Third tonsil enlargement in adults in Health ·
silvergardener472 said:I went to see my doctor today to get a new referral... she ended up giving me one for allergy testing instead. She's pretty sure it isn't my third tonsil, since she figured a specialist would have caught that during the last exam. I'm wondering if they can actually see that through testing, or if they need to use some kind of scope... she thinks I might just have chronic sinus inflammation. Is there even a way to treat that? Like surgery or something similar...

They're telling me the same thing—that it might be an allergy issue too... When my sinuses get really bad, they suggest I take Claritin or use that Tafen nasal spray (the steroid one)... 😲 Just some nasal spray and stuff like that...
I don't really buy into that, and I'm honestly not satisfied with such a half-baked solution... I've just been managing with over-the-counter stuff...

I don't have headaches either... It never even crossed my mind that sinus issues could be the cause...

I've been breathing through my mouth my entire life... 😳

Carol Scott98 said:From what I can tell, there isn't a dedicated thread about the Light Clinic. I asked about it over in the discussion on meds and the healthcare system, but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts here too, even if you aren't following those specific topics right now.

So, I was wondering how satisfied you all are with the services and pricing at the Light Clinic?
I'm seriously considering booking an appointment there, but I'm still a bit hesitant since my budget is pretty tight right now (I'm guessing that's true for a lot of us), and honestly, it feels like the local hospital doesn't take me seriously—they just check me out and send me home even when I know something is wrong.

Thanks in advance 😍

I've been really happy with them 👍
I've been going there since 2002, and they finally sorted out my constant eye inflammation issues...🙄
The doctors at the city hospital and the VA told me I was just overreacting 🥳

Oh, and I've been wearing contacts for more than half my life...

Oh, wow 🤣
I usually check the side effects for every medication I take, but this is the first time I've ever heard about that one 🙏

I took it myself, and honestly, I didn't feel a thing 🤷

silvergardener472 said:For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this constant feeling of something draining down my throat. My sinuses aren't actually an issue—no headaches or runny nose—but the drainage is causing terrible bad breath, and I'm at a loss... I was wondering if an enlarged adenoid could cause this in adults (I'm 20)? It really feels like mucus is pooling right behind my uvula before I swallow it... I saw an ENT today, but he seemed pretty dismissive about it. He noted a deviated septum but said there's no sinus issue, just some chronic inflammation... he prescribed some mouthwash and ten days of Septolete. Honestly, his explanation doesn't sit right with me. Does anyone know if adenoids can still be an issue in adults? I know kids deal with it all the time... any advice would be appreciated...

Do you have a specific diagnosis yet?
What did the doctor actually write down in your medical history?

I deal with that same sinus drainage too, but without any pain or anything... I was diagnosed with LPR!
And a deviated septum as well.
Chronic laryngitis, too.

The only thing is, I don't have the bad breath issue... could that maybe be coming from your teeth instead?
Swallowed gum? Now what? in Health ·
Have you ever actually swallowed just one single piece of gum?????

Gosh, I have—whether by accident or on purpose 🤦—definitely swallowed about 30 🤣
and people always used to scare me about getting appendicitis 🙄

like that ever happens...
Justin Jackson55 said:I just got my blood work back, and my glucose came in at 3.7, even though the normal range is 3.9 to 5.9 mmol/L.
I went in for the draw around 10:30 AM.
About an hour before that, I had a Starbucks with two packets of sugar (just standard stuff you get at a cafe), and my levels are still coming up low.

I'm wondering how much that cappuccino could have bumped my sugar up? Right before that, I was swimming for two hours from 7:00 to 9:00.

Why would you drink anything besides water before a blood test? 😕

You're supposed to be fasting, I don't know what else to tell you...

When I tried it, I was maybe 17, now I'm turning 21 in a few days and I'm still the same person. Never turned into a junkie or whatever, just wanted to know what it was like.

Well, good for you.

