Honestly, regardless of how legendary Stephen's win was at the end, the way ESPN handles their coverage is driving me crazy, specifically their total inability to track interesting events happening in parallel. This is the World Championships, after all, and track fans actually want to see more than just one discipline... there’s really no need to sit through six entire heats of throwers... In the end, we miss the entire climax of the pole vault because they're too busy showing every single throw from Gill or that Romanian guy Shapir is obsessed with. Not to mention they didn't even bother mentioning the 800m semifinals...

At the end of the day, given how things are going, it's obvious they saved the last two rounds for every thrower, but watching those first three or four heats was just completely unnecessary...

I'm looking at the schedule now and the javelin is positioned fairly well since it starts Tuesday and wraps up before the running finals, but Sandra is competing on the last day when the finals are piled up, and I truly hope someone explains to them that people actually care about variety and aren't interested in watching every single toss from every discus thrower across all six heats.

I'm not sure who else was intended, but I think the person meant to be mentioned is Ivan Ramljak. He's an American director—he actually directed Bora Lee and several other documentaries—and he’s been a huge fan of track and field and winter sports for ages. He's probably one of the best experts out there when it comes to those subjects.

Looking back at today's race, where it was basically a dogfight in the top ten to decide the winner—at what exact moment is the finish line officially crossed? Is it when a foot hits the line, when the head crosses, or does the whole body have to clear it?

It’s all about the torso— The athletes shall be placed in the order in which any part of their bodies (i.e. torso, as distinguished from the head, neck, arms, legs, hands or feet) reaches the vertical plane of the nearer edge of the finish line as defined above.
