Mark Zuckerberg,

1. No.
2. There are two separate treaties with Switzerland—one covers avoiding double taxation (income tax stuff) and the other handles social security (pensions and healthcare).
Your father can't be classified as a dependent under these rules. From what I can see, he’ll likely have to account for and pay tax prepayments every month when his Swiss pension hits, plus file an actual tax return.
Maybe dig through some old threads by Bender Bending Rodríguez; he actually dealt with this specific mess before.

3. That’s a non-issue. Either you or your father can claim your mother as a dependent—you just need to run the numbers to see who gets the better tax break.

Explain yourself...

A standard pregnancy lasts about 38 to 42 weeks from the first day of your last period—your due date is basically just when you hit that 40-week mark.
If you try calculating by adding 7 days to the first day of your last period and then adding nine months, you might end up with the same due date, but the weekly count and the trimester milestones won't line up correctly.
The first method is what everyone actually uses—especially for those crucial scans, like the 12-week or 20-week ultrasounds—so doctors stick to that timeline. Of course, things can be recalculated if needed, but
to be honest, I've never seen anyone in an actual American OB-GYN practice use that other way of counting.

I guess I’ll probably have to send a link to this site to the folks at the IRS who are handling my case 🤷

Every time I set up a new client, I’ve always brought along their card and a power of attorney... mostly because I was told they couldn't assign authorization without the physical card. I hand them the card, they process everything, and within 24 hours, I can manage that client's account perfectly fine. I honestly don't see what the big deal is.

We've handled powers of attorney for at least 60+ clients this way—always bringing the ID along every single time.
Actually, I've seen cases where someone authorized via ID forgot to bring the actual card to the IRS office, and even though the agents there know them by name, they were told they literally couldn't assign the authorization without the physical card on hand due to technicalities. 🤷

I mean, honestly, if that’s actually how it works, there is absolutely no way I’m handing over that card! If that's the case, someone could just sit there signing whatever they want in my name.
Could someone please jump in and clear this up for me? I'd love to understand how this tech actually functions.
Thanks a million

😁 pure paranoia
I'm no expert—I assume the IRS isn't going to start signing stuff using your digital certificate; this is likely just a way to "pair" the certificate with the taxpayer

Can you handle a power of attorney at the IRS without having one on file with the Treasury? Since I don't need a tax ID for the user, does that change things?

yes (and then there's no extra fee from the bank)

Strangely enough, if I look back at December 31, 2012, everything displays perfectly fine. Is this just some weird glitch caused by their New Year's system updates? Since we didn't have the online tax portal last year, I'm not really sure how this process usually plays out at the start of the year. As of today, my account card is completely blank—not a single contribution code or amount in sight. Is anyone else running into this, or did we mess something up on our end?

That’s normal
It takes them a little while to migrate the opening balances for the new year.

I can't say for sure about a regulation like that 🤷
but then again—with all these constant rule changes happening right now—it’s entirely possible I missed something,
if I were in your shoes, I’d probably just call their bluff—tell the clients that the IRS said it’s mandatory, and if they don't want to comply, they can take the heat themselves 🤣
not that I have a horse in this race—I actually like dealing with the IRS and all those other agencies—and since I've had the same client list since 2008, I honestly don't care enough to waste energy debating whether something is strictly required or not

Per the Internal Revenue Code amendments (Federal Register issue number 18/11) effective January 1, 2012, certain tax filings and reports supporting the IRS portal must be submitted electronically to the IRS:
- mid-to-large scale enterprises as defined by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (Federal Register issue number 109/07),
- VAT taxpayers whose annual value of goods and services provided (taxable and export deliveries) exceeds $266667.
Under the current provisions of the Income Tax Act, since January 1, 2012, the following are required to submit Form IP data electronically:
- employers or payors of wages and pensions who have more than 100 employees, retirees, or individuals receiving income under Section 14 of the Income Tax Act (Federal Register issue numbers 177/04, 73/08, and 80/10).