Noah Harris50 said:Fine, I’ve got a killer "cure" for chronic fatigue. If you want, try it for two months and see if it actually does anything.

A few years back, doctors told me I was allergic to gluten—basically, too much Wheat. Right around then, they slapped a chronic fatigue diagnosis on me, too. I had to figure out how to live gluten-free, and since I had zero clue what I was doing and it happened right around my birthday, my friends gifted me this book about living without gluten and sugar. It was packed with solid advice and recipes that skipped both. Once I started following those recipes religiously, here’s what went down:

1. I found a ton of great new meals and ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

2. I cut ALL sugar and all Wheat out of my diet.

3. I had more energy than I ever thought possible.

4. My belly fat vanished and I looked awesome.

But then life decided to throw some curveballs, bringing along a bit of depression, stress, and anxiety... So, I slid right back into my old habits. Reintroduced the Wheat, started eating stuff with sugar, quit yoga, stopped running. Now I'm right back where I started—in the gutter.

I'm going back at it. I'll check in in two months to let you know how it's going. You in? 🙂

I really think changing up your diet helped you a lot back then... I've been following this plan for a few weeks now, though I definitely slip up every couple of days 🙄

I have Hashimoto's, so I'm dealing with hypothyroidism and need to lose quite a bit of weight, especially since I've put on some pounds over the last two years because I couldn't even get allowed to exercise 😳

But we can do this! You start with your dietary changes, and I'll stick with mine (they're actually pretty similar), so let's just see where we end up 😉

So, I guess I'm not the only one dealing with eye twitching... 😬

@Noah Harris50, I'm feeling all those same symptoms you mentioned, except for having trouble falling asleep—though that's been happening more often lately!

For me, things really spiraled when I was stuck in a job I absolutely hated. But even now that I've moved on, the stress hasn't gone away because it mostly stems from family issues 🙄
that feel pretty much impossible to fix, and they're totally out of my control 🤷

On top of everything else, I've also been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, which just makes it worse since I barely have any energy or willpower left for anything 😳

Oh, and I just took a personality test 🙂 turns out I'm an ISTJ (pretty much spot on)

Just wait until they both start titrating, haha.

Oh, I've got that going on too 🥳

The funniest part is when my upper right and lower left eye both twitch ☕ at the exact same time 🙄

But I'm not even going to Google what it could mean, because I'll just end up worrying for no reason...
Cancer, aspartame, MSG... in Health ·
Since I’m strictly against that "famous American seasoning," I at least try to steer clear of glutamate... but honestly! I know that whenever I go out for lunch or dinner, all my efforts just go out the window... My mom's generation—well, basically everyone between 50 and 70—tends to throw things like Maggi seasoning on everything 🙄

Besides, you can find glutamate in almost any frozen meal or takeout food, it seems to me 🤔

Life has just been hitting me pretty hard lately, and a few major things have left me dealing with chronic stress for the last couple of years 🙄

Lately, my eyelid won't stop twitching, and honestly, it's driving me crazy 😠

I’m actually starting up Pilates again after a long break, so I'm really hoping it serves as a good way to let off some steam 😁

Nicole Sanchez66 said:Basically, I haven't been sleeping much because of college and everything else, so I've got dark circles under my eyes. But today, after an exhausting morning on top of zero sleep, I noticed this dark purple spot about 5.6 millimeters wide right under my eye on the lower lid. It doesn't hurt at all, but it's super noticeable.

Should I be worried? Does anyone know what this could be or if it stays forever? Or maybe if I just catch up on some sleep, it'll clear up? Could it just be a vein? Please help...

It sounds like some kind of bruise... it should fade in a few days, nothing too serious 😉

if it isn't gone in about a week, or if it doesn't at least start to shrink or fade, then you should check in with a doctor...

but honestly, I don't think you really need to worry 🙂
Itchy scalp help! in Health ·

Most likely... 😳

melloworca6 said:Why not just head over to a dermatologist?

It could totally be seborrhea.

