Looking for a new laptop mouse recommendations in Computer Peripherals ·
redpilot14 said:Greetings. It’s me again. Following my recent acquisitions of a laptop and some speakers during yet another graveyard shift, I’ve decided I need an extra mouse for this laptop. I absolutely loathe using touchpads, but I have zero desire to lug my G700 around in the field. So, I am officially requesting your recommendations.
I’m looking for a few specific things:
- Precision.
- Wireless capability (though, if a wired mouse offers significantly better performance for the same price, I’m open to the cord).
- The ability to plug it in via USB if the battery dies—similar to how the G700 works—but honestly, that isn't a dealbreaker.
- A more compact form factor. It doesn't need to be microscopic, but it shouldn't be a massive beast like the G700.
- Just the basics: two buttons and a scroll wheel will suffice.
- My budget is roughly $45.

I’d highly recommend the Logitech M560. It’s a fantastic, compact little mouse. The ergonomics are great, it's lightweight, the response time is solid, and it feels really natural in your hand. I ended up grabbing mine over at Best Buy for about $83.
Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 for a new build? in Software ·
Steven Fowler12 said:So, I'm looking at a clean install on a new Seagate st2000dm001, using an Asrock b75m motherboard, an i5-3330, and 4GB of 1600 RAM (just a single G.Skill module). I'm definitely leaning toward the 64-bit version.

It’ll mostly be for browsing the web, doing some light multimedia work—you know, music, photos, movies, that kind of stuff—and maybe playing a few low-demand games every now and then.

While we're at it, what kind of CPU cooler would you guys recommend? I really value quiet operation without sacrificing efficiency, or should I just stick with the stock one that comes in the box?

If you could give me a few sentences explaining why I should pick 7 over 8.1, or vice versa, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Both Windows 7 and 8.1 will get the job done for what you need (web surfing, editing audio or video) quite well. Personally, I’d go with 8.1 because I actually dig the Metro interface; it boots up faster and generally makes the whole computer feel snappier.
Wireless vs. wired: which is better? in Computer Peripherals ·

or

It’s a decent enough selection of peripherals, though if I were in your shoes, I’d grab that first mouse before anything else. Personally, I always lean toward wireless gear just because I can't stand dealing with a mess of cables cluttering up my desk.

Practicing in a mirror... now what?
Are we supposed to walk through life constantly overanalyzing our own facial expressions? Like, turn ourselves into robots or something? Life is already complicated enough without adding that to the mix.

I'm a believer in just trying to maintain a positive mindset—that usually takes care of your expression naturally. If it doesn't, oh well. That's just who we are.

I honestly never quite wrap my head around why people jump into threads to comment when they clearly haven't a clue about the subject or don't have any skin in the game. Regarding your specific take, look—I respect your opinion, I really do, but you're just plain wrong here. Everything needed to understand the situation was laid out right there in the original post.
Half a kilo of Nutella in 5 minutes? in Miscellaneous ·
Carl Torres21 said:A buddy of mine is trying to bet some serious cash on whether he can polish off half a kilo of Nutella in under five minutes, but he wants to wash it down with water. What do you guys think—is it doable?
We were watching this guy online and it gave him the idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OENU9ZMEeww .That guy managed to scarf down 750g without any water, but honestly, he’s an outlier because that dude can seriously eat anything...

If he's actually putting real money on the line, he’s almost certainly tried this before and knows he can pull it off. Personally, I wouldn't touch that bet; eating half a kilo of Nutella in five minutes is definitely possible if you've got the stomach for it.
Richard Taylor8 said:Anyone else deal with this where your face just doesn't match how you actually feel? Like, it’s totally misrepresenting what you're trying to project to people.

For instance, if I'm feeling down, I just end up looking spaced out and vacant. Or if I try to give someone a friendly smile, it comes off as sarcastic or mocking. It's frustrating because I can't seem to figure out how to move my face to show what's actually going on inside—or even just to look the way I want to look. People constantly misread me, and half the time, it just ends up being awkward or funny in a bad way.

Is anyone else stuck with this issue? How do you handle it? Did you eventually learn how to actually control your expressions over time?

@JustinPapar gave you some solid advice right there. You really need to practice in front of a mirror. The trick is to actually visualize a specific scenario in your head and then try to mimic the expression that would fit that moment while watching yourself. It might also help to pay closer attention to how other people carry themselves in different situations. Just watch them carefully and try to learn. Facial expressions are huge and they communicate so much, so I wouldn't take this lightly if I were you.
PC turns on from sleep mode in Hardware ·
I’m honestly telling you, you should just go ahead and wipe the drive and do a clean install of macOS. There's a very real chance the OS itself is what's causing all this headache.