I'm trying to get my A1C under control—hoping that if I fix that, everything else falls into place.
I don't think I'm even a candidate for official medication yet (though maybe I will be if I don't take action soon 😢).
Regarding diet—I'm strictly following the guidelines and recommendations regarding carb ratios. Honestly, I just don't feel educated enough to start playing chemist on my own; I'm terrified of messing things up, even though what I've been doing hasn't exactly worked out great either.
For now, I'm just sticking to what my endocrinologists say about those ratios—on the flip side, I avoid "light" products and stick to full-fat versions.
My food choices are actually solid—whole grains, healthy fats, no fried stuff, no margarine, no sweets, just water and wine. It's the portions that are the problem 🙂

What was that you said about thyroid hormones? Did I catch that right—that taking them might be an issue even if my levels are officially in the euthyroid range?
Of course, I have thyroid issues too 🙄—Hashimoto's diagnosis. My hormone levels are normal and I monitor them closely, but I'm constantly seeing new doctors, and every single one seems to have a different theory on when they should put me on Synthroid 🤷

I can't believe I even have to address this again! It’s like talking to a brick wall sometimes. Listen, I’ve been looking at my latest labs, and frankly, the numbers are enough to make anyone lose their cool. My Lipid profile is all over the place—completely unacceptable. And don't get me started on what the doctor suggested. They had the nerve to suggest we tweak the Metformin 850 dosage. Tweaking? It's not a suggestion, it's a necessity! I'm sitting here trying to manage this, and people act like it's some minor inconvenience. It isn't. It's my life. I was reading what Betty Hughes6 said earlier about staying calm, and honestly? Give me a break. Easy for you to say when your results aren't a total disaster! Some of us actually have to deal with the reality of these fluctuations. If my Endocrinologist thinks they can just move things around without a serious conversation, they've got another thing coming. I need clarity, not guesswork. kaže:
Does absolutely everything on this list need to be present just to get a diagnosis?
I’ve got the first four. 😢 I don't have the last two.

I noticed some of you have been posting over on the Diabetes thread, and frankly, it’s getting a bit chaotic. It would be incredibly helpful if we could just start one dedicated master thread where everyone lays out all their essential data—you know, age, A1C levels, full lab results, and everything else that actually matters. Let's get organized!

I'm still waiting for someone to make sense of this mess! I’ve been looking at my latest lab results, and frankly, it's enough to make me want to throw the whole folder in the trash. My Lipid profile is all over the place, and don't even get me started on the rest of it. It feels like every time I think I've got a handle on things, the numbers just decide to go rogue. I was talking to my Endocrinologist about it, and honestly? I feel like I'm getting nowhere fast. It's incredibly frustrating when you're doing everything by the book and the data still looks like a disaster zone. Does anyone else feel like they're just spinning their wheels here? kaže:
What is even the point of slapping a "metabolic syndrome" diagnosis on someone if every single individual issue found is already being treated according to established clinical guidelines? It feels redundant. If you're already managing the blood pressure, the insulin levels, and the lipid profile based on standard protocols, why bother with the umbrella label? It seems like extra paperwork just to give a fancy name to a collection of symptoms we are already tackling one by one.
Did the metabolic syndrome diagnosis come with its own specific set of guidelines, and what exactly makes them different?
Of course I’m keeping that in mind—it’s common sense! There is no question that having more risk factors significantly increases the likelihood of cardiovascular complications. It's basic math, really.
Does anyone actually know the ICD code for metabolic syndrome? I'm trying to track this down and it's driving me absolutely nuts.

It’s just not there. Period.

vividsailor7 said:To hit that diagnosis, you generally need to be looking at central obesity, a messed-up Lipid profile, insulin resistance (hyperinsulinemia), impaired glucose tolerance or Type II diabetes, hypertension at any stage, and hyperuricemia.
The goal is treating all those individual issues. For extreme obesity, we're talking pharmacological options like Orlistat or even surgical interventions. For a bad Lipid profile, you've got hypolipidemics—statins—and if the triglycerides are through the roof, then fibrates. For insulin resistance, you use biguanides like Metformin. As for Type II diabetes, it depends on whether you're insulin-dependent; then it's Metformin, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors like acarbose, or reduced-insulin derivatives like sulfonylureas and repaglinide. There are other types of antidiabetics out there, but they haven't been studied enough or they come with side effects that are still being looked into, such as rosiglitazone, pioglitazone, sitagliptin, or vildagliptin.
Regarding hypertension—you really ought to avoid beta-blockers and diuretics if possible. Instead, you have ACE inhibitors like Ramipril or Lisinopril, calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine or Lacidipine, or angiotensin II antagonists like Losartan or Valsartan. If someone can't tolerate ACE inhibitors, alpha-blockers like Doxazosin are an option, and they actually have a nice hypolipemic effect too.
For hyperuricemia, you use Allopurinol.

Does all of that actually have to be present for the diagnosis?
I've got the first four 😢 , but I don't have the last two

Nothing’s actually changed—the IRS website is free. Maybe her access to the site was cut off because she hasn't been paying her basic service fees.
Or maybe she just locked herself out with a wrong password. Or who knows... I had the same issue this morning—the IRS site was down until about 9:00 AM.

