You could totally be dealing with migraines if you're getting headaches along with light sensitivity... for me, a migraine always hits with a killer headache and photophobia, plus I get this weird aura right before the pain kicks in where my vision goes all wonky—everything looks distorted or like I'm staring through water, just super blurry.
As for an aneurysm, I actually know a few people who’ve dealt with them. One lady had these brutal daily headaches, drooping eyelids, double vision, and her face would occasionally go weak on one side. Turns out she did have an aneurysm, so she had to get surgery. Honestly, she was lucky she even had symptoms to tip her off.
Based on what you're describing, I don't think you need to freak out about an aneurysm. But look, if you're losing sleep over it, just go see a doctor and let them decide if you need any scans.
One thing though—I'd really suggest you skip mentioning Dr. Oz or trying to self-diagnose an aneurysm.

My boyfriend talked me into watching this flick the other night, and honestly? It was kind of a letdown 🤷 There were a few decent moments here and there, but that’s about it. I wasn't exactly setting the bar high, but man, it still managed to miss the mark even for me 🤷
What is the point of the ER? in Health ·
I’ve heard some wild stories floating around here, but luckily I haven't dealt with any of the nightmare scenarios most of you have been through.
It honestly sucks that so many of you had such brutal experiences and had to deal with all that chaos.
Back this fall, my Grandfather lost his balance and tumbled off the attic stairs. We called 911 and they actually showed up within ten minutes to pick him up. They didn't even waste time grilling us over the phone...
She’s three months pregnant and just had her routine blood work done. Everything looks totally normal, except her Pct is sitting a little high at 0.288 (normal range is 0.108-0.282). Does this actually matter during pregnancy, or what could it be flagging?
How do I find out what I'm allergic to? in Health ·
So, you're looking at allergic dermatitis, which basically splits into chronic and acute—and based on what you're describing, you're definitely dealing with the acute side of things.
With acute dermatitis, you usually see skin flare-ups on your neck, face, forearms, or hands about 24 to 48 hours after hitting an allergen. It starts with redness and swelling, then moves into blisters and scabs, all while driving you absolutely crazy with the itching.
Common culprits for this kind of reaction include stuff like disinfectants, heavy-duty cleaners, various chemicals, certain meds, contact with metals, or even specific foods...
Honestly, since you mentioned working around salon supplies, my money is on an allergy to hair chemicals. Things like peroxides, hair dyes, PPD, ammonium thioglycolate, preservatives, shampoos, or cleansers can all trigger a nasty reaction. Have you messed around with any new products or materials lately?
You should probably grab a referral for an allergist and go talk to a pro. I totally agree that testing for grass allergies makes more sense once the frost clears because the results end up being way more accurate, but for chemical sensitivities, there's no reason to wait around—you can get that checked out whenever you want. 🙂

Pain in my left arm, chest, and stomach in Health ·
It’s definitely possible.
Like, you could be dealing with an intercostal nerve issue or just some serious nerve inflammation.
Does the pain feel like it’s traveling along a single line? Like it’s following the path of the nerve or something?
Honestly, the way you mentioned things getting worse when you’re doing heavy lifting makes me think it’s all tied back to your spine.
You should probably get your back checked out and grab some advice from a physical therapist.
Good luck! 😉
Head CT and clean scans in Health ·

Referral for VERTIGO SYNDROME
BRAIN CT:
A brain CT was performed using 8 mm transverse slices without contrast. On the resulting scans, there are no areas of altered density seen within the infratentorial brain parenchyma.
The III ventricle, IV ventricle, and lateral ventricles show normal shape and width.
Sulci on the cerebral convexity are appropriately deep.
Conclusion: Brain CT shows no significant pathomorphological changes in the brain parenchyma. An MRI of the brain is recommended.

Even though I’m not a doctor, I’m assuming this isn't anything scary??? But it still bugs me a little why they want an MRI... is there some suspicion about something or what??? Just to add, for the last 3 months I've been dealing with insane dizziness... this weird feeling in my head... like part of it isn't even mine... I don't know how to describe it... I often feel like I'm gonna pass out... and I'm constantly sleepy...
Thanks...

So you got sent for a CT because of the vertigo. The results look fine. They're probably just sending you for an MRI because it gives a way more complete and detailed picture.
And looking at those dizzy spells you mentioned—honestly, I deal with almost the exact same thing. Only for me, it’s been going on for nearly a year now. It still hits me from time to time. I had an MRI done and everything came back clear. Turns out for me, it's an ear issue. When it hits, I can barely get out of bed.
Did you have any ear infections right before the dizziness started? Did it hit you all of a sudden? Does it come with nausea? Any neck issues? What kind of tests have you actually done for the vertigo so far? There are so many reasons for it—could be balance center stuff, neurological, neck problems, or even just anxiety/stress....
Can someone take a look at my blood work? I typed everything out so it's easier to read 😁 The reason I'm getting this done is because my allergist demands a full panel at every single checkup, so here we go 😁

Eye pain?!?! in Health ·
Michelle Williams5 said:I know I need to see a doctor—and I’ve actually got an appointment lined up for next week—but I wanted to see if anyone else here deals with this kind of stuff. I've dealt with killer headaches my whole life. They hit me more often sometimes and less at other times, but they're always right behind my forehead. I went through all kinds of tests years ago, but nothing ever turned up. Lately, though, I've been getting this weird, sharp pain right behind my eye, shifting slightly from left to right. Sometimes the blood vessels in that eye get all red, too. Honestly, the only thing that helps is popping a heavy-duty painkiller and closing my eyes to sleep it off. I thought maybe it was sinus issues, but reading about what people with sinus problems go through, I don't really fit the bill; I don't get constant colds, I'm not sensitive to the cold, and I don't get a runny nose all the time. It doesn't seem like eye strain either, since the pain hits regardless of how I spend my day. Has anyone else gone through this? Any advice?

