That’s exactly what they’re aiming for.🤷 With them, we'll finally see whether this KERS setup turns out to be a massive advantage or a total liability. If it works, they'll dominate the field; if it fails, General Motors is going to have a very difficult season on their hands.☕

Bosko Budimir Monday, March 2009

Just one week before the new Formula 1 season kicks off, Bernie Ecclestone—who seems to be hogging more media coverage than every other athlete combined lately—claimed that McLaren hasn't shown its true strength yet. He suggested they were intentionally dragging their feet during pre-season testing just to stay under the radar.

Recently, executives from both McLaren and Mercedes admitted that the MP4-24 hasn't quite hit the benchmarks they set for this stage, openly acknowledging that the car is currently lagging behind the competition. It feels like McLaren's PR machine is doing the same thing, feeding the public and fans a steady diet of low expectations to soften the blow if the season starts on a rocky note.

However, when reporters from The New York Times asked Ecclestone if McLaren was actually in trouble, his response was quite different: "Not at all. I suspect you'll find them to be very competitive once we get to Los Angeles."

"Let's put it this way: they simply haven't had any reason to show how fast they can really go," he added.

It looks like the opening weekend might be overshadowed by the ongoing controversy regarding the diffusers, a debate that's been simmering since the start of pre-season testing. Ecclestone has already hinted that he’ll call out whoever wins if they used illegal parts, and he even remarked this weekend that one of the three teams using those controversial diffusers is poised for massive success at the Australian Grand Prix.

"Jenson Button has proven he has the pace, and there's no reason he won't be right where we expect him to be. He's been frustrated, but that ends now," Bernie noted.

I hope he's right about McLaren.👍

What I don't understand, though... if General Motors, Brawn, and Williams are running illegal diffusers, why isn't this settled right now? Why wait until the first race? In my view, it wouldn't be right to let someone take a win only to strip it away with a penalty later.🤷

That just wouldn't be fair.☕
I think you're missing my point here.🤷

What I was actually asking was whether a team could show up in the USA and run some practice sessions before the official sessions start? That's what I meant by those results🤷—if that’s even an option at all.☕
yes☕
Does anyone happen to know when we might see the first training results from the USA? I'm really hoping we get some insight before Thursday arrives.

🤣🤣🤣I have to disagree with that sentiment entirely.🙂 Just someone from the crowd.☕
just some guy☕
No☕
I really messed this one up 🤷 I honestly have no idea how I managed to pull that off 😁
darkmarlin16 said:Look, 1 is totally possible—actually, it’s looking pretty damn likely—you just forgot we've got Picquet on the roster😠😢☕

for Picquet to pull off a win with a full lap lead🤷

I don't see that happening at all.🧐 🙂
I’ve always believed that true mastery requires patience, but lately, I’ve been finding myself questioning whether we overcomplicate the simple joys of life. It reminds me of a few years back when I was first getting into high-end audio equipment; I spent months obsessing over cable shielding and signal paths, only to realize that a decent pair of speakers and a bit of room treatment made all the difference. We often get lost in the weeds of technical specifications, forgetting that the ultimate goal is simply the experience itself. I noticed a comment from Morgan Murphy7 recently regarding the latest software updates, and while I understand the frustration with the interface changes, I can't help but feel we should embrace the evolution. Change is rarely comfortable, but it is almost always necessary for progress. As much as I enjoy the nostalgia of older systems, staying stagnant isn't an option if we want to keep pace with the industry. It’s a delicate balance to strike—respecting the heritage of what came before while remaining open to the innovations of tomorrow. I’d be curious to hear how others are navigating this shift. Are you holding onto your legacy gear, or are you ready to dive into the next generation? kaže:
I don't see much of an issue here. Massa is a high-caliber driver, and Ferrari currently has the best car on the grid. ☕

Wait, he actually pulled off an entire lap? I find that hard to believe.☕

When it comes to Chuck Norris, anything is possible.🤣🤣

Maybe one or two Fords 🙏

As for me, I’m actually sitting here expecting the unexpected.☕
Raymond Ortiz89 said:I’m honestly expecting Massa to leave the rest of the field trailing at least a full lap behind him. 😬

That's a bit optimistic, don't you think?😉

Alright, here are my race predictions☕

2009 Australian Grand Prix winner: Sebastian Vettel 👋☕

Qualifying results:

1. Webber
2. Vettel
3. Rubens
4. Button
5. Rosberg
6. Trulli
7. Alonso
8. Nakajima
9. Nelson Piquet
10. David Coulthard😲🤣😂 No clue why, but let's see if he pulls it off 😬

I am not particularly fond of this order.🤷Something feels off to me here.☕

I honestly can't wrap my head around anyone thinking the McLaren looks better than the Ferrari. To me, both the Ferrari and the Red Bull are just stunning pieces of engineering.

Oh, you absolutely can.🤷 Most people in this community actually agree that the McLaren is much more attractive than the Ferrari.😉

Jason Cruz3 said:Hello, everyone.

I haven't really posted much here until now, but I felt a strong urge to weigh in on the new car designs. To be perfectly honest, the new aesthetics remind me quite a bit of the cars from the 90s, and I simply can't bring myself to like them—they feel far too stripped down. That rear wing is a disaster; it looks positioned way too high, making the entire car look incredibly asymmetrical.

Even though I am a die-hard Ferrari fan, I have to admit (as much as it pains me to say it) that the new McLaren looks better than anything else on the grid. It’s going to take us all quite a while to get used to these new silhouettes.

I also want to emphasize that, in my view, aesthetics are vital when it comes to racing cars. Much like with consumer cars or even motorcycles, I believe visual appeal matters immensely in Formula 1—and I mention that specifically because I recall one member on this forum arguing that looks aren't actually that important for a race car.

You have great taste.☕

The immediate issue has been cleared up, but don't think for a second that we're over the hump. There is still a mountain of work ahead of us. Given how quickly we've been iterating on the car's performance lately... honestly, it’s a massive 🙏

.

We aren't even close to being finished. Sure, we've finally caught up to the pack, but catching up isn't the goal—surpassing them is. We need to stay aggressive. If we want to truly dominate, we have to build a machine that leaves the rest of the field in the dust, no matter which track we're running on.🤣🤣🤣
