Hi there! I have a quick question for an anesthesiologist... So, this coming Wednesday (that's only four days away!), I'm scheduled for cholesteatoma surgery. Last Wednesday, I came down with a bit of a mild cold... just a couple of sneezes, a tiny little cough, and my nose is running just a smidge. I've been taking a decongestant, which seems to be working—my nose is clear, I can breathe just fine, no fever at all... I've also been doing some steam inhalation and nasal rinses, and I don't have any pain. I was just wondering... should I look into postponing the surgery, or is it okay to go ahead? Help!

I think I’ll start with my primary care physician since he’s making his rounds here in our small town, and then I’ll head over to see a hematologist if it looks like it's needed. Honestly, I just hope everything turns out fine—I feel like I've spent half the year losing my mind bouncing between doctors' offices and clinics.

I think I’m going to head over to my doctor's office today and ask for a referral to a specialist who actually focuses on this field. Would seeing an internist be the right move here? Also, could someone clarify what hypersplenism actually entails?