Hey 🙂
I went through something almost identical—just this deep, stabbing pain inside the eye itself. Turns out I needed glasses (only a tiny -0.5 prescription in both eyes), and while I don't wear them much, putting them on when my eyes start hurting makes the pain vanish pretty fast. I also had an infection in my left sinus that made my left eye ache like crazy, and the ENT specialist confirmed that was the culprit. I didn't have a runny nose or anything, and the weather didn't bother me, but those forehead pains were absolutely brutal, especially on the left side. The doctors kept telling me everything was fine, until an MRI I had done for a totally different reason finally pointed toward the sinuses. When I get a migraine, it honestly feels like my eye is going to pop out of my head.
Some common triggers for eye pain include tension headaches, migraines, sinus infections, vision issues, or even glaucoma...
But for me, it definitely felt like sinuses.
Your best bet is to start with an ophthalmologist. They can check your prescription (since bad vision causes headaches), look at your retina, and probably check your eye pressure too...
Anyway, 😉

Elizabeth Jackson64 said:A million posts about blood pressure or whatever everyone keeps harping on about... honestly, just try lying there for a few minutes before you actually get up. Don't just go "hop" straight to your feet; sit on the edge of the bed for a bit so your body can catch up while it's still half-asleep. I haven't really scrolled through the other threads, but that’s just how it works for me—I deal with this stuff all the time even though I'm healthy as a horse. 😉
Yeah, it’s possible. Some meds can definitely trigger that, especially for me when I'm dealing with my period. I used to pop Advil whenever the cramps got bad, and my doctor actually told me that was a super common side effect of those painkillers.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a shot. 😉
I’m always power walking, running constantly, and honestly, I have this habit of jumping up from my desk way too fast. I definitely need to fix that before I wreck myself. 😁
I had no idea about that stuff with the allergy meds. I’m currently juggling three different kinds, so I definitely need to dig through the fine print and see if they're actually clashing with anything.

Carl Castillo69 said:Last time I checked my blood pressure—maybe three or four years ago—it was running a little high, but honestly, what the hell is "blood sugar" anyway?
How am I supposed to get back to being "normal" again? Since late April, I’ve just been totally wiped out—zero energy, everything feels exactly the same, my diet and workouts haven't changed, but out of nowhere, I'm just completely spent. Back in high school, I used to eat dinner at like 7 PM and then wouldn't touch a thing until a late lunch the next day, which meant going over 12 hours without eating, and I'd still go out and crush a run. Just a mile. Everything was fine six minutes ago, but now I can barely walk without feeling like garbage. Trying to pull off even two sprints is an impossible mission at this point.
Which one's mine?

Grape sugar is basically just glucose. It’s an instant energy hit, and honestly, whenever I start feeling wiped out—probably like my blood sugar is crashing—I just grab some and feel better almost immediately. It gets that energy back into your system fast.
I'd honestly love to give you some advice if I actually knew what was going on.
I've been dealing with this crap for over ten months now.
Probably the same thing you guys were just talking about above. My blood pressure is straight-up tanking. 😉 So you're telling me you went for bloodwork and everything came back totally fine?
Allergies can actually kill you, for real.

Carl Castillo69 said:I’m 20 and I’ve been dealing with this same crap for almost a month now. Like, say I wake up around 8:30, grab a bite, and head into town—everything feels fine until I’ve walked maybe a mile or two, then suddenly I feel like I’m gonna barf and my energy just hits zero. It’s a disgusting feeling. Then a few days later, I’ll hit the park to play some ball, do maybe two sprints, and boom—same thing happens, I’m totally wiped and sweating bullets. So I go see my doctor and she basically tells me it’s just stress. I mean, sure, I get stressed, but I’ve been stressed for over two years and I was fine until now. She gives me a referral for blood work, so I go in early the next morning, and of course, the same thing happens. I’m heading into the city after fasting for over 12 hours for the test and I just feel terrible—one second I’m okay, the next I’m fading fast. I eventually managed to get the blood drawn, crawled home, forced myself to eat something, and it took like five hours to actually feel human again. Fast forward a few days to when I go pick up the results, and again, I feel like garbage even though I haven't done anything besides drive my car. I didn't walk much and I felt better pretty quickly this time. The doctor says everything is "normal"—blood sugar, iron, whatever—but apparently, my lung capacity is slightly off or I have some kind of breathing allergy or something. She put me on these antihistamines, one pill a day, but I went to the park today and after two sprints, I was absolutely dead. What the hell is going on with me?!
I can barely even step foot outside my front door without feeling like absolute garbage, because honestly, if I try to walk too much or go for a run, everything just goes south immediately.

