Keith Miller30 said:In theory, a mosquito could actually drive you out of your own house. You head into the living room only to find "Mirko" the mosquito waiting for you, so where do you go then?

Any real pro would just download one of those mosquito repellent apps and call it a day.

theoretically.

brightpilot6 said:Well, isn't it perfectly natural for us to feel this way about dogs and cats, considering we've shared our homes with them for thousands of years? Besides, the more complex and large an organism is, the more weight its life seems to carry, doesn't it? It makes us naturally more sensitive to the loss of such life.

Most people don't go out of their way to kill cockroaches or mosquitoes just for the hell of it; they do it because those things pose a genuine health risk.

If I ever saw someone actually taking pleasure in crushing a mosquito, I'd probably have to conclude they were a complete idiot.

Most people just kill cockroaches because they're gross, and mosquitoes because they're annoying. Honestly.

Ashley Martinez6 said:The real point here is that if you ate chicken for dinner and then stepped on a cockroach thinking nothing of it, the public wouldn't give you a second glance. But if you were to kill a dog, that’s when the backlash hits... and that’s really where the line is drawn.

I’m not talking about basic human impulses or a twisted psyche here, of course. Naturally, I am completely against killing animals for sport, or out of boredom, or whatever other senseless reason one might have...

True, since dogs are cuter than roaches. But honestly, it's not even about the public outcry. I won't even swat a mosquito because I don't feel like taking a life just because it's buzzing in my ear and keeping me up. I'm not that important, and my sleep isn't either.

nah 🤣
I mean those moments when it’s just being annoying and buzzing right in your ear. Like, what am I supposed to do? Grab a pillow and move to the living room, I guess. 😁

Ashley Martinez6 said:Animal lovers 🙏

this guy used to go out of his way to dodge dogs and cats on the street 🙏🙏

but did it ever cross his mind to watch out for butterflies, beetles, fleas, mosquitoes, or even birds... 🙏🙏

while descending that steep cliff, he ended up crushing a few hundred creatures along the way 🙏🙏

he was telling a friend, over a dinner of roasted lamb, all about that absolute monster from the Honda 🙏🙏

I don't kill anything. I eat meat, sure, but I don't kill. Not perfect, yeah, I'm a weakling. But if a mosquito wakes me up in the middle of the night, I just move to a different room. Baby steps, man. Even if you think that's hypocritical, hey, at least I'm doing something right.

do you really think someone shouldn't give a damn about non-human life just because they're a carnivore? Like, since you had chicken for lunch, does that mean you can just squash a bug later because "whatever, I eat meat anyway"?

Yeah, I'm with you. You can't really have something like "official" 7 Wonders of the World or "officially" five most beautiful animals. The word "official" doesn't belong there.

Not so sure about Pluto, though. Pretty sure it isn't.

Walter Grant5 said:You don't agree?

Dunno. First, we gotta define what "official service" even means.

I’m with you—unless someone actually owned those animals, this isn't for the courts. This is more like street justice, haha. ☕

Seinfeld is top tier, a total classic for a reason, but Curb Your Enthusiasm hits different for me. It’s like the natural evolution of the genre. Same DNA, just way less restricted by format. Between the two, Curb is the one that really masters being about nothing. Plus, Larry David’s character belongs right up there with George in the pantheon of all-time great TV characters.

Honestly, this was probably the best comedy I've seen in a minute http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3416742/?ref_=nv_sr_1

They tried to sell us a load of crap, and I felt it right in my gut. ☕

We'll end up in a ditch eventually, I guess.

Keith Miller30 said:What does any of that have to do with God? As a believer myself, I don't necessarily view us as some uniquely privileged species. If we're being honest and look at the Bible, wouldn't you say it actually suggests the opposite—take Ezekiel’s visions, for instance, which many interpret as descriptions of extraterrestrial encounters? No one is really claiming we are a singular, special case.

I only asked because I find it a bit exhausting when everyone falls back on that same old cliché—the idea that because the universe is so unimaginably vast, there simply must be someone else out there. While there is certainly logic to that thought, I was merely curious if you had anything more substantial to add to the conversation.

Personally, I find myself much more preoccupied with the nature of these visitors: would they be peaceful neighbors or something more predatory, how advanced might their technology truly be, and is there a chance they might attempt to subjugate us?

What was Ezekiel like?

Peter Thompson4 said:And there goes another terrible analogy. What are you even talking about with aliens?
People just start making up this absolute nonsense whenever they don't have a real answer, and honestly, watching the same tired tropes being recycled over and over is just freaking hilarious 👍
plus this whole new damn 🙏 I'm not going to waste my breath trying to educate you 🤣 🤣 hahahahah

If you actually had a single coherent argument to keep this conversation going, I bet you’d be bragging about it here for three pages straight, so please, stop trying to sell me that garbage.
Besides, you already missed the mark from the jump because I never mentioned some alien invasion or anything like that; I was just saying that reading Von Daniken was what first got my gears turning on the subject. I wasn't using him as an example of relativity or whatever else you're tripping on, he was just my starting point for thinking about the topic.

Honestly, part of me wishes I were some kind of alien experiment just so they’d finally show themselves, but hey, life sucks and nothing's happening.

For God's sake, just quote "I wish I were some alien experiment" already.

Jessica Gonzalez said:It’s not like movies put food on your table or anything. I guess most films are basically just a way to kill some free time. They help you unwind, and maybe—just maybe—you pick up something useful here and there, but at the end of the day, it’s all just entertainment. I suppose art in general is pretty much that—kind of like a nice little extra in an otherwise busy life. But honestly, it would be pretty wild if I started judging you just because you haven't seen Goodfellas.

They feed the mind, too. You could argue anything is "just entertainment" if you look hard enough; names don't really matter. Art can actually be incredibly useful. Creating it or consuming it can teach you huge lessons about yourself and the world, much like philosophy, science, or religion does. Anything rooted in the "spirit" is just a little extra flavor for an otherwise heavy life. So, yeah, I guess you could put it that way.

Typical PBS documentary crowd. I'm currently watching Planet Earth.
