not even sure what to say to that. you basically just ignored my whole post 😂

living in San Diego here. where do you even live, man? all you see are old cats? 😂
more people get hit by cars daily than cats, period.
and saying a cat dies from being poisoned is somehow against "cat logic"? if you ate a Big Mac and died because someone slipped poison in it, would that make you stupid? 😂
starving isn't just a thing for certain animals either. what, stray dogs don't die of hunger? do strays not starve, just cats? 🙏

Ashley Bailey6 said:You're leaning too hard on philosophy instead of sticking to the facts.

Why would you even think that given the first point?
They exist for us. They created a dependency on humans and moved away from the wild. Dogs embraced that role perfectly.
Cats are more like parasites—exactly what we fight against at every level.
And they aren't even aware that we recognize them as vastly inferior.

I wasn't actually comparing raw intelligence.
I meant that all those neurons are useless if a dog ends up being more capable of intelligent functions by the end of the day.
More intelligent within our world, where both animals are just guests.

How many dead dogs do you see on the street compared to cats?

How long can a cat use its intelligence to survive as a loner?
And how long does a dumb dog live in someone's house? Who comes out ahead in terms of total intelligence?

Why am I disparaging the sense of smell?
Because it's a core component of overall intelligence.

It's like if I were to disparage a cat's whiskers; some people just act superior.

p.s. You're arguing immaturely and condescendingly without any actual substance.

That only applies to those dumb dogs we basically captured and put to work like slaves. Cats chose us because we had extra stuff lying around, and they figured out a tactic to charm us by catching mice and other pests. They played us.

You weren't comparing intelligence, you just said a dog is more capable of intelligent functions? 😂
And you still haven't explained how predicting epilepsy is an "intelligent function" when it’s just a dog using its nose because you trained it to be a tool. The dog doesn't know what epilepsy is. You're tripping if you think the dog uses its nose to recognize a seizure. It's not like that. The human uses the dog's nose to recognize the seizure.

Besides, where am I gonna find stray dogs? This isn't some rural village.
More people die daily in a city like Chicago than cats die on the streets (relative to their populations). Does that mean a cat is smarter than a human?

I don't get the question. A sheltered cat lives just as long as a sheltered dog. But a stray cat definitely has a better shot at surviving than a stray dog. Most dogs couldn't even figure out how to get into a trash can to eat.

Don't get why I'm "downplaying" smell by calling it a sense rather than intelligence. I've never heard anyone say, "Wow, you're so smart because you have great vision or hearing."

Ashley Bailey6 said:Yeah. Useful to an intellectually superior society.
That’s why we have domestic dogs and cats—they exist for us.

And you still don't get why you're dismissing the sense of smell.

Same goes for living with a dog, except somehow people actually know how to handle them.
If training a dog requires authority, then raising a child is just as much about discipline.

Dogs can actually bond emotionally with their owners. Cats just act out of pure self-interest.
Choosing who I want by my side isn't a hard decision.

lol, second life, self-sufficient, unique, one-of-a-kind, exists just for us 😂
maybe we exist for them, ever thought about that? 😂

haha, downplaying smell? what's there to downplay, I don't get it.
just curious what correlation you see between smelling stuff and being smart. is a dog smarter than a cat just because you used basic conditioning to teach it to bark when it catches a scent? 🙏

useful in someone else's circle?
what a joke lol

and what's the link between a sharp sense of smell and memory? 😕

good nose + basic conditioning = smarts😂

Turns out cat brains are actually way more wired for heavy lifting than dog brains. They’re packing about 300 million neurons in that cerebral cortex, while dogs only hit around 160 million.

Yeah, obviously. Like that whole thing about the gene being dormant.
Besides, they didn't even run the study on Messi—just because he's left-footed doesn't mean he's got that gene.

restlesssurfer97 said:Nah, not really. I’m actually a huge fan of tech breakthroughs, I’m all about physics, and honestly, math is basically my playground.

But here’s the thing... since religion doesn't have these rigid "scientific foundations," does that just mean it's irrelevant or something? Just because there isn't a "scientific explanation" for everything, does it just vanish? Isn't that a bit hypocritical if you think about it?

Look, I'm just sitting here saying that God created the wormhole and keeps it running.

restlesssurfer97 said:Look, I actually asked you something here. ☕

Hypocritical how? It’s not failing to exist, it’s failing at science. Is it hypocritical that a woman can't compete in the men's bracket at the US Open just because she lacks the hardware? Or is it just that religion doesn't use the scientific method?

And what are you even trying to explain with your hypothesis? These scientists you're critiquing with your wormhole theory are trying to figure out what black holes actually are and how they work. If they're right, they actually explain things and help us understand the world. If you're right, we still don't know anything about black holes. Science looks for the "how," while religion goes for the "why." Honestly, those scientists' wormhole theories aren't even clashing with yours; both could be true at once.

I was reading through this free translation of the 'Annals of Physics' journal and man, it really hits the nail on the head with the title, because honestly, calling it 'Anal Physics' 🙏🙏
feels pretty damn fitting if you think about it.

Wait, what's the issue?
It's theoretical (astro)physics—the thin line between what we know and what we don't. You can't escape philosophy here; it’s basically required for any science to move forward. So, what's your beef with them putting together a hypothesis like this? Where exactly do you think the scientific method is failing?
I'm with Keith Miller30 on this one.

Larry Fox5 said:Well, yeah, it's a necessity—because honestly, the odds of us even making it this far without it are basically zero.

Believing in some kind of higher power—anything beyond what we can touch or measure with basic science—is just hardwired into being human.

Something is "necessary" when there’s no real alternative, not just when options are slim.

Plus, believing in something doesn't actually prove that thing exists.

And let's be real: even if something is "beyond," we still process it through our own biological hardware. Makes arguing about what lies outside the physical realm pretty much impossible.

There are people who don't believe in transcendence, but you'd still need some real-world example to explain what you mean. Are dreams transcendent? What about love?

Keith Miller30 said:In theory, if science were to provide proof of God, I think I would find it rather disappointing; though, honestly, I don't believe such proof is even necessary, given that faith is fundamentally about belief. Wouldn't it be a bit disheartening to discover that God is something so elementary that it could be captured by the scientific method? I have always felt that God exists far beyond those bounds, so if some are able to grasp that mystery, then so be it.

It isn't about faith or God. Both internal faith and an external God are just paths meant to lead you toward being a decent person. It's really about you.

restlesssurfer97 said:Alright, let me take a step back here because maybe I’m just uneducated when it comes to religious stuff, but are you seriously suggesting that the Muslim faith or the Quran actually promotes killing people as a way to earn a happy afterlife?

There’s nothing weird about Abrahamic religions promoting ideological killing:

2 Kings 15:12-13
Then he made a covenant to serve the Lord, the God of his fathers, with all his heart and soul.
And whoever does not serve the Lord, the God of Israel, let them be lost, whether great or small, man or woman!
