Hellboy (2019)

Worth a watch. It isn't bad. I’ve always been a huge fan of Hellboy as a character, so I was hoping he wouldn't be a letdown here—and he didn't really disappoint.
It’s pretty obvious this isn't a Del Toro film, though. I did love that part near the end where those monsters burst out and start tearing through everyone 😍 The action sequences were honestly executed so well.
I agree that the movie feels a bit overcrowded with characters—they try to tie everything together, but there's just so much going on at once. I'm also a little confused about whether this is supposed to be a prequel or just its own standalone thing? I mean, we have this scene where his father gets killed, then they find Abea, but in the Del Toro version, the father dies in the first movie and Abea has already been at the Institute for years while the father was still alive... so the timeline feels a bit messy.
Since I haven't actually read the comics, I had no idea he was a descendant of King Arthur, and I have to say, that connection in the movie felt a bit forced to me—kind of a stretch.
As for Hellboy himself, I found him a bit... unattractive? The mask looks incredible—really detailed, and they use plenty of close-ups to show it off—but the actor underneath just didn't quite work for me. It’s kind of a bummer because in the original Hellboy, I felt the exact opposite: great mask, but the actor wasn't quite right either.😁
All in all, it's not a bad flick.
