How to apply for a new Medicare card in Health ·
Post-call summary—The ID card was mailed out, but obviously got lost in the mail since they don't bother with certified shipping. They’re insisting it was sent, yet my employer hasn't seen a thing. Just my luck. 🙄 Now I have to wait another month for a replacement...

Thanks, I'll give them a call to figure out where things went sideways.
Until then, I guess I'll just carry this paperwork around with me...

@placidhound10 - They told us at the prenatal class that they test your blood type twice during pregnancy because of the Rh factor, and the last name on the lab results has to match your ID perfectly. If it doesn't, you have to head over to the local clinic to get it notarized, otherwise the hospital will give you a hard time at delivery. :-/

Angela Wright said:Just head down to the office where they submitted the request. Honestly, that copy of the confirmation should work just fine as an ID, so I don't see why you'd be having issues. Under the current system, unless you actually changed your name, your card stays the same—Medicare just updates the employer info on their end.

Yeah, I actually did change my last name.
When I visit my doctor, I still show them my old ID with the old name, and everything works fine—they pull up my records, write prescriptions, the whole bit. The nurse mentioned they’ll update the name once the new card arrives. 🙄
The only catch is that from now on, I'll have to use this paper instead of the old card, so they can look up the info under my current name and make sure everything matches up based on the document.

So, my employer filed the paperwork for my new health insurance card back in November 2012. It’s been six months now, and still nothing shows up in the mail.
Since I’m pregnant, I’m constantly needing referrals and medical paperwork. Here’s the headache: all my recent test results are under my maiden name, which doesn't match my current ID. I’ve already heard rumors that hospitals, like at the maternity ward, might reject a blood type report just because the names don't align perfectly. If that happens, I'll be stuck running around various government offices trying to get everything notarized and verified.

What’s the move here? Who should I call to actually get some answers? And honestly, how long did you all have to wait for your new cards? My patience is wearing thin...

Thanks for any help!

Hey everyone!

It looks like there’s a lot of great info floating around here.
We’re hosting a party in San Francisco for about 100 people. We've narrowed our restaurant options down to:
The Avengers
Vela
Benedict-South
South

I'd love to hear your recommendations or any experiences you've had with them! It seems like everyone raves about The Avengers, but I can't find much info on Vela, Benedict, or South...

Does anyone know how the process works if I get swabs done at a private clinic versus using a referral through my insurance?😕
Because of a bad Pap smear, my OBGYN told me I need to test for HPV and chlamydia.😢
She said I could get the swabs done right there with her office, but I’d need a referral from my primary care doctor first. I was honestly in such a state of shock that I didn't really process the logistics. Someone mentioned Rockefeller here—what am I supposed to go to Rockefeller for? The nurse mentioned something about test tubes? Where does that happen at Rockefeller? Which floor, who am I looking for? (Or should I be heading to Mercy Hospital instead of Rockefeller 😕?)
Also, once I get the referral, do I have to do the swabs that same day, or can I wait until tomorrow?
And once the swabs are taken, do they need to be dropped off at Rockefeller immediately?
Do they operate all day, or is this something that has to be handled in the morning?
Ladies, if you've been through this exact loop, please walk me through it!😕
Thanks🙂

I don't have any symptoms, my period is regular...
Still, I want to go for a gynecological check-up—just for prevention.

Can I just ask for an ovarian ultrasound? (I'm planning to see a private doctor, so I assume it works on a "pay for what you want" basis), rather than a full exam?

How can they even examine me if I'm a virgin?

Can they do a Pap smear? My boyfriend and I engage in regular oral sex, so I want to make sure I haven't picked up any bacteria or anything.

Of course you can request whatever you want—like a standard exam and an ultrasound.
(Since you're a virgin, the exam would be rectal.)
As for the Pap smear, I'm not sure if they can perform it on you. Maybe they can.
But if you're looking for bacteria, you need swabs; a Pap smear isn't designed to detect those.

You don't need a referral from your primary care doctor. General practitioners and specialists operate on totally different tracks.
Just head up to the fourth floor and prepare to test your patience. When someone walks out, catch the nurse and ask if you can switch over to their practice, then politely request that transfer form to open a new file. After that, it’s basically luck of the draw. You should probably plan on waiting a while, assuming they even decide to see you. Last year, my doctor told me they weren't taking new patients and turned me away entirely. I came back this year and barely managed to get in; she gave me this whole speech about how I wouldn't be happy there because the wait times are a nightmare and they're stretched too thin... but I wasn't having it! 😎

I just moved over to Dr. Miller’s practice and I’ve already had my first run-in with that sister 🙂

I doubt the doctor finds her charming either; maybe she could look into requesting a transfer 😉

I already got the confirmation, but in my current state of annoyance, I completely forgot to ask if I should head straight to the Social Security office with it, or if I need to swing by my old doctor's office first to grab my medical records before making that trip
(not sure if they actually want me to submit those files to the agency or not)

Hey everyone!
So, you're looking to switch gynecologists? It’s not exactly like changing your car insurance or picking a new plumber, though it can feel just as tedious. Essentially, there isn't some massive bureaucratic hurdle. If you're looking for a new doctor through your insurance provider, you usually just log into their portal, look at the list of providers in your network, and pick someone who looks decent. From there, you call the office, see if they're accepting new patients, and schedule an appointment. If you want to move your actual medical files—your history, test results, etc.—from your old doctor to the new one, that’s where the paperwork comes in. You’ll typically need to sign a release form at the new office so they can legally request your records from the previous one. Think of it like transferring your data to a new phone; it's doable, but you have to give permission first. It’s mostly just about finding someone you actually trust and making sure the billing side of things doesn't turn into a headache.
So, I just got a new prescription. Do I grab some random form and trek down to the local clinic? And if I do, am I supposed to lug my old medical records along with that form, or just the paper itself? Like, both? Man, this sounds like a headache. Anyone actually know how this works?😕
