Just wanted to check in. It’s almost been a month since my nose surgery, and honestly, that first month felt like an eternity. But if I'm being real, don't stress about how you look right after the procedure. I spent so much time worrying, but the swelling goes down surprisingly fast and things start looking much more natural sooner than you'd think. Personally, I'm thrilled. My nose actually fits my face now. I look brighter, more open—not exhausted. With my old nose, I always looked tired and sad (it was pretty long, and since my face is also long, it didn't help that the bones were crooked/deformed). Now? I'm beyond happy. There's still some swelling on the sides and at the bridge that needs to settle, but overall, I'm satisfied. So, for anyone getting ready for surgery: just know it takes time to get used to a new look. You're going to deal with swelling and a distorted appearance at first, but that's just part of the recovery process. You can't skip it. Just trust me—it passes, and you're left with a beautiful nose. 😍 Kisses and bye😍
Donna Bennett73 said:Look, I get it. I’m going through the exact same thing. Just had my checkup today, and a little bump popped up on the right side. My doctor said if it bothers me, he can just smooth it out in six months. It doesn't hurt and you can't even see it, you just feel it when you touch it. :/ If I'm already going back in for everything else, I might as well have him take care of that too.🙂 And by the way, the tip is still swollen. Doctor told me the swelling won't fully subside until the very end...🙂 So basically, I've got at least six months to a year left. Cheers to that...🙂)))))) But honestly, overall, I'm really happy with how it looks. Now I just need the patience to let everything settle into place...🙂
Did you just have it thinned out, or did you go shorter?🙂
Donna Bennett73 said:Haha, they told me I should have gone a bit lower, but three weeks is way too soon to tell... it takes months for everything to settle into place. Don't sweat it, things will balance out eventually.😉
Man, I really hope so. I know I need to be patient. My nasal passages feel congested too, and the areas on both sides still feel raw and tender. It all feels pretty recent. Fingers crossed everything turns out fine. How’s your nose looking? Are you happy with the result?
Hey everyone, just wanted to check in for a second... I’ve got a question for you all. Does the tip of the nose tend to drop slightly over time for everyone? It’s been three months since my surgery, and I still look a bit off—almost like my nose is a tiny bit too long. I’ve got that nagging feeling that I might end up looking like a pig or something. Honestly, I'm really hoping this is just a temporary phase. 😢
Susan Foster45 said:Amy Richardson86, you aren't alone. I used to be terrified of everyone around me... worried my six-month-old nephew might accidentally smack me, or that my husband might hit me in bed by mistake (haha... he isn't aggressive, he just tosses and turns while he sleeps 🙂), or even just end up hitting myself because I'm naturally clumsy. And I have actually managed to knock myself right in the nose more than once... quite hard, too. But it’s nothing serious; I haven't noticed any swelling or anything. But seriously, watch out for those hits. I know a girl who, right after having nose surgery, ended up at some dive bar where a fight broke out, and she took a hit so bad she had to go back under the knife. It’s not an urban legend, I swear, I know her personally 🙂.
Susan Foster45, please. It's a relief knowing I'm not the only one.🙂 I have this incredibly sweet eighteen-month-old son who actually clipped the tip of my nose today, and I've managed to do the same to myself a few times already. I honestly can't believe this keeps happening when I am being SO CAREFUL . Luckily, I haven't actually hit the bony part yet, so I'm clinging to that small mercy. But, dammit! Why me??!! It's really getting to me...
Hey everyone, back again. I have a question for those of you who’ve had rhinoplasty. Did any of you end up taking a hit to the nose right after the surgery? My nose looks fine—perfectly straight, so far—but I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally bumped the tip, specifically that fleshy part at the end. I'm just hoping I haven't caused any lasting damage.😢
ruggedpuma11 said:Bravo! 🙂 I've been following your posts with genuine anxiety, and now I can finally breathe easy. It's almost like you were talking about me. 😁
Could you explain lymphatic drainage to me, from a wellness perspective? 😉
Hey 🙂 Look, this famous lymphatic drainage thing is really just massaging your nose with continuous, gentle motions—starting from the tip and moving upward toward your forehead. That way, you're helping your nose clear out any buildup of lymph (which is basically just congestion), and you're also helping "shape" the nose. The key is to apply some kind of cream right before you start the massage. That's the whole secret. Hope that helps. 😉
Hey everyone! So, it’s day 10 post-op. I haven't had any facial swelling for two days now, and honestly, the swelling I did have cleared up incredibly fast. I'm really happy with how things are looking.😛
Sam Kim12 said:Doing some light facial lymphatic drainage😉
Lymphatic drainage is a total game changer!! Between using cold compresses on my face, doing constant lymphatic drainage on my face and nose (roughly every half hour), and sleeping propped up in a semi-seated position, the swelling has gone down significantly. I went to the grocery store for the first time since my surgery today, and nobody gave me a second look.😁 Yippeeeeee!!!
