Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Perhaps I missed it if this was already being discussed elsewhere,

Emmanuel Macron released a recording of his conversation with that absolute disgrace from The White House, occurring just four days before the invasion kicked off.

https://www.srf.ch/news/internationa...r-dem-krieg-ab

I haven't managed to track down the full transcript yet, but even the snippets currently circulating in the news media suggest, looking back now, that the individual in question was clearly suffering from some severe mental instability by late February—unless, of course, he is simply a notorious and shameless liar, which is also quite a possibility, isn't it?

There is a particularly absurd moment where he actually attempts to accuse Volodymyr Zelenskyy of trying to acquire nuclear weapons.

Jeremy Peterson4 said:White House: This war could wrap up by tonight if Zelenskyy just tells his troops to lay down their arms

The whole conflict in Ukraine could be over before the sun goes down—all it would take is for President Zelenskyy to order a surrender and for Kyiv to cave to everything Moscow wants. That’s the line coming straight from Dmitry Peskov, the White House spokesperson.

Where do they get this stuff? One day it's a "special operation," the next day it's a full-blown war... what's next?

Arthur Watson4 said:I have to admit, there's some undeniable logic to that.

There is just one tiny little problem....

What the hell are even Moscow's demands? 🤔

At what point in time were they ever actually articulated?

The geopolitics crowd is finally starting to stir, isn't it? I was actually just sitting here wondering what on earth happened to them—did they all suddenly lose their way, or perhaps just get themselves hopelessly lost somewhere along the road? ☕
New mod on Reddit is at war with anyone who disagrees in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Just give up, folks. Seriously, just walk away.

They’ll come crawling back to you with that same old hypocritical line about how you're "free to report any undeniable violation."

Maybe a few reports will stick, or perhaps someone sporting a Putin profile picture will face a penalty here or there, but let's be honest—it's all just for show. The real danger comes from those who have held a grudge against you since before he even became a moderator; they’ll be actively hunting you down and persecuting you, even in private messages where he technically doesn't hold any official authority.

The guy has been practically anointed by the "old guard," and since he clearly has far too much time on his hands, he keeps picking up moderator roles across more and more subreddits—he's the perfect candidate for this, isn't he? They certainly aren't going to remove him, and judging by how much he seems to relish this new power trip, there's no way he's going to step down on his own.

So, I say, just let it go. It simply isn't worth the effort or the blood pressure spike.

Bryan Booth82 said:It seems I’m not the only one getting this nagging sensation that the way this place is being moderated is drifting—perhaps slowly, perhaps inevitably—toward a strategy of outright provocation? It feels as though there is a concerted effort to penalize anyone who dares to step outside the boundaries of some preordained "filter bubble," a bubble that, if you ask me, feels suspiciously like it was commissioned by someone else entirely. Is it just my imagination, or are we witnessing a systematic attempt to silence those who refuse to march in lockstep with a manufactured consensus?🤔🤔

I’ll be the first to admit there isn't much new to report here, but I must say, the whole scene is quite different from what I had anticipated when I first decided to join this conversation.

If that’s truly the case, then fine—I can live with that. But wouldn't it be infinitely better if they could actually provide some concrete confirmation? I mean, if we could just strip away all those odd, inexplicable outliers that cloud the data, wouldn't we finally be left with something substantial? It would at least serve as some sort of validation, a glimmer of recognition for what has been achieved, don't you think?

I suppose I should probably get started on this, though why anyone would want to dive into such a dense thicket of speculation is quite beyond me, really. Is it even possible to grasp the sheer scale of what we're looking at here? One finds oneself wandering through these arguments like a traveler lost in a sprawling metropolitan park, trying to find a path that actually makes sense amidst all the noise. Does any of this truly hold water, or are we just spinning our wheels in the mud? It feels as if we are perpetually circling the same set of questions, isn't it? Perhaps there is more to uncover, but for now, I shall simply sit here and ponder whether we have even begun to scratch the surface of the reality before us.

I find it hard to believe that this forum has actually landed a sponsor in the way you’re implying, though I suppose there’s always room for speculation; however, the decision to appoint a new moderator over at PDF World is, quite frankly, a massive headache and incredibly problematic.

It’s quite something, isn't it, how we suddenly have a new moderator who has been lurking around the threads regarding Eastern Europe—you know, all the discussions involving Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus—for years now? One can't help but notice that he carries himself almost exactly like some official spokesperson for the Russian Federation embassy. He is always, invariably, the very first person to relay news straight from the Russian media outlets, ranging from the major mainstream giants down to the most obscure little corners of their press, and he does so with such an unmistakable, blatant bias toward Putin’s regime and his specific political agenda.

That isn't even a point of contention, is it? We live in a free country, after all, where everyone is entitled to their own perspective.