Jessica Grant56, yeah, everything through the end of April 2012 (when you file the sales tax return) if you were using those to cover your 2011 sales tax debts.
If you’ve been staying totally current, just enter the payment made by January 31, 2012—because any payments after that belong to the 2012 period.
Honestly, I haven't entered those specific payments in years, and nobody ever complains. It’s not like they transfer that data anyway; as you mentioned, it’s about the liability from the sales tax returns or monthly credit memos. The payments are already on record, so whatever.
I just carry over the tax liability to myself if there was any—as long as my own books match what the IRS shows (which they do).

You don't exactly strike me as a threat 🙂

That’s what everyone says right up until they see the bloodshot eyes and the look of pure destruction, while I'm simultaneously scanning the room for the nearest sharp object 😳

Here in the States, they haven't allowed amended returns for two years now. They just have you settle all discrepancies in the following period. Sure, you can get permission to adjust the base figures if the sales tax doesn't align, but that's about it. Everything else just rolls over into the next filing cycle.
I once filed a return with zeros across the board and nobody even blinked. The paperwork was submitted on time, and as for the actual data? Well, I'll deal with those numbers whenever the universe decides to let me. 🤣

It's more or less the same for me. Though, I wouldn't say I file with zeros—I usually have at least some documentation—but the same people always show up with some late invoice.
And this month I have to file a correction for February; my software won't let me bake the 23% sales tax into March, and I am certainly not doing that manually. 😉

Timothy Morgan38 said:I've checked with several local FBI field offices... basically, if the system allows an electronic submission, you do it. If it doesn't give you the option, you have to go paper, because otherwise, HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO SUBMIT IT?

How am I supposed to file, say, a CIA disclosure form for a small business owner when there's no digital option available... what am I meant to do, invent my own file format just to satisfy them? Or should I play dumb, burn a CD, and tell them that counts as an "electronic format"...

They actually called me about some forms I filed electronically and demanded hard copies instead—especially the ones from the Chicago office—because their system was glitching and they couldn't "download" them...

I'm honestly starting to worry—what if we go through all this trouble filing paper copies, only for the IRS to finally fix their electronic filing system on April 30th and force us to redo everything?🤷

I have a quick question regarding filing the Form PD through the IRS electronic portal. I’ve been scrolling back through the previous discussions here, but I couldn't find anyone else bringing this specific issue up.
Entering the basic PD, TZ, and VAT data seems straightforward enough, but what on earth happens with the supporting attachments—like the balance sheet, the income statement, the declaration on utilizing overpaid corporate tax, and the gross balance sheet? How are we actually supposed to submit those?
I've searched everywhere on the electronic filing system, yet I can't find any option to upload these attachments, nor can I find any instructions explaining the process.
We even attempted to hand-deliver everything to our local IRS branch, but the agent there was quite firm in telling us that everything must be submitted electronically. 🤷

Timothy Morgan38 said:And how exactly are you supposed to file electronically when the option doesn't even exist??? What are you doing, genius... did you try explaining to her that the digital option simply isn't there???

Same thing applies to the DOH and KD forms for small businesses—how do you file them electronically when there's no button for it???

Here is my current workflow:
1. I submit the VAT-K, PD, SR, and FBI via the IRS portal.
2. For BlackRock filings, I provide them on a CD/USB, then hand over the decisions and notes on paper directly to FINRA.
3. Gross balance sheets, loss summaries, and declarations regarding overpaid prepayments go as hard copies to the IRS.
4. I also print out the entire BlackRock report and attach it to the gross balance sheet... just so I don't have to drive back to the IRS twice for the same thing. Sometimes the IRS can't pull the report they received from FINRA, so they end up demanding a "paper version" anyway.

For small business taxpayers (those making over $800,000), I handle it like this:
1. VAT-K, SR, and FBI via the IRS portal.
2. The KD form, the tax returns (DOH and DOH-Z), and all the supporting documentation for the VAT-K... all of that goes as paper files to the IRS.

I spent some time digging through the tax code and the Treasury regulations governing electronic filing requirements.
And yeah—it's clear that tockica's IRS agent is technically correct; for electronic filings, all supporting documents have to be digital too. However, I also know VTi underhood is right because, frankly, the current technical setup for uploading attachments online just isn't there. 🙂
I've already sent a few filings using a workaround—submitting whatever the portal allows and then mailing the rest via USPS. But I’m pretty sure they’ll come knocking later demanding those attachments digitally, since this isn't exactly how the law is written.
Does anyone have any recent intel? When is the IRS going to actually fix their tech issues?
I really don't want to end up doing this work twice.