Susan Foster45 said:Yeah, sure... just wait until the bruising turns yellow and starts spreading out. (I think that’s a good sign, means things are healing), but it looks ridiculous.
I've already got them.
Anyone have some advice?🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 How do I get this facial swelling under control? When does it actually start to go down??? When am I going to look even remotely normal again???
Good morning, rhinoplasty nation.😉 I’m honestly just glad Mardi Gras is coming up soon. Since my face currently looks like a glazed donut, I should blend right in—no mask required.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey everyone, just checking in; So, I finally got the cast off my nose today. They’ve got me in those clear tapes until tomorrow to keep the swelling down... My first impression after seeing my face without the mold? Honestly, total shock. It was hard to wrap my head around because I looked completely different. It's tough adjusting to such a drastic change in your own reflection. Humans are weirdly complex. On one hand, we obsess over a flaw and desperately want to fix it—like my nose—but then once the change actually happens, it hits us harder than expected. Good grief, I spent my entire 40-minute drive home just thinking about how much concealer I'm going to need. I was that stunned.😂 Oh, yeah, there's still some minor swelling around my upper face, a little bit of bruising is visible, and I've definitely got that "weird eyes" syndrome going on too... but with enough makeup, I look fine. My mom says I look great (even if I am a bit swollen)😂 Honestly, her support means the world to me. Anyway... this surgery was one of those "do it before you hit thirty" decisions, and I truly don't regret stepping up to the plate. For anyone weighing the option of aesthetic rhinoplasty: go for it. But don't rush into it blindly. You're essentially altering your identity, so you need to be mentally mature and steady enough to handle the shift and actually be happy with the result. Just think it through carefully. Kisses, everyone😍
rustygardener172 said:Honestly, you won't even care what your nose looks like right after they take the cast off. You’re going to look weird. Swollen, wide, huge nostrils... just a mess. So forget those stories about people saying, "I took the mold off and my nose is perfect." One more thing... try not to stare at it too much. Trust me, you won't actually know what it looks like until about six months have passed. I know it seems like a lot, but the nose takes months to settle. My own nose—it's been over a year now—looks completely different than it did right after surgery, or even a month later... or even four months out. I've known girls who were thrilled at first, but as time went on, they just got more and more unhappy. The tip dropped too much, or bumps appeared once the swelling went down, and so on. Just be patient.
Thanks for the advice. I mean, obviously I'll look better than having a plastic mold stuck to my face😂. Really, my main concern is just making sure people aren't doing double-takes like, "WTF happened to her?" or something like that.🤣. And I probably won't look terrible either... Just kidding.😉
Rachel Lopez5, glad to hear the surgery went well for you. I’m getting my cast removed tomorrow, and honestly, the whole rhinoplasty journey hasn't been nearly as traumatic as I expected. Still, there's that underlying anxiety about whether I'll actually like how my nose looks once the mold is finally off.🙂 So, what was that first look in the mirror like for you all? Pure shock? Disbelief? Or did you just love it immediately? And how long did it take before you actually got used to your new face?
Susan Foster45 said:Besides heparin, here’s another tip for clearing up bruising faster... try tea tree oil balm. It’s incredible for all sorts of things, but for me, it pulled those bruises out in no time. Just apply it generously under your eyes and they disappear pretty quick.😉
Thanks for the tip.😍 My bruising was actually pretty minimal. Even my doctor was surprised by how little swelling I had. Most of those tiny marks are already gone, so... I guess I just got lucky. By the way, they removed my tampons this morning and it didn't hurt at all. The doctor was extremely careful. No nosebleeds or anything like that either... I'm just a little nervous about what everything will look like once the mold comes off.🙂
Also, I want to thank larlar. The posts and photos she sent over really helped me make my decision to go with Bastaić. Thanks to everyone else who was kind enough to send their pictures too—you guys are the best.😍
Hey everyone, just thought I’d jump in and share my experience here... maybe it’ll help someone out.🙂 Three days ago, I had septorhinoplasty done by Dr. Bastaić. The nasal packing comes out tomorrow, and then on Friday, the splint comes off. So, yeah... I’m hoping I won't be absolutely floored by how my nose looks once the mold is gone, though I'm mentally prepared for the shock either way. Time will tell😉 As for the surgeon, he’s great—really personable, easy to talk to, and you feel like you're in good hands. Honestly, I didn't feel any pain after the surgery. Now I'm just crossing my fingers for a good result and hoping there aren't any disappointments. By the way, regarding the bruising—I think people overreact to it. It clears up pretty fast, especially if you stay on top of the heparin cream. That's all for now. Later.
