Dell Alienware or HP Omen? in Laptops ·
Hey everyone...
I’m in the market for a new gaming laptop, and honestly, I'm feeling pretty stuck.
I’ve narrowed my search down to two options that really caught my eye:
Alienware m15

or

Dell Alienware m17

On paper, they’re remarkably similar—Core i7 processor, 17-inch display, 8GB of RAM, a mix of HDD and SSD storage, and the price points are in the same ballpark. The only real toss-up is the GPU, sitting somewhere between a 1050 and a 1050ti.

Historically, I’ve always been an HP guy, but I’m seriously considering switching over to this Dell. I just can't decide which would serve me better. Does anyone here have any real-world experience with the Alienware line? Or maybe some feedback on the Omen series? Do they actually live up to the premium price tag and all that flashy marketing?
One more thing—does it really matter if I go with a Core i7, or would a Core i5 suffice? I’m looking at this being my daily driver for at least the next four or five years.
Thanks.
Hey there...
I'm looking to pick up a new PC for gaming and some graphic design work (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), so I've been scanning the market to see what's out there.
I considered building one myself, but honestly, looking at what's available within my budget—roughly a few thousand dollars—this particular setup caught my eye.$2500

• Processor: Intel Core i5 4460 3.20GHz (6MB cache) Haswell
• Motherboard: Asrock H81M-DG4
• RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (expandable to 16GB)
• Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX960 SSC 2GB GDDR5
• Storage: 120GB SSD + 1TB SATA
• Optical Drive: DVDRW DL
• Network Card: Yes (Gb LAN)
• Ports: D-Sub, DVI-D, 4x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0
• Case: Tower
• Power Supply: 550W 80+
• Operating System: FreeDOS
• Dimensions: 493 x 215 x 426mm
• Warranty: 24/60 months

To be perfectly honest, I'm a bit out of my depth here. Does this look alright to you guys? Is this actually a decent machine, or should I be swapping out certain parts? Or is the whole thing just a bad idea? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