Man, I know that feeling all too well. It’s honestly the worst. By the way, how’s your blood pressure been lately?
I always keep some glucose tabs on me at all times. Seriously, try carrying them around so when you start feeling that weakness hit, you can just pop one and deal with it. Just make sure you have water on hand too. 😉

Grace Chase97 said:Honestly, stress can do some pretty gnarly stuff to your body. It actually happened to me—I was dealing with nausea and a low-grade fever that wouldn't quit. I don't know if you've dealt with that before, but man, you wouldn't believe how much stress can actually wreck you.

So how did you actually pull that off? 🙂 It’s honestly wild how much damage someone can do just by being completely unhinged.

Brian Patel4 said:Drew Jones26, how old are you even?
Look, this kind of stuff is totally normal during puberty, and honestly, it happens to some people throughout their teens too.
The blood pressure numbers you're listing are actually a bit lower than average, and when you combine that with your BP dropping whenever you stand up, it’s probably why you’re getting those mild dizzy spells.
When we jump up suddenly, our blood pressure dips before it spikes back up—we're talking a range of more than 20mmHg—and your heart rate jumps to compensate. It's just the body trying to stay balanced; nothing to stress about. Since you mentioned anxiety, you might just be hyper-focusing on it more than usual.
If you really are dealing with low iron, that would definitely explain the dizziness, the fatigue, and your heart racing.
Hope you figured out what's going on and that you're feeling better by now.

I'm 19.
Thanks for breaking it down for me 🙂
Still haven't figured it all out though.
They found I have chronic sinus inflammation on my X-ray, so on top of everything else, I get that heavy sinus pressure every time I stand up.
Plus, ever since the weather started changing, it's been hitting me way harder. Sometimes I just lose my balance for a second. 🤷
I even had an MRI done on my head and everything came back fine...
Based on what everyone's saying, I don't think it's anything life-threatening, but man, it is incredibly annoying. 👎
Visiting your primary care doctor in Health ·
You should probably check if there's a student doctor available in Cleveland.
For example, I'm studying over in St. Louis and they don't even have a student doctor here. 🙄
And honestly, when you actually get hit with something, you'll be glad you checked.
As for that pain you're feeling when you cough—if you ask me, it's just your muscles being trashed from coughing so much lately.
But seriously, it’d be a smart move to have a doctor actually listen to your lungs and give you a real exam. 😉
Good luck!

On Monday, I've got an ENT appointment for a full balance system check—middle ear stuff, etc. Honestly, I probably won't sleep easy until I'm 100% sure there isn't something serious going on in my head.

By the way, placidorca16, do you ever struggle with balance when it's dark or in low light?
When I say balance issues, I mean actual vertigo and being unable to stand on one leg, which is pretty much the standard balance test...

Jumping in here because I've definitely been there and I'm still dealing with it. No idea why, honestly. Who knows. I've seen neurologists (still waiting on an MRI), went to the ENT multiple times for all those tests, saw a physiatrist... and it turns out it might just be some labyrinth damage from an untreated infection, but I guess I won't know for sure until the MRI results come back...🤷
Good luck 😉
I really think everything is going to turn out fine for you too. 😉

Brian Patel4 said:Drew Jones26, just so we're clear, thrombocytopenia simply means a low platelet count. It’s a clinical finding, not an actual diagnosis of what's causing the issue.

Robert Jones6, I'm still waiting on you to post those CBC results: :držifigedabudesveok:

Look, I get that thrombocytopenia isn't a diagnosis itself... but it's pretty obvious there's a reason those platelets tanked from 90 down to 25.
I really hope they figure out what's driving this soon.
Good luck, man, keeping my fingers crossed for those labs. Let us know what they say. 😉

Samuel Cruz61 said:Sleep paralysis doesn't bother me all that much. It can get incredibly intense and terrifying—especially when I feel like I can't breathe or I start seeing some grotesque face staring back at me or even a tiny little gray alien 😬 but even then, I know what's actually happening. I know it isn't real.

However, there’s another issue that scares me more. Over the last year, a few times a month right as I'm drifting off, my brain just takes flight and everything is fine, until suddenly—BAM. I hit this massive wave of stress. It feels like a physical shock, almost as if someone slammed a giant frying pan into me or tried to jumpstart my heart with electric shocks. Sometimes I just wake up feeling fine, but other times my heart is racing at 234 BPM and I'm completely rattled, like I just narrowly dodged a runaway freight train.

Is this something dangerous, and should I go see a doctor?

Man, I've had those sudden jolts happen to me so many times.😁
Basically, right before you fall asleep, your body starts losing its muscle tone, which we experience as that feeling of losing balance or falling, so we jerk awake. It happens way more if you're sleep-deprived. Honestly, it shouldn't be anything dangerous; it's just a sign that you need to chill out, get some rest, and stop pushing yourself too hard 😉 and your heart is pounding because you're freaking out. Don't sweat it. 😉
