Thanks! However, I was really hoping to get some insight from someone here—maybe an actual anesthesiologist or just someone who’s been through something similar. One doctor at the hospital told me they don't perform surgeries if there's an active allergy, but then I heard a private practice would go ahead with it. I'm planning to have this procedure done privately, so I'm looking for general opinions rather than advice regarding my specific doctors. To give you some context: I've had an allergy for a year now, but we haven't identified the trigger yet. As long as I take antihistamines, I'm fine, but once I stop, the hives come back, and occasionally I get some swelling in my eyes or lips. My breathing is perfectly normal and my tests are clear. I've been putting this surgery off for a year because of this. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Hi everyone. I had general anesthesia about 7 or 8 years ago and everything went fine, but for the past year, I’ve been dealing with hives and can't figure out the cause. If I take an antihistamine, I'm mostly okay, though a few spots might pop up. However, if I skip my medication, I break out in a massive rash and sometimes experience swelling. I've been planning a procedure for a while now, but I keep postponing it because of this allergy, even though it could last for years. Is it safe to undergo the procedure while on antihistamines (or if they add something extra to the anesthesia for safety)? Has anyone dealt with this before?
