Best budget laser printer for 200 pages per month? in Computer Peripherals ·
Frank Barnes said:Have you even heard of the term "firmware" before?

Why am I asking?

Because the exact same cartridges will work perfectly in an 8600, yet fail miserably in a 276—even though they both technically take HP 950 cartridges. Maybe they're from a different manufacturer entirely. But hey, if you have money to burn, feel free to start buying ink from every single supplier on the market just to build a massive spreadsheet to post here so we can all know which specific cartridge works with which specific printer. Just a heads-up: the delivery date matters too. Just because a certain brand's ink works today doesn't mean it'll work tomorrow—especially if you're using some sort of Cloud service or online diagnostic tools along with the latest drivers for this machine.

Or better yet, start hunting for compatible cartridges on eBay; maybe you'll strike gold once in a while. Though, you’ll still need to be careful about whether your printer is a US version, a Hong Kong, China version, or an EU/Eastern Europe firmware version.

And what do you honestly think a local shop owner is going to tell you when you ask if their cartridges will actually work on your specific printer?

That's why the smartest move is to grab an older, similar OfficeJet model that HP has basically abandoned. You'll know exactly how it behaves, and you can run it into the ground without any headaches.

So, I picked up an HP 8610 and it arrived today... Everything is working fine so far, and I'm happy with it. I'll check back in a month or two to let everyone know if it's holding up...

The 8600 model has been around for quite a few years now—you really ought to know its specs inside and out by this point—and honestly, it's basically identical to the 276dw...

You can pick up an 8600 for about $500.

The HP 251DW—an inkjet that actually keeps printing costs way lower than its laser counterparts😁

I’m trying to wrap my head around one thing: what is the actual downside to this printer when you compare it to a laser model in the same price bracket?
That 14-second wait for the first page to come out feels... well, a bit sluggish, doesn't it? 🤔
What are your thoughts?

The HP CP1025 is sitting at the exact same price point as the P1102—plus, you get color capability and 8MB of memory paired with what's listed as 128MB of flash...

So, looking at the big picture, is this actually the smarter move over the P1102? I mean, if we assume the black print quality is identical across both models—which, let's face it, they should be—is it worth it?

The 1102 runs on the 80A toner, whereas the 1025 uses the 126A

In other words—you just set the resolution to 600 x 600 DPI and call it a day. Which brings us right back to the point I made earlier.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Maybe you misunderstood my point... I'm NEVER looking to print actual photographs; I'm talking about documents that happen to be saved as JPEGs.

When I crank that setting up to 600x600, do you really think it won't slow things down—especially if I'm printing a handful of JPEGs that are around 10 MB each?

If the file size exceeds the printer's internal memory, does the computer handle the overflow, or does the printer just hang there and freeze?

Greetings,

How much of a headache is it going to be that my HP LaserJet P1102w only has 2MB of memory?

What happens if I try to print a 10MB file all at once? Every now and then, I find myself needing to print a photo—specifically, a document that was snapped with a camera rather than being properly scanned—in black and white... Just one of those files can easily hit the 2MB mark.
Since an image like that takes up roughly 500 times more space than a standard Word document, does it actually consume a similar amount of ink? I mean, maybe just a bit more due to the contrast, or is this whole approach completely inefficient from a cost perspective?

2. Regarding the wireless option—will everything run smoothly if I’m trying to print from the third floor to a printer on the ground floor, assuming both are on the same wireless network? (The signal reaches surprisingly far thanks to a range extender...)

Thanks,

Henry Bennett said:Honestly, from what I've seen, you shouldn't sweat it too much. I've had plenty of cases where things look stuck—I actually have one from back in early 2014 that's still showing as unprocessed—but if you check the ledger, everything was applied perfectly fine.
The main thing is just making sure you have a printed copy of the confirmation showing that it was successfully submitted. Personally, I always print out that receipt along with the actual return, then I just double-check the credits against my internal books and call it a day.

One time, an agent from the local tax office called me saying her system wasn't accepting a filing (even though mine looked good), but it turned out their entire network was just having a total meltdown. She called me back half a day later saying it was all sorted and she'd manually fixed the entry... meanwhile, on my end, the status was still showing as "in processing." So yeah, don't lose sleep over it...

Regards,

In my experience, the subscription status is constantly stuck on "pending"—meaning the form hasn't hit the ledger—even though the client has already paid the sales tax. It feels like a genuine issue to me.🤔

Hi there,

I just filed my first sales tax return for a new client, and everything looked perfectly fine during my initial review... yet here we are, two months later, and the filing is still just sitting there pending processing. I have absolutely no clue why it’s stuck in limbo like this.

Quick question: Is there any specific department or authority that can actually tell me what the error is so I can fix it and get this thing processed? Who am I even supposed to reach out to? I’ve tried calling the IRS, but they’re basically just giving me the runaround! Surely there’s a dedicated office meant to handle these kinds of hiccups, right?

Thanks so much in advance.👍

The P1102 uses the A85 toner, which somehow implies the printer itself isn't up to snuff...

http://www.hp-store.com/index.php/pri...rjet-pro-m201n - This one takes the A83, which seems identical to the previous one, yet it’s priced at double. What's the catch here?

http://www.hp-store.com/index.php/pri...ro-400-m401dne - This is the cheapest option I've stumbled upon that actually includes the A80 toner.

Is swapping out the toner on the A80 just as effortless as it is on the P1102?

I appreciate the incredibly thorough breakdown...

It looks like I’ll probably end up going with an HP printer...

Given that the P1102 is pretty much the budget entry-level option from HP, which model would you suggest if I wanted something more advanced and higher performing?

After that, I'd look at the HP LaserJet Pro

Refilling my own toner? Could someone walk me through how complicated this actually is—like, what’s the actual process for doing it myself?

Am I just buying some ink and topping things off?

Hi there,

I’ve been looking into the HP LaserJet Pro, but let's face it—that model has been around for at least 4 or 5 years now...
Is there anything more modern and reliable out there, or do you guys have some other suggestions based on what you've actually bought or received?

To give you an idea: I'm looking at roughly 200 pages a month, black and white only...
George Washington Square? George Washington's Plaza? What else is there?

Thanks
