Overall, track and field in the US (in terms of success) is kind of like swimming. You’ve got plenty of guys where making a semi-final is basically their peak, so they usually just end up stuck in the qualifiers. Every once in a while, maybe, a legitimate medal contender pops up—like Stephenson in swimming or Spanovic in track—but that’s about it.