Come on, melloworca, have you ever actually been to a dermatologist and told them your scalp is itchy? 🤣
I have. A few times. They don't even really look, they just tell me: go buy some Ketoconazole!
I've tried pretty much every shampoo out there... 🤷

@casualraven55, check out the thread on Seborrhea, there are some helpful tips in there...
Megan James2 said:My experience is a bit different from what’s been described here. It doesn't happen to me all that often—maybe three or four times in total. I don't really buy the whole "sleep paralysis" label because I am fully awake and my eyes are wide open. It usually happens when I sleep on my back. The best way to describe it is that I wake up feeling like I can't breathe. I open my eyes and see nothing but the darkness of my room; I don't have any of those hallucinations most people on this forum talk about. Instead, I feel this terrifying pressure on my chest, as if something incredibly heavy is crushing me, or like someone has grabbed me by the throat with everything they've got and is choking me. I try to fight back, but my body is completely paralyzed, with the sole exception of my eyes. I've tried screaming and calling out for help, but no sound comes out at all. I have to say, it's a truly horrific sensation. On two separate occasions, I genuinely thought I was finished—that this invisible force was going to suffocate me and I was actually going to die. The whole episode seems to last about a minute, and it ends when that massive pressure on my chest and the constriction around my neck suddenly lets go. Once it stops, I start gasping for air, breathing deeply and frantically into my lungs, because it honestly feels like I almost suffocated. As I catch my breath, the paralysis fades away. Like I mentioned, my eyes stay open the entire time, and I never see anything unusual in my bedroom, yet there is this overwhelming sense that some invisible, massive weight has sat on my chest and is strangling my neck. Does anyone else deal with this or something similar? I did some reading and thought this might be akin to sleep apnea, but I'm not entirely sure what we're dealing with here. Unlike most of you who report hearing buzzing or ringing, I don't hear anything during these episodes except for the sound of my own heart thumping violently...

You described what happened to me about ten years ago more accurately than anyone else...
😱

so please ignore the typos in the bolded parts (like the feel, the sention, etc. 😉

It happened to me seven or eight times in a single month before I finally figured out the pattern... I just have to make sure I don't fall asleep on my back —meaning, I can sleep on my back, but at the exact moment I'm drifting off ( 🤣 ), I need to be on my side or my stomach 🙂.

Anyway, it hasn't happened to me in years 🙏.

If this helped anyone, I'm glad...

Sandra Kelly3 said:Is she being discharged from the Mayo Clinic tomorrow? :S :S Does that mean they finally got rid of that gut bacteria?
After the surgery, nothing was coming out through the drain—so they had to open her up in Akron just to clean everything out properly.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with all this mental stress and the whole sepsis situation? Maybe the doctors will actually give us some clarity tomorrow... though I guess it’ll either be helpful info or absolutely nothing at all.

Look, there are some doctors you really have to push just to get an answer... I don't know who's going to head down to the hospital to check on Grandma, but please, find a doctor and ask them, for heaven's sake. You've got a voice😁
and I really hope she doesn't leave without her discharge papers... if she's at the infectious disease ward, she should get them immediately, those folks are usually pretty good about that!
I've been admitted twice myself and my mom once too, and honestly, everyone was so kind and willing to explain things, but you REALLY have to show that you care and stay involved😉

Write down everything you want to ask so you don't freeze up when you're actually there...

Let me know how it goes 😉

Hey 🙂
Is your grandma in the Mayo Clinic in Washington, D.C. now? If she is, then she’s definitely in good hands!

As for those indifferent "doctors" and "nurses" over in Topeka, you should really report them to the inspectors 😉 (I hope you have all the paperwork ready—make sure you made copies, hopefully nothing "accidentally" went missing)

Keeping my fingers crossed for your grandma, grandmas are the best! (And yours is still pretty young, too)...

I won't say anything about the diagnosis itself since I don't know enough about it, but hopefully someone will give you some real answers soon!!