stormycyclist9 said:Heh, I got the same vibe from the kid—like he didn't care at all. But I’d already scheduled the surgery via email, so I figured nothing would come of it. Still, since I was already in NYC, there was no turning back. Anyway, thank God, everything turned out great. Actually, better than expected. 🙂 How on earth did you think he was trying to scam you out of the cash?
He was also pushing me to drop a down payment right then and there. He does it so slick and practiced that you almost feel like you don't have a choice. I didn't fall for it, though. I don't get why he does it. He has to know he's just bullying people. 🤷
Hey everyone, sorry for the spamming (all caps) in my last post. I got a little mixed up. 😂. Still pretty new to this forum. 😉
Kimberly Thompson75 said:Just figured I'd jump in here and share my experience after the surgery. Had my nose surgery yesterday. Honestly, I didn't feel much pain except right before bed, but once I popped some Advil, I was good to go. It's day two now. A little swollen, but I'm functioning fine. It’s just a bit annoying not being able to breathe through my nose or smell anything.😁 I finally pulled the trigger on nose surgery. Honestly, everyone told me my nose looked perfectly fine, but I hated it, so I decided to do something about it. I went on a hunt for a surgeon who actually knew what they were doing. I did consultations with Dr. Smith, then Dr. Jones, and eventually landed with Dr. Brown. In the end, Dr. Brown was the only one who made me feel truly confident. He gave me exactly the results I was looking for, and I couldn't be happier. His entire team is fantastic, too. One thing I can’t stand is paying a fortune only to deal with someone arrogant who thinks they're God's gift to medicine. That was my experience with Smith. Not only was he stuck-up, but he even tried to lowball me on the pricing. I walked out of his office immediately.😁
Congrats, Kimberly Thompson75. I'm positive your new nose is going to look perfect. I'm also gearing up for nose surgery in about two weeks. It’s been a long, exhausting road—mostly for my twin sister, though.😂Just some thoughts. I've decided to get it done over at Smith's. Thanks to everyone who sent over photos of their setups. You guys really helped me out.😍 Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope it’s a quick one.🙂
Rachel Rivera19 said:Hey everyone... I need some info from anyone who’s had purely cosmetic surgery done at public hospitals (like Mayo Clinic or Mount Sinai). What’s the actual procedure? Do I book directly through a surgeon at the hospital, or do I see my own doctor first to get a referral sent over there? I'm lost. I've read everything online and still have no idea what to say... I have a lot to say about this...😁 Anyway, I want to know the costs at public hospitals and how happy people actually are with the results😁. I saw some girl on a site complaining that "regular plastic surgeons" get annoyed when people try to cut the line at the hospital. Look... honestly, if you have money to throw around, go for it. I don't have a stash of cash hidden under my mattress to drop a few thousand dollars all at once... plus all the appointments and consultations. Whatever. If you can't breathe, I get it. I've been miserable my whole life too. But I'm not letting you skip ahead of me in the hospital queue just because. I hope your heart stays in the right place. It's great to hear about everyone who had successful surgeries and ended up happy🙂
Hi🙂 We're in the same boat. I'm planning a nose job too—both functional and cosmetic since mine is crooked. After reading these threads, I've realized private clinics aren't necessarily any better at rhinoplasty than the doctors working in public hospitals. Also, if I may suggest, we should start a new thread dedicated solely to people sharing their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with rhinoplasty specifically one year after the surgery. That's when the real results show up. Most of these discussions don't give us the actual facts we really need.... 😕
So, checking in again... Basically, I'm wondering how much truth there is to the idea that surgeons at public hospitals make more mistakes with the aesthetic side of rhinoplasty compared to private practice doctors. I’m torn on whether I should go private or if a surgeon working at a public hospital can deliver the exact same quality. Please, let me know what your experiences have been with this.😍
