Richard Wilson4 said:American movies have leads who actually talk like real people and act like normal humans. They aren't over-the-top theater gangsters or cheap caricatures like we see back home...

Spot on. The dialogue and acting feel way more natural and relaxed, which gives everything an extra layer of realism. Probably explains why audiences gravitate toward those films more. Plus, they nail that laid-back humor—even when it gets dark. It just works. 👍

Excuse me, but I don't even know who’s writing this stuff. It sounds fake. Some sentences are just straight-up useless filler, making everything feel artificial even when they're stating the most obvious banalities imaginable. 😕
And people love to caricature Southern accents, pushing them way too far. It makes it look like Northerners are all sophisticated elites with perfect diction, while Southerners are just uneducated folks throwing around curses because they haven't cracked a book in decades. ☕

Bringing this topic back from the dead. This isn't just about how annoying and unwatchable American TV shows and movies have become. It’s also a failure of the acting academies. They clearly can't pick decent talent, and they barely even enroll anyone worth mentioning each year anyway.

First off, sorry if this gets long. 🙂 Second, I'm a total amateur here—just a viewer. I don't claim to know anything about getting into drama school. This is just my take on this whole "problem."

Basic rule: you have to separate stage actors from TV actors. They aren't the same thing. Sure, a theater actor might make it on screen, but that takes actual skill. Usually, though, those theater types stick out like a sore thumb on TV. They overact, their diction is weird, and they look totally fake.

Second thing—someone needs to realize that academy auditions aren't a fashion casting call. Not every actress needs to have a cute nose, perfect hair, long legs, and a tiny waist. Look, looks help sometimes, but ONLY if there's talent behind them. That’s clearly not happening based on the crap we see on screen lately. Most young actresses around here can't transform at all. They play the exact same character in every single show. It’s hard to explain, but they look fine, but they should be models instead of actors. One in ten actually has a hint of talent. I'm begging the drama academies to stop picking people based on looks and start looking for talent, because they've already missed a massive wave of gifted kids. 🙂

As for the guys, I don't even know what to say. I can't name a single one who has the potential of someone like a classic Hollywood legend or those old-school greats who were just raw, natural talent back in the day. 🙂 I honestly have no clue who's letting these guys into the academies or how they even graduate. And look, forgive me, but seeing guys like some of these modern leads is depressing. Their acting is terrible. Honestly, someone you'd pick up off the street would probably give a better performance. I just don't get who's choosing these people or handing out diplomas.

The saddest part? I'm convinced there are talented people in those schools we'll never hear from, while these mediocre faces are shoved down our throats on TV as "stars."

One last thing—shows like *Band of Brothers* or *The Wire* had production value we could be proud of. But when you look at the costume design and set dressing in some of our recent stuff, it's a joke. In some period pieces, they use stuff that doesn't even belong in that era, or a show meant to be set in the 90s looks like it's sliding into the 21st century with the clothes and everything else. 😕:
Who hired those costume designers? Where did they learn their craft if they don't know the absolute basics? And are the producers who hired them aware they're basically throwing money down the drain for zero results?

I'm ending this hoping things change. We have the talent, but everything in this country seems to be rotting. Our TV and film industry is still stuck at an amateur level, trying to pass itself off as high art. ☕