What’s even more troubling, if we’re being honest, is his utter intolerance toward anyone who dares to disagree with him. For years now, he’s made a habit of simply tossing anyone he finds disagreeable onto an ignore list, while casually dismissing them as nothing more than "clones," "democrats," or some other variation of a foreign operative. It’s quite a pattern, really. He even goes so far as to label any post that doesn't align with his worldview as mere "dumping" or "whining." Is there any room left for actual discourse when someone treats every dissenting opinion as a personal affront?

So, let me get this straight—someone like that actually gets handed the keys to the kingdom and granted moderator privileges over this specific thread, no more and no less?

Should he really be the one responding to reports filed against people he personally considers nothing more than democratic degenerates? Is that actually what we're calling "sound moderation" these days?

Take a look at this thread regarding the situation over in Russia; it’s essentially morphed into his own personal blog at this point. It seems like everyone who actually had a different opinion or wanted to offer a counterpoint has just quietly retreated, leaving him to shout into the void. Isn't it fascinating how quickly a discussion can turn into a monologue once the dissenters decide they aren't worth the effort?

Was that truly the intended goal? Was that what they were actually aiming for all along?

driftingtinker said:Man, it actually stung a bit more than I expected when I made that caricature of Alexei Navalny. I guess some haters would probably call me a hypocrite for even doing it.

Honestly, reading your posts sometimes feels like you need a specialized dictionary just to keep up; I mean, how is a newcomer supposed to immediately grasp who Bob is, or what "The Exceptional One" refers to, or the whole business regarding local folk ensembles and those tin bands—though I suppose even a novice could follow the "democrats" bit...

As for me, personally, it doesn't bother me one bit; in fact, I find it rather amusing at times.

But if you're going to take that stance, don't go throwing around accusations of hypocrisy, now, shall we?

driftingtinker said:I’m pretty much on board with what the veteran user said, and honestly, I’m ready to take whatever heat comes my way for acting out like that.

😢I guess I just got sucked into this lazy atmosphere where everyone's basically competing to see who can insult the Russian president the most crudely. Some people even go as far as calling the Pfizer vaccine "Putin-juice" or something equally ridiculous.

It won't happen again. This kind of trash talk definitely doesn't belong on a forum like this.
The moderators will have to decide whether that’s actually the case or not.
(Though, if I’m being honest, it looks like they’ve already made up their minds)

I just want to clarify one thing regarding that last point—the idea that I’m being "lumped in with Vojislav Šešelj" or that I’m somehow "standing on the same side as Vojislav Šešelj"... those two things aren't even remotely the same, let alone similar.

Surely, a man who prides himself so much on his impeccable logic and sheer intellect will grasp that distinction fairly quickly? Unless, of course, he’s too busy leaning into the unnecessary drama.

I won't bother addressing the rest of the complaint, as it concerns other forum members, but I must say, it isn't quite as it seems, despite what my esteemed colleague claims.

Best regards.

northernsailor8 said:I didn't interpret that post as calling anyone a fascist at all, rather as something toxic, yet legitimate poking, serving as a response to constant provocations. If someone actually goes around labeling another person in a debate as a fascist or anything of that nature, then naturally, they will face sanctions.

Perhaps we should take a moment to refresh our memories regarding the rules of this thread and the subforum (first post):

...is not permitted: Responding to an insult with an insult. Engaging in trolling or responding to a provocation with further provocation. Otherwise, all parties involved in such an exchange will be sanctioned, regardless of who initiated it.

and:

We won't be bothering you with warnings about avoiding biased language in discussions anymore, as it clearly isn't necessary given how many times this thread has been extended.

So, that specific post clearly violates several rules, yet according to you, it’s perfectly acceptable.

Maybe "Putinophile" is a term that some people find distasteful, but how on earth can it be classified as a "provocation"? It simply describes a person who likes Putin, a figure whose reputation is, if anything, quite polarized—or even largely viewed favorably by certain circles—rather than being purely negative. On the other hand, when one responds to that by saying, "well, if I'm a fan of Putin, then you must be a fan of fascists," you somehow qualify that as "toxic but legitimate poking." Honestly, what kind of bizarre, twisted criteria are we working with here?

And I truly struggle to understand how a single post mentioning the word "Putinophile" cannot be considered part of a "constant provocation," especially when it sits right at the end of a series of posts utilizing terms like "junta," "democrat," or "fascistophile"—terms which, I suppose, are perfectly fine since they haven't resulted in any sanctions, have they?

northernsailor8 said:I have to admit, this is actually the first time anyone has had the audacity to label me a Putinophile—which is quite rich, considering I’m staunchly pro-Western and find myself criticizing Russia on a regular basis—so it really just goes to show how far some of you have spiraled into your conspiracy theories. In that regard, you aren't any better than the opposing camp that treats Putin like some kind of demi-god.

