I know plenty of people who have spiraled into such deep depression that they're basically stuck in a loop, mostly because depression and stress are the biggest, most common triggers for Psoriasis. It sucks, but it is what it is; you can't change your skin, but you can help yourself prevent it from flaring up in its worst form.
I usually tell everyone I have it—which shocks my parents, who always chime in with stuff like, "Well, not everyone needs to know." Honestly, I don't care; it's not like I have the plague. Besides, it’s easier for me when I can talk about it openly. It's just a medical condition like any other—though, if I'm being honest, the cost is infuriating. Everything else—well, you just deal with it. 😉
Yes, I agree that mindset is everything. Since I was a kid, I've never had an issue telling people what's going on with me—why? It's become a mechanical response at this point, and it doesn't bother me when people ask. But regardless, I can't help but wonder if I should stop hoping for a total cure. If I give up that inner desire and just accept that I'll be in the ring with this until the end—if I learn to live happily despite whatever flares I have tomorrow—am I essentially closing the door on a full recovery by adapting too much? I've dealt with this since birth, and I refuse to tell myself I'll just carry it forever. I don't think anyone should settle for just "managing" it, either—because you never know when you might get lucky. 🙂
