Brain MRI - a few questions about clinics in Health ·
I’ll look into what you mentioned tomorrow. And yeah, I’ve got a whole list of people I need to call.
It’s not even about being cheap or trying to save a buck on my health—I just don't have the cash sitting around right now, and my credit isn't exactly stellar either. So, there's no way around it; I’m stuck waiting.
My neurologist actually sent me in because some old issues I had have been getting worse lately. Now my eye won't stop twitching—like, my eyelid has been spasming constantly for over 20 days straight.

And regarding that whole "centralized" thing? Believe me, it’s a joke. It’s anything but centralized. Every single hospital has its own weird policies, its own set of rules, and its own dedicated fax number. With some places, you can still manage to book an appointment over the phone, but with others, forget it. Then you've got the ones where you send a fax and might get a call back the next day, and then there are those that actually reply via fax—which makes zero sense since nobody uses faxes anymore. It’s just a mountain of nonsense. Honestly, the whole system feels like it was designed to kill people rather than help them. You have to go through this massive, exhausting drama just to land a simple appointment. At least, that’s how it’s worked for me.

Look, I’m not being lazy, for crying out loud. I'm asking questions. It's not like I'm just sitting around my house all day, staring at a screen and pinning all my hopes on some random thread on Reddit 🙄
And honestly? You didn't exactly make me feel better. I was over at Mercy Hospital for a scan at MIT and they told me everything looked fine too... 😢
Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

Honestly, same here... if I had the cash, I wouldn't even bother with the doctor route 😉 That’s just not an option for me. I seriously don't have the money to be dropping stacks on stuff like this.
So, what now? Just sit around and wait six months? Great.
But look, I was wondering—does anyone know if any private clinics take Medicare? Like, if you can actually use your Medicare card there so you aren't paying out of pocket. I know Medic is around... And if anyone has been through this, let me know if there's any way to dodge the usual massive wait times.

Hey there.

My neurologist just sent me off for a brain MRI, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle this. Does anyone have tips on where to get it done around New York City without dealing with insane wait times? I'm looking to skip the massive crowds if possible. Also, does anyone know which private clinics take Medicare? It would be great if I could just use my Medicare card to cover the scan instead of paying out of pocket.
Thanks!

I’ve done every test imaginable—EEG, EKG, electrolyte panels... They told me it’s psychosomatic. I thought, okay, fine, maybe it is stress, work, stuff like that... but these days, whenever they can't find an answer, they just blame it on your mental state.

You just have to learn how to manage it. Every morning I have a banana (for the potassium), and whenever I feel my pressure dropping (since apparently my blood sugar drops too), I keep chocolate or juice nearby—I try to think of pleasant things 😁 to calm myself down and stop the shaking. In the summer, I eat a bit more salty food. I’ve never tried the salt water thing; I’d much rather grab some feta cheese soaking in brine. My doctor suggested I move around more, so I signed up for aerobics, and I actually ended up getting in great shape along the way. 😉

Unknown wine is wonderful. 👍 But just one small glass a day. 😁

A little off-topic here, but this is the honest truth. And honestly? It’s starting to get on my nerves.
Based on these diagnoses, it feels like every second person walking into a clinic is dealing with nerve issues. Honestly, forget the whole diagnostic process—they don't even bother sending you to a specialist anymore. They just skip straight to the conclusion that everything you're feeling is rooted in your nervous system. I’ve had a massive pile of people already venting to me about this exact same thing...
A little salt water might kick in faster than caffeine... but honestly, that’s just putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound when you're dealing with this stuff.
Whether it's coffee, salt water, or even something sweet, it helps if these issues are rare—like, once every six months where you just feel a bit lightheaded and need a quick caffeine fix to steady yourself.
But if you're facing serious, chronic issues? You really need to see a doctor, get some actual testing done, and get prescribed something to keep your blood pressure stable. People always act like high blood pressure is the only thing to worry about, but that's a total misconception. Low blood pressure can be just as dangerous if you aren't managing it properly.
So, wait, aren't there actually medications for this kind of thing?
Man, they’re just making things unnecessarily complicated. I honestly don't get the point of all this right now. What happens to the elderly or people who don't even own a computer? Not everyone is tech-savvy or living their life through a screen. Sure, they say you can still Order in person, via fax, or email... but what about a 75-year-old grandma who doesn't even know what an email is and has nobody to help her? If she lives out in rural Nebraska and the nearest Mayo Clinic is hours away in the middle of nowhere, how is she supposed to Order?
Honestly, it’s not clear to me either what anyone is actually supposed to do to get an appointment. They haven't laid out any precise instructions or even made a formal announcement; they just vaguely mention that you can't use the phone anymore. It's pathetic, really. Just more headaches for everyone else...

Man, it’s enough to drive you insane. Things actually seemed to settle down for me this afternoon, but then tonight it all started up again... just won't let me get any decent sleep. If this doesn't chill out by Monday, I'm heading to my doctor to see what she has to say about it.

Thanks 🙂

Truth be told, the last couple of days have been an absolute gauntlet, though honestly, I’ve been stuck in this high-stress rut for a while now. So, I guess that explains it. It’s just... man, it really gets under my skin. I can’t get anything done when my eye starts doing that twitching thing. It's infuriating. Like, couldn't it just twitch in my leg or something? Why does it have to be right by the eye... just constant irritation.

Man, this is enough to drive anyone insane. It all started the other night. I woke up yesterday thinking everything was fine, but then by evening, the twitching kicked back in and now it just won't quit. It’s honestly driving me nuts—I can’t even get a decent night's sleep, let alone focus on anything at work. I'm totally lost on what to do here. Since it's Friday and heading into the weekend, my doctor's office is closed, and I feel like a total idiot if I roll up to an ER just for this. Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this or how I should handle it?

It’s clearly cervical brachial syndrome—that pain that starts at the neck vertebrae and shoots down into your arms. Good luck with the physical therapy!

Thanks, really appreciate it 🙂

Actually, since it's spreading toward my left arm, the shoulder and the area near my shoulder blade are killing me. Sometimes my head hurts too, and I even feel a bit unsteady. Every other test result came back normal, except for an old X-ray of my neck that showed early stages of osteochondrosis and a flattened cervical curve... but the newer scan doesn't mention the osteochondrosis anymore... honestly, who knows. Hopefully, these treatments actually do something...
Hey everyone, just got back from seeing my physiatrist, and he handed me this list of prescriptions/orders:

DDS paracervical
SG left shoulder-ache
MG for C-B

Does anyone actually know what this means? I’m trying to figure out what I’m walking into here. 🙂 I tried digging around online, but honestly, I didn't find anything helpful.