To be perfectly honest, I would love nothing more than to ban the lot of you for almost every single thing you write, but there is simply no point in doing that, is there? Your constant propaganda and mindless shouting have already driven away anyone who actually attempted to contribute even a modicum of neutrality, and shutting down half the threads on this site would just be an exercise in futility.

The discussions regarding Russia and Syria have become, after much struggle and an exhausting number of bans, essentially a lost cause; in fact, this right here is probably the highest level of civil discourse we will ever see on these topics.

Now that I’ve laid that out, let me offer a little warning: don't push my buttons, because I might just decide to tighten the moderation criteria for real.

If I am interpreting the situation correctly, it seems that if someone dares to criticize Putin and his supporters, they just have to accept being branded a fascist by some lunatic on this forum, all while that person walks away completely unscathed (post is still sitting there, untouched). If you report a comment like that, you're basically just risking a strike against yourself, especially if the moderator happens to be feeling particularly sensitive.

I'm sorry, but it really isn't any mystery why everyone capable of decent communication has been chased off these threads, leaving behind nothing but the exact crowd we see now.

Zachary Torres81 said:Perhaps he just caught sight of your previous post—which has since been scrubbed, mind you—where you claimed a pack of Putinophiles had chased off all the sensible people, leading him to crank up the melodrama to full throttle in some desperate hope that a moderator might swoop in to thin out that unruly crowd of raging Putinophiles?🤔

Don't lose any sleep over it; this isn't the first time that particular user has played that exact card, and I can assure you, it isn't going to lead him anywhere at all.
And frankly, why should it? To my mind, a healthy diversity of perspectives is actually quite welcome on a forum like this.👍 It’s what makes the discussions engaging and keeps things from becoming stagnant.

What I find tedious—and please understand, it isn't an insult, it's simply uninspired and dull—is this habit of slapping uncreative labels like "Putinophile" onto anyone who doesn't share your view.
The same goes for terms like "fascist-wannabe" or "fascist-lover" and the rest of that tired vocabulary.

If you truly feel compelled to believe that every single dissenter is part of one massive, unified front against You...

then even using the word pack is almost generous, if not a step up from calling them a herd or a flock.😬

I would like to kindly request that we don't cloud the issue or drift away from the actual topic into those typical, predictable bickering matches.
When I originally opened this thread, I wasn't interested in picking sides or joining a factional skirmish.
My question was specifically directed toward a certain post, one where dissenters are more or less branded as fans of fascists; a post that is not only distorted and offensive, but feels genuinely malicious in its intent.
I could easily follow suit, as both of you have, by digging through that user's past contributions to highlight his pervasive tone of condescending, pseudo-argumentative posturing, but I won't. I would truly appreciate it if the moderation team could explain why posts of that nature aren't being addressed. It seems there is a blind spot somewhere that I am clearly missing.

So, here we are, nearly two full days after the initial filing, and I find myself staring at this absolutely disgraceful situation once again. Can you actually believe the sheer audacity of it? It’s almost impressive, in a deeply unsettling sort of way, how things can spiral like this when people just refuse to follow the basic rules of engagement. Is it really too much to ask for a little bit of order? Honestly, it feels like we're just circling the drain at this point. post It remains unchanged.
Could someone please clarify things for me? I find myself wondering whether that particular post and the subsequent report to the moderators simply slipped through the cracks, or if the moderation team genuinely sees nothing wrong with this user’s logic—specifically, the idea that anyone who doesn't support Putin, or rather "the other side" (whoever that may be), is somehow some kind of fascist-lover? And what would that even mean, really? To be an enthusiast of fascism? It seems quite a leap, wouldn't you agree?
Thanks.
Reported two posts but no one's responding in Feedback & Suggestions ·
This whole topic is an absolute mess. It’s being completely hijacked by a handful of dedicated little pro-Russian zealots—I won't name names, though they’ve certainly made themselves known right here—who seem to obsess over this day and night as if they don't have anything better to do with their lives. Occasionally, you might see some naive soul wander into the fray, someone who actually reads the arguments and dares to ask the group to use a shred of common sense, only to be immediately and ruthlessly shut down by the majority. And heaven forbid you try to hold your ground; the moment you show any persistence, they instantly brand you a paid operative for the American Embassy.
The reality is that most people couldn't care less about Ukraine, which explains why the atmosphere surrounding this discussion is so toxic. Why would anyone bother wrestling with a pack of fanatics driven by whatever inscrutable motives they possess? (I have my suspicions about their goals, but I'll leave those unsaid for now.) It is truly a shame, however, that the moderators seem to have completely checked out on this thread, leaving the public consensus to be shaped by media outlets that are essentially functioning at the level of a cheap joke or Joseph Goebbels in his prime.
