Look, those crappy Black Knights showings at smaller games during those years happened plenty of times. The reason is dead simple—people just didn't get the culture yet. Real shifts in the group, things you could actually see on the stands, happened in two big waves: first, between 2003 and 2005 when people finally started waking up (that famous Torcidin flyer era), and then the massive expansion and surge in numbers, especially during the 2008/09 season and part of 2006/07.
