell it to save some $200, which might get you a pretty decent used card, like a GeForce GTX 660 or an HD 7850.
P.S. What exactly did you end up getting? What else is in the build? You can run Speccy to check out the rest of your components.

Used PC builds: What are they worth?
in Desktops ·
@The New Guy
That's probably cutting it too close... if I recall correctly, an HD 5750 won't go for less than $100, maybe $83 at most. Same goes for the CPU. Since RAM prices have jumped quite a bit over the last couple of months, you might need to budget about $67 for that too.

The 275GB Crucial MX300, SATA3, CT275MX300SSD1.
It’s an MSI B150M Bazooka Plus, LGA 1151 socket.
It’s an Intel Core i5-6402P (6MB Cache, up to 3.40 GHz) on the LGA 1151 socket, I guess.
The Zalman Z1 NEO mid tower case.
The XFX RX 480 8GB GTR (RX-480P8DFA6) features 8 GB of DDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus, running at 1288/8000 MHz. I guess it's a decent little card.
It’s an FSP Fortron/Source Hyper 500W unit, ATX 2.31 spec—specifically the HP500, model PPA5005003. I guess it's just one of those standard power supplies.
WD Blue 1TB HDD, 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA3, WD10EZEX
I guess this is just a single 8GB stick of DDR4 Crucial RAM, clocked at 2133MHz with CL15 latency. It's the CT8G4DFS8213 model.
Total: $2.25 AMD (assembly included, free shipping)

That’s roughly $4.25, so I guess you might want to look for something a bit more budget-friendly 😛

RX 560 ~ HD 7870
I guess that doesn't really move the needle, so it might not be worth the hassle... either maybe try a decent CPU overclock paired with a GTX 1060 3GB, or just go all in on a brand new setup.

GTX 1060 = CPU bottleneck
An RX 560 would probably be just right, maybe even the 4GB version. You can grab a Gigabyte WF2 4GB for about $383. I wonder what he was running before?

RAM Upgrade Advice

Does it have an SSD? I guess adding another 8GB of RAM might help a little, but maybe not that much.
Is it worth overclocking an i5-6400?
in Desktops ·
You can find a BIOS with that feature online if you look hard enough 😬
